Great for home theater use for those like me who want a Dolby Atmos soundbar but don't yet have a Tv with eARC. For the price I am disappointed in a few things. HDMI 1 is the only HDMI out of 4 that support Atmos. There is no HDR10 capability for better picture. And the one that kills me most is that there is no AirPlay 2 for syncing with all my other speakers and no plans to add it in future firmware updates. This makes the super high price tag cringeworthy. And so for the Amazing Dolby Atmos surround from a single soundbar I must give up HDR10 and any hope of using it for music with other AirPlay 2 speakers. Yamaha please fix this in a future firmware update.

I really love this digital sound projector. The sound field is large and immersive. I have paired it with a Klipsch 10" subwoofer and together they sound incredible. What I don't like is for the price tag it doesn't have HDR10 pass through or, more importantly to me, AirPlay2. I want to perfectly sync my YSP-5600 with my other AirPlay2 speakers to immerse myself in music. To fix this I have ordered a Belkin Soundform Audio Adapter which should turn the YSP-5600 into an AirPlay2 speaker. But really Yamaha should fix this in a firmware update or at least include the adapter. As a side note, my 2 MusicCast 20 speakers have been on back order for months now.

Despite being a Yamaha user for 30+ years, I have tested a few high-performance soundbars like Bang & Olufsen, Bowers & Wilkins, and Sonos looking for an HDR+ compatible, but in the end, I just got a TV with Dolby Atmos and DTS. I plugged the HDMI output into the YSP, and it works awesome. I paired it with an SVS subwoofer, and boom!! the room.

Very disappointed in the NS-SW300. Bought it because of the price point, the Yamaha name and the many good reviews. Had this for about a year and a half and it stopped.working. It was still under warranty so it was sent back for repair. It lasted for about another 2 years under rare usage and then has just recently quit working again. Seemingly the same problem as the first time. Very frustrated with the quality of the electronics in this NS-SW300. The amp inside the sub does not seem to be activating when turned on. Very poor investment. Beware this sub is not worth the money.
This sound bar, er, 'digital sound projector' as Yamaha calls it, is amazing.I was skeptical that a soundbar could achieve this kind of effect without any rear channels, but I've been proven wrong. I'm not sure what kind of voodoo is in there, but it's good voodoo.Sound overall can get really loud, but remains clear. Setup was a breeze. My programmable remote supported this soundbar and got all the settings right the first time.I was looking forward to having an airplay device, I'm just so done with Bluetooth, and this soundbar delivers. After initial setup, I could play music from my phone straight away. The soundbar stays in standby mode most of the time and you can wake it by sending music to it. No need to manually turn it on and off. Nice touch!I think ... No need to manually turn it on and off. Nice touch!I think it took me longer to get this thing out of the box than it did to actually set up. I was up and running in about 15 minutes. If you want full room, three dimensional sound, or even just 7.1, you can't really go wrong with this soundbar. One last note, it really is eight inches tall. It's big. I'm in an apartment where I can't mount things to the wall, so I had to raise my TV up about four inches to get it to clear the soundbar. Make sure you have the sightlines for such a tall soundbar, especially if you can't mount your TV to the wall.
As noted by reviewers elsewhere, from the factory the treble is set a bit high. This is adjustable, but you have to go online to get the procedure. I had to give up my Klipsch floor-standing Choruses and other Klipsch speakers to satisfy my wife's demand to reduce clutter and open up the living room. As good as it is, the Yamaha YSP 5600 cannot fill the room and surround you with the presence of sound as well as large speakers can.On the other hand, it does have the ability to make listening to TV better. A dialogue lift button right on the remote gives you three levels of dialogue enhancement. A dialogue lift button right on the remote gives you three levels of dialogue enhancement. This is great for us older folk who often have difficulty making out words over background music and sound effects.Using a headset returns some of the pleasure of listening to music, since how the sound is bounced around the room doesn't matter.Setting up for your space is easy. A wired microphone is included and following the display instructions will give you adequate sound immediately. Having a separate subwoofer is more effective than the built-in bass. Remember to set the SW controls before you start the auto set up. The sub should be at 50 percent volume and lowest crossover.Once you are listening, you have a button for controlling the subwoofer effect on the remote. Marvelous.Although there is a digital audio RCA input, it does not interpret AC-3 Dolby Digital from old Laser Disks. Bummer, I had some great soundtracks in that format. If there is a solution to this, I'd love to hear it.The unit is very tall. A TV should be set with some clearance between the bottom of the TV and the top of the Yamaha. I've found that a little isolation from vibration can be accomplished by putting self-adhesive felt pads on the bottom of the unit. Unless you are a real music buff, this is an ideal speaker for getting the best out of the newer TVs. I'm getting used to it and may find ways to adjust it to even more.
This sound bar is worth every penny. I paired it with a Yamaha YST-FSW050 sub-woofer. The setup with the IntelliBeam microphone was quick and easy and generated a very natural sound field. There is not enough that can be said about the sound quality. I'm very excited to have one piece of equipment that takes the place of a receiver and seven speakers and fills the room with immersive, natural sound.I have the sound bar connected to a 65" Sony Bravia TV, Apple TV and Verizon FIOS STB in addition to the sub-woofer.A few nuisances that I expect to work through given more time:Communication between the TV and sound bar is very fussy. I should really just give up on pushing audio from the TV to the sound bar given that the Apple TV does everything that the TV's apps do. There is a very specific sequence of operations that has to be followed when switching from TV content back to any of the HDMI sources plugged directly into the sound bar.I've also experienced spotty communication between the TV and sound bar. On one occasion the sound bar didn't turn on when the TV was powered on. On another occasion, the TV volume control didn't adjust the sound bar audio. HDMI control is configured on both ends.I so far haven't been able to get the Yamaha sub-woofer to turn on and off with the sound bar via the "System Connect" cable. The remote control is well designed and very elegant. But it has no ability to control my other devices. My low/mid price point Onkyo receiver in my Family Room came with a remote that with minimal programming allows me to control my Verizon STB and Apple TV.And the lack of a printed manual is pretty annoying. I ended up downloading the manual from the website and putting in on my ipad.
This is setup currently in my main bedroom, but once my new house is built, it will take up residence in the small living room, where in the current living room, all that equipment (Yamaha 3070) will be going into a dedicated theater room. Anyways, I love this thing, but it is not a 100% love affair. It's a shame that it was built with a HDMI 1.4 chip set, it just came out on the market too soon really and that is all that was around. I've even inquired with Yamaha if I could send it in and have the chip set changed out to a 2.0 version, but they said it is not possible nor do they have any plans to ever go that route. Very unfortunate as HDR and Dolby Vision content is unable to be passed through it to my lovely OLED. Thankfully the Oppo, like most UHD players has 2 HDMI outputs so audio goes to this device and video passed directly to the display.Despite that, the sound it produces (what it is really about anyways) paired with the NS-SW300 is very clean, accurate and amazing in its ability to produce surround channels. Both ATMOS and DTS:X tracks sound quite good, not on par with my current living room setup (to be expected, as I have a 7.4.4 setup), but the job is accomplished still. Surround effects are much better then the height effects, but one's room arrangement will definitely play a part in how the sound is output to trick you into hearing sounds behind you even though you know you have no speakers there.I could recommend this item, even with the cost of it, but definitely would not hold back that it is unable to pass HDR signals to those who do not do their homework before purchasing. That could be a complete no purchase for many these days as everything from physical media to even the dreaded streaming services offer HDR content.Still hoping Yamaha will release a newer version of this fantastic device, maybe a YSP-5700, with a HDMI 2.0b chipset at least, if not full 2.1 to then take advantage of eARC and its many benefits moving forward.
I have the YSP 5600 as my sound system for cable tv, Apple TV, and net radio. The sound is really good, and with high quality movies I can hear the rain behind me, or the jets going over my head. I tried using it for distribution by hooking up DVD, cable, and Apple TV but could not get 4k HDR to pass through. I understand it is older but without firmware upgrade it only works for sound.
For the Home Theater fan seeking real surround soundwithout a receiver and 7 extra speakers. This bar is the one that truly delivers 3D surround soundwithout any help from wireless rear speakers as many othersrely upon because they lack the "know how"to project the stereo effects around the viewer/listenereffectively and convincingly.Yep!Finally a sound bar that actually makes your ears think there areside, rear & ceiling speakers.Audition this puppy & you'll be salivating to buy it!No BS.If you add a quality sub-woofer and calibrate it to this bar properly, you'll not need a receiver or 7.1 speakers anymore. That's just how magic this unit is.The price is high but you get what you pay for.Example:A person lives off-grid in a a mountain cabin setting ...
