I like the fact that I don't have to have a 5.1 system in order to experience surround sound. This system has virtual surround so it is able to simulate surround sound as long as you are sitting fairly centrally. Great Speaker for price
7 January 2022

Despite many comments about it being hard to setup, I thought it was pretty easy. I think it depends on the person and how tech savvy someone is or isnt. The speakers have connected well to the TV and its great that I can control the volume of the speakers with our TV remote (we have a new LG smart TV with arc HDMI). To control from phone is easy with the app. The remote it comes with is also great and easy. It definitely has improved the sound quality of our TV/movie experience. The bass is pretty good and with the 3D surround on it definitely makes what you watch more immersive. Obviously compared to high end sound bars this is wouldnt compare but I think for the price it does exactly what we wanted, which was improved TV sound so that we can actually hear the ... MoreDespite many comments about it being hard to setup, I thought it was pretty easy. It connects very well with Spotify which is awesome so we can use the sound-bar as its own device on Spotify. Music play excellent as well. I gave it a 4/5 because although I dont have any complaints about it, it still doesnt blow your mind.

The sound bar is sleek and thin which makes it visually appealing and a seamless addition to our TV set up. The amp box doesn't take up too much room. I placed my line between my dresser and my full length mirror. The sound is noticiable amplified after adding the sound bar and it has made our morning jam sessions and movie nights a more enjoyable experience. And the convenience of having Alexa is something I never knew I needed. It functions as my alarm, my reminders and I am able to ask questions to Alexa on the fly. 10 out of 10, would recommend.

Nice sound & Somewhat Easy to Setup

The YAS-209 Sound Bare and Wireless Subwoofer with Alexa Built-in is a great product. The speakers came in a very solid manufacturer's box! Getting the product out of the box is what took the longest in setup. The product requires an HDMI cable to set up which was not included. Luckily I had one available and was able to get the soundbar connected in no time. As far as the subwoofer goes all you have to do is plug it in and turn it on as the devices come pre-synced. I was able to play a television program and the sound came right out of the speakers with no problems. The most difficult part of this process was finding the correct application in the store. I would suggest providing a QR code that directs users to the correct app for their device.Nonetheless, I am pleased with this speaker setup! I have already recommended it to colleagues who looking into wireless speakers.

On my 3rd YAS-209 since 2020

This is the third YAS-209 I've purchased to go with an LG OLED55C9 TV in January 2020. The first one exhibited intermittent audio dropouts not long after I installed it, using the HDMI ARC channel connection from the LG TV. The replacement for that unit worked fine for about 2 years and 3 months, then started cutting out altogether. (The Toslink optical connection still worked.)Testing with an HDMI analyzer showed the LG's HDMI ARC port was functioning correctly, so I took a chance and bought a 3rd YAS-209. That worked correctly right out of the box.Note that the YAS-209 will not power up automatically through a Toslink connection; only through an HDMI ARC connection. Otherwise, you'll need two remote controls to operate everything.I corresponded with Yamaha's U.S. corporate headquarters, describing the issue in detail and the steps I used to diagnose the problem, but got little in the way of a response other than, "Turn everything off, wait several minutes, and turn everything back on.' Not helpful at all. It appears to be a problem in the DAS-209 reading the TV's Data Display Channel (DDC) information, which would indicate the presence of an audio return signal on an HDMI port.It sounds great when working, and I do like the wireless (Bluetooth) sub-woofer feature. The virtual (spatial) surround sound is also impressive for a soundbar.

Pricey for the quality

This Yamaha sound bar is a great addition to any entertainment setup that currently only uses the built-in television speakers for sound. Once one starts using a soundbar and subwoofer for everyday movie, TV, and music consumption, there really is no going back. This soundbar was very easy to set up, the directions were very clear with good diagrams about routing HDMI cables. Once you download the app to your phone, you can connect your soundbar to your home network and then set up the alexa functions and sign into other accounts. This soundbar was very easy to set up, the directions were very clear with good diagrams about routing HDMI cables. Once you download the app to your phone, you can connect your soundbar to your home network and then set up the alexa functions and sign into other accounts. The sound quality is okay with this sound bar, I have noticed that it really depends on what you are watching or listening to. And depending on what you’re watching, you have to adjust settings accordingly. For example, the setting that sounds great for TV shows and commercials, sounds awful when you start streaming music from your phone. I had to switch sound settings to music and turn off 3d surround for music to sound good. And when switching back to a TV or movie, it sounds great once the setting is adjusted back to movie or tv, and clear voice is turned on, and 3d surround is turned on. I also noticed that this speaker lacks in volume no matter the source or media. With my phone streaming music, my phone volume turned all the way up, and the speakers volume all the way up, it is still just noticeably not as loud as other sound bars in our home that have the same specs but are a different brand. Same thing for TV or movies, the volume number shows on screen and we have to go just about to the top in the 60s in order to hear it okay, if we just use the built in TV speakers we can listen in the 15-25 range so having to be up in the 60s we thought was pretty strange. We also noticed the base of the subwoofer could be stronger, again we have an identical setup from a different brand also in the house and the base on that one is just stronger. A huge plus that this Yamaha speaker has is the voice command function with alexa, it is perfect for those already familiar with using alexa. Our household is not quite used to it yet as this is our first device with it, but we are getting the hang of it with streaming amazon music and other options. I was not really impressed with the app needed for this soundbar, for one there is a lack of sound adjustments for this soundbar but I was hoping the app would let me dig in a little more and make minor adjustments but all you can adjust is the same basic functions that the remote can adjust. The app is very basic and it would have been better if no app was needed, and the remote had a little more functionality to it and a menu could be on the TV screen for any adjustments and account sign ins. Overall for someone just looking to upgrade from using their TV's built in speakers and are not too picky, this is a good choice. However if someone is a audiophile and is going to be picky about sound, this might not be the best option, I was a little disappointed in Yamaha with this one, I was expecting more from such a high end brand.

My type of hearing loss is typical among seniors, and I am astonished that there are not more audio products that cater to this. The sound is amazing, we non longer need CC. Why only four stars? My how things have changed! Upon the purchase of our new Sony TV and Yamaha sound bar, I could not just hook them up and get them to work. The TV required 3 calls to tech support. They take control of the TV, make changes to the settings, up load data, etc. I hooked up the sound bar via HDMI-ARC and It would not work. I called support, they had me down load an app to my phone, downloaded data to the sound bar, reset the unit holding down buttons etc. When it finally came on it sounded great. Added the Clear Voice enhanced dialog, and wow. I very much recommend this product. The down side is that it looks like the future of AV is no longer hook up and use. Total time needed for me to get things going was 5 to 7 hours over 3 days to get the TV and sound bar to pair and work. On both the sound bar and tv, neither came with clear straightforward instructions. The booklets seem to just praise the features, and not step you threw the process. It takes time to set it up, try to troubleshoot, go threw a lot of frustration before calling tech support. It would have been worth the price to have the Geek Squad make it work, then to find my way threw this trial and error process on my own.

Last month I purchased a Yamaha Soundbar from Richer Sounds. Initially I called my local store, who has none in stock. However, I called the telesales team and I was able to order one. They were nice enough to price match against a competitor and have me a further £10 off. I was super chuffed. The Soundbar arrived a few days later, in a huge box. Unboxing the item was a tad more difficult than expected. However, setting up the Soundbar was a doddle, I would recommend having two good quality HDMI cables to run from the source to the Soundbar and from the Arc connection of the Soundbar to the TV’s counterpart. The Bluetooth subwoofer synced with the Soundbar without issue. Once fired up, it’s recommended to activate Alexa, which is always fun to use. Whether you are watching an Avengers movie on Disney plus or a show on Prime Video, prepare to have your socks blown off. Yes it’s not as powerful nor as laser sharp as a dedicated home cinema set up but for a sound bar, it’s impressive. This trounces the normal sound from my Sony TV, so it’s a worthwhile upgrade. Get one!!
