This Yamaha is very nice. I like it a lot and it looks rather nice. I bought the Navy Blue model. The neck and body is made out of spruce and it looks very nice with the blue varnish. It sounds rather nice, but it can't beat a normal acoustic violin at all. It's rather easy to play and it's not entirely silent. It's quiet, but not "Silent," if that makes any sense. I would describe it quieter than a practice-muted acoustic, but loud enough to actually practice without disturbing anyone. The lower tones sound more muted than the higher tones. It's a nice sound, but I wish it sounded just a little more acoustic. I recommend this for those who are just getting started with playing an electric violin, but if you are looking for an upgrade you should expect to pay a bit ... MoreThis Yamaha is very nice. It only has 3 reverb settings, a normal setting, and an analog volume knob. You can use a 1/4" instrument cable to hook it up to a amp or PA system. It has an aux input and a headphone jack with adjustable aux input volume. Great for playing along to other music.I like it a lot, but in the future I plan on buying a nicer electric violin when I get better at the violin.

Great product ...... but as one of the top of the range instruments i thought the chinrest and tailpiece could have been customizable at least and have the audio plug into the body. It needs an on off switch instead having to take the batteries out and the bridge savings needed correcting...but still enjoyable to play.

Yamaha SV 250 is a good violin. It is lightweight since the electronics were moved out from the instrument. The included control box gives the player pre-amplification and freedom to control the warm or bright sound desired. The control box can be worn on the belt of the player or be placed on the floor.Yamaha SV 250 though is not an "overnight to learn and get used to" instrument. The control box, if used without much research and trial, can give not so good sound. So once you mastered this instrument, make sure you either remember the settings or write it on a paper and put that in your violin case for quick reference. The tailpiece and the bridge are not replaceable. My biggest question is the following yamahas SV250/255, YSV and YEVhave this wooden bridge ... MoreYamaha SV 250 is a good violin. Once that happens, can the bridge be still repaired? I leave that to the experts for answer. For now I covered the grooves for strings using sheep skin for violin bridge.

The Yamaha SV250 and 255 have pickups both in the bridge and body. With a control knob to blend the 2 to your taste. The body pickup gives a great acoustic sound while the bridge pickup moves more towards the electric sounds. having this sort of control makes this violin one of a kind. Also has the Yamaha quality in manufacture and looks. Great instrument. Also very lite just like an acoustic violin.
Awesome violin, good pickup, and very light.
I got this violin and it has met every expectation and exceeded a lot. It's great for practice and even better when you perform with it.
Its exactly what Im looking for. Ive played the violin for over 25 years. I have to say, the violin makes me fall in love with music again.
This violin came exactly as described and the packing was fantastic!
I love using this interchangeably with my regular violin. It's very comfortable and light [obviously!], and I love the effects when listening with headphones. It's not completely cilent outside the headphones, but enough for me to play at 1 am without bothering others. My favorite part is the ability to plug it in with my computer or Zune and play along with other recorded music.
excellent product as advertised!
