Got it on sale at $130, which is worth it. IMO, MSRP is a little high for its features and sound quality.

I knew that Yamaha would be good, but this exceeded my expectations. Coupled with a sound processor this is the kind of sound I would expect to pay more for. I am using it for my PC having finally given up on my fifteen year old Philips speakers that had begun to hum and buzz quite loudly. It was a doddle to set up and has the Bluetooth bonus that I can stream from my phone when I don't need the PC on. Build quality is excellent right down to the tidy remote. After fifteen years I was able to enjoy bass again, it being sometime since I had a hifi setup. This fulfills that and the bass is surprisingly punchy and has room for more which is great as you don't need a seperate woofer. Vocals are also very clear and expressive. All in all I am very happy with this soundbar.

Bought this soundbar to enhance the sound from my Samsung QLED TV and I've not been disappointed. I was initially attracted by its small size, as it fits between my TV's support legs, and reading other positive reviews. I also had a recommendation from my son who had bought one for my grandson's bedroom TV. The improvement in speech clarity is immediately obvious but it also performs well in other areas such as enhanced bass and projection of sound around the room. I can connect my Alexa Echo via Bluetooth and control it from a smartphone app which is particularly useful as it shows a numericalvolume level which the TV display doesn't. Considering its size, this soundbar punches well above its weight.

Compact size but BIG sound

This Yamaha SR-C20A is a compact sound bar, best suited for smaller setups but also sounds great in an open area. Living in an apartment size matters! At 23" long, 3-1/2" wide, & 2' tall, it fits onto mosts desks & entertainment centers of with ease. It's for sure a space saver. Its appearance of a full wraparound speaker mesh looks great. It comes with a remote that works well to control the soundbar and its features. The remote easily identifies the sound bars presets. Its good for TV shows, sports, etc. Movie- This mode further widens the sound stage for a more theatrical sound. Game- This is the widest sound stage & the effect leads to a more immersive experience. The different modes give an enjoyable experience for any type of content. There's also a Clear Voice mode which emphasizes the frequencies of human speech that is typically good for TV shows, podcasts & news. It definitely enhances dialogue. All of the other frequencies are still very present & maintain clarity without compromise. There's also the Bass Extension mode that accentuates the bass response without bleeding into the midrange. The sound bar utilizes a series of 5 LED lights at the front of the sound bar to visually display which connections & sources are hooked up, as well as volume & subwoofer level increases & decreases. The lights turn off after a brief period of time so you won't have LED lights glaring. It's super easy to setup. I used the included digital optical cable (the only cable that is included) to connect the soundbar to my TV. I just plugged in the optical cable & the power cable and it worked. I didn't have to do anything extra at all. It also supports HDMI or AUX connection if you want to go another route or don't have the option for the optical cable. I love its ability to connect using Bluetooth with the ease of a button. It has a clean stream between my iPhone and the soundbar. This isn't a true surround sound system, but does a great job acting like it. I'd definitely recommend for someone needing a smaller bar with a big sound. It definitely delivers a large sound considering its size. The only downside is that there's no DTS Virtual:X sound; which isn't what you'd buy this particular model for anyway.

Good performance in a small package

I bought this Yamaha soundbar a few weeks ago, having done a fair bit of online research. I was looking for a soundbar that wasn’t too obtrusive, partly due to aesthetics and partly because the feet on my 49” Sony Android TV angle outwards so a longer bar would need to be placed much further forward (ie in front of the feet rather than between them. From the reviews I read, at approx 60cm wide, it was a straight choice between the Yamaha at £179 or the new Sonos beam at £449 and as I don’t want to stream music through this, I couldn’t justify an additional £270.Anyway, after a simple set-up using a spare HDMI cable and the ARC port on my TV, I noticed the difference immediately. I tried it out with Cloverfield on the various settings and was very impressed. This is not like being in the cinema but is a huge step up from the inbuilt TV speakers and the sound now feels part of the immersive experience rather than just something ’there’, especially when cranking up the subwoofer a little. It definitely adds a lot more to watching TV.I only use the standard or movie settings as I don’t play games or listen to music through this. With the ARC connection I can use the Yamaha remote, my Sony or Sky remotes or the excellent Yamaha app I downloaded. All in all, this is a great piece of kit for the money and as ever, the service from Richer Sounds (Telesales in this case) was first rate.

No More Subtitles
8 April 2023

I didn't purchase this sound bar to get more volume or louder base. I bought it for one purpose and that was to be able to understand what people were saying and not have a separate subwoofer. Yamaha offers a Clear Voice setting and many people had mentioned this in there reviews. Plain and simple it makes understanding dialogue much better. Is it perfect,no. We have had it about a month now and haven't had to put up Sub Titles. We actually ended up ordering the larger Yamaha with Alexa for another TV. So now we have 2 Yamaha sound bars. On a side note I like the Yamaha App for the smaller one better. Especially for the volume settings as they are numbered in increments so it's easy to tell what volume setting you like the best.

Rich, fantastic sound for home cinema
23 December 2021

I did a lot of research before buying this soundbar, and many reviews linger on the fact that this Yamaha is built for small rooms, bedrooms anddesktops. And while this may be true, simply putting this outstanding soundbar into that budget desktop category is a complete disservice to how brilliant it really is.As a film critic, I've been wanting a home cinema set up for a while. I cannot afford true surround sound like a Sonos beam or alternative, or even a large soundbar over 90cm, but I needed something that has a little oomph, I wanted a taste of the cinema experience at home. You will get that with this soundbar.I have yet to turn the volume past the halfway mark, and even at 25/50 the sound is pretty exceptional. You will get that with this soundbar.I have yet to turn the volume past the halfway mark, and even at 25/50 the sound is pretty exceptional. For reference I also have the sub woofer at 3/5, which is more than adequate and better than reviews had led me to believe. It doesn't shake walls, but you definitely feel the rumble and weight of the right film. And that last point is really where I think a lot of misconceptions about soundbars and this soundbar in particular comes from. There's just so much variation in sound quality from platform to platform, streaming to disc. As a general rule, a blu ray disc will usually sound incredible on this soundbar.Streaming is still impressive, but there are variations. For instance, Netflix is louder than Amazon Prime, and even then it depends on the show or film in question. I have streamed The Witcher and A Quiet Place 2 recently. On the film front, it needed pumping up a little on Amazon, but once done I was incredibly pleased with how it sounded, especially since the whole film relies on silence and bangs. Put it this way, I didn't miss not catching it at the cinema. The Witcher fared better at less volume, and this time there was a sense of surround sound, I was hearing sounds on the wall to my right, which was a delightful suprise really. The only other occasion I gained a sense of full surround sound was interestingly with the animation Klaus on Netflix, which gave both width and height, and I was hearing the buzz of digital insects behind my head.Other films tested when the soundbar arrived were The Force Awakens and Tenet on blu ray (Tenet still sounded muffled on a dialogue front, even with clear voice -- a feature that is otherwise excellent on everything I've watched, I never turn it off -- but the soundtrack really flies at you on the Yamaha, I was impressed and slightly fearful of upsetting neighbours). The Force Awakens, in my opinion, was overhwelming in the best sense, having come from TV speakers. If you meet the latter, this soundbar is only going to impress. The remote control is okay, but outmatched in every aspect by the amazing phone app which makes controlling the soundbar so easy. I only use the app, it's so much clearer to fiddle with settings there. Bluetooth set up was breeze. YouTube sounds surprisingly great if you get lucky with the file quality. For this, I put on Mad About You by Hooverphonics. I couldn't believe how good it sounded over Bluetooth.I have also had no issues whatsoever with sound and image synch. But the real treat of this soundbar is the ability to turn off its display lights when watching something. I cannot tell you how much this makes me happy. The soundbar blends into the room, I never notice it. And not having the display lit up is never a problem because you can just see what's going on in the app.I would recommend this soundbar to absolutely anybody. My living room is small to medium. My Tele is 43 inches. As of yet, nothing I've watched has made me wish I was hearing it at the cinema. That's the true measure of how good this Yamaha sounds. It's warm, rich and full.

Very happy with this soundbar
29 December 2021

I've been thinking about getting a soundbar for a while, but have been put off by their size. I have a 32-inch TV on a table that's only 36 inches long, so can't use many of the available bars that are longer than both the TV and the table. When I came across this Yamaha in an online review I had to check it out. Once again, B & H came through for me. Ordering was easy, I received it quickly, and set-up was a breeze with my Samsung TV. Most importantly, the sound is wonderful. The integrated subwoofer handles bass very well, so that Bach's D minor organ tocata & fugue sounds like it's being played live. Bass-treble balance is also excellent. Each part in a choir can be differentiated and the dynamic range is accurate. Bass-treble balance is also excellent. Each part in a choir can be differentiated and the dynamic range is accurate. One minor issue, not the fault of the soundbar, is that when the input sound from a TV show or YouTube or other video is sub-par, the output is as well. But the bar is accurately reproducting what it's receiving, so the problem lies with the input source. I remedy the situation by switching from surround sound (standard mode) to stereo mode. Except for that quibble, great value for the cost.

Well Rounded; Great price. Highly recommend.

Awesome soundbar at a great price. We got this to connect with our new LG A1 ThinQ and the combo of these two is exceptional. This soundbar adds a depth of clarity and quality to any movie, show, music, etc. The subwoofer in it is not going to rattle your house if that is what you are looking for, but, for a well rounded movie night, gaming, or music quality sound set up, this is it and provides capable audio. I have had zero issues thus far with any crackling, popping, or poor sound issues. Connection set up is very easy and the remote is intuitive with all the buttons you need and none that you don’t. The only thing I have noticed is the “stereo” and the “game” modes sound identical. It’s not a bad thing per se, but there is no audible difference to me in the two ... MoreAwesome soundbar at a great price. We got this to connect with our new LG A1 ThinQ and the combo of these two is exceptional. The Bluetooth function works wonderful and connects to our other devices seamlessly and we often use this as a Bluetooth speaker for the home whenever we are relaxing around the home.If you are familiar with Yamaha quality then this will be as you expect. If you aren’t familiar with it, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Yamaha SR-C20ABL Sound Bar review
19 November 2021

This is my first soundbar purchase, it offers pretty decent audio and features for a compact size. I bought this to enhance movie watching experience as the TV speakers are just fine but don't deliver. The soundbar has good volume and bass (high, mid, and low), the build is good, and feel the price was just right. I used the optical cable to connect it to the TV and felt the setup was easy enough for most. It took a few tries to figure out the correct phone app to use the phone as a controller rather than the one supplied, I was using the wrong one. I found it on the app store by searching "Sound Bar Remote", 2nd result from the top of my search. The app gives greater assurance over the controls. Overall, it's a good product. I found it on the app store by searching "Sound Bar Remote", 2nd result from the top of my search. The app gives greater assurance over the controls. Overall, it's a good product. I've used Yamaha audio components in the past, they've been around and are trusted for audio devices. Would I recommend it to a friend? sure. Does it fulfill my needs for enhanced sound rather than using the TV speakers? Yes, it's much better. Is it surround sound like a movie experience? No, don't kid yourself. One would need to add additional speakers for that. One thing Yamaha could improve on is the remote, the keys are not backlit and of course difficult to see if one is watching a movie in the dark, maybe this has already been addressed with newer or higher-priced units. That's my review, hope this is useful for someone and if you buy one hopefully you'll enjoy it.
