Yamaha has put some really cool features in this mixer. One of the coolest is the ability to dial up what kind of mics and equipment you have and the mixer will setup an automatic profile for you to get the best sound possible. You'll also find great FX built in from the SPX line of rack mount FX units. This is a real hands on product review from Ken @ Sam Ash Buffalo Grove

The Yamaha TF5 is laid out beautifully for even first-time digital console users. Well built construction with a user-friendly interface. Great sound quality for entry-level digital console. One-Knob feature is great for beginners.

I have been using the TF5 for years now, and I have realized that it is good, not great mixer. It is a mixer that Yamaha has not fully invested in. It is probably 70% on the way to being a great mixer. I love the user interface of the mixer; I found it easy to use and easy to set up. The response from the motorized faders and metering are great. Also the warmth of the pre-amps are great. My problems with the mixer start with the USB audio. With PC computers, the board only exports 2 channels of audio, unless you use ASIO for 34 channels of audio (which is a problem if you are using another device (i.e. computer speakers) for playback. The Steinberg software for the TF mixer is extremely limited, with no way to adjust or change the 2 channel to 34 channels, nor there is no way to troubleshoot from the computer. Especially with these days of DAW mixing from an mixer, Yamaha needs to get with program. My second issue with the board is input-outputs of the mixer. If you adding a stage box to the mixer, you are only limited to 40 channels of audio as inputs. It would have made more sense to make it 48 channels or even 64 channels since the mixer, more than computing power and faders to handle it. It kinda short change the ability of the mixer. With the output having 16 output, it make no sense that you are only allowed to 8 mono aux and the only aux HAS to be stereo, with no option to adjust it to what you want, whether it is all 16 channels to be stereo or 16 channels of mono mixes. I bought the mixer with expectation that I can get 16 mono mixes (I am sure others did based of the mixers' advertising), but apparently you can only get 8 mono mixers. Yamaha needs to take these limits off the mixer. An limit with mixer is the band eq. You are only limited to adjust 10 bands of the 32 bands. Why? Yamaha should allow users to adjust all bands, like a regular band eq. The Yamaha also needs add more effects and add mastering plug-ins. With the mixer, you are not allow to add individual plug-in to each channel; you can only two main effects and control the levels of the effects. Also there is no effects emulated (i.e maximizer or De-Esser, just static effects made by Yamaha such as reverbs. You would expect to do more with the effects as the basics of any digital console.Lastly, Yamaha needs to come up with a (Behringer P16m style) personal mixer to complement the TF mixer. Musicians and Singers who I've mixed for, most of them all asked for a personal mixer for them. Using the My Monitor Mix App is not practical for live production and performances of any kind. The app is more geared for rehearsals. Also, having personal mixes with an external personal monitoring option, eats up the user's outputs easily. A personal mixer similar to the P16m, Midas DP48, Allen and Heath ME-1, etc., would be a necessary accessory to work with TF mixers. The mixer is good, but it needs much work. Yamaha needs to review the features from the competition (i.e X32, M32, Wing, QU16, SQ5), and try to surpass them, but it is currently in the middle of the pack. I would recommend X32 if do not want the limits of the TF. Again, TF has one of the best user interface I've used.

Awesome sounding Digital Mixer by Yamaha!!Easy to use great for churches, bands and production.Comes with 33 motorized faders and 48 input mixing channels along with 20 Aux buses. Full color touch screen for recalling presets and scenes. It also Includes Steinberg's Cubase AI DAW application and works great with your Idevices."This is a real hands on product review from Billy@ Sam Ash Orlando"
We have a 29 input rock band with numerous singers. The full drum kit, 2 guitarists, horns, basses, and keys. The unit works great with both an analog snake or Dante boxes on stage. All Dante programming must be done on Dante controller but that is not an issue. Unit is super reliable and sounds great every time. Wonderful Yamaha preamps do not flavor the sound. We have a “sound guy” that works with us but he is not an A1 by any means and is quite new. The layout and operation of the unit has allowed him to learn without huge fits of frustration and mix consistently good shows. There are some features that an experienced operator may find strange but it works great. If you are transitioning from analog to digital this makes sense. Great motorized faders, love the touch screen, 32 channels of amazingness! The preamps really added a great color to my overall mix (especially the vocals) and I am cutting through better now then ever before. IF you are in need of a 32 channel mixer with motorized faders and touch screen capabilities you can do no better then the TF5!This is a real hands on product review from Jared @ Sam Ash Canoga Park.
The Yamaha TF5 32 Channel Digital Mixer is one of the best digital mixers in the market right now. This mixer has everything you would need for any recordings or live show, including presets for most major microphones brands. "This is a real hands on product review from Cristian@ Sam Ash Orlando"
Very good for the price. This mixer is very versatile and offers great options. Full color touch screen for recalling presets and scenes. It also Includes Steinberg's Cubase AI DAW application and works great with your Idevices."This is a real hands on product review from Andrew @ Sam Ash Torrance"
The purchase of the TF5 is a great way to transform an older tech team into the digital age. Livestreaming will be the ultimate goal, however, we will be able to post mix our productions and give copies of our performances to folks who can't be at a live event. Great days ahead!!
The TF5 was a huge step up in audio quality and routing flexibility vs. the aging Presonus it replaced. Correctly choosing and routing the inputs and outputs is easy once you know how, and I strongly recommend learning how to do this even if you have someone do the initial setup for you. That way if a source disappears or doesn't seem to be working you'll be able to quickly diagnose and fix the issue. The TF5 has a learning curve but the product designers did an excellent job making it approachable for new users without crippling its very flexible feature set. The layer system is easy to learn and use, dynamics processing (Gate/Expander and Compressor) is top notch and very user-friendly, and the EQ is really nice: you can use the touch screen, jog dial, or both, to choose frequency, boost/cut, and width (Q).The app is full-featured, runs on a tablet, and lets you remotely control all critical mixer features and operation.Comparing this to a Soundcraft si Expression 3, it's not even close. The Soundcraft is not a bad board, but the TF5 is newer and it shows. Larger, more responsive, easier to read touchscreen display, easier to use, significantly better app, better signal processing, and better sounding effects (that are also easier to set up).The only issue we've had is after about 18 months random faders will randomly fail to return to their correct position when switching between layers. This is an issue because it affects the mix level of that channel. Let's say fader 5 is turned up on Layer 1 and turned all the way down on Layer 2. When you switch from Layer 1 to Layer 2 the fader for channel 5 snaps all the way down. But when you switch back to Layer 1 it stays there rather than snapping back to where you had it set. Oops, you just lost your main vocal. Or guitar, or piano, or whatever. To make matters worse it doesn't happen all the time and it doesn't always happen to the same fader.Other than that issue the mixer has performed well and is a pleasure to use. ANY digital mixer, even a top line brand like Yamaha, can fail. My advice: if your mixer is mission-critical have a backup plan.
