Being someone who has to work to a budget, this lens seemed to be an obvious candidate. From what Ive seen, so far, the image is sharpe and clear. Its not the image of a 400 lens, but perfectly fine for general use, and the processed picture scales up really nicely. The other massive advantage is the aperture . At F1.4, it really succeeds in low light situations. For only having had this lens for less than a couple of weeks, I can only give a new users review.

I first got this lens and put it right on my camera (who needs instructions???) and the first thought was man this lens is really terrible..i tried inside, outside, every setting and could not get a clear image. I then remembered seeing a video where the lens shipped with clear plastic stickers to protect the lens.(why don't they make them red or blue?) and i had a hard time peeling those off, but once I did, I was very satisfied with the quality of the images. SO MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE PROTECTIVE CLEAR PLASTIC COVERING. All in all I am sure it is not as sharp as a canon ef-1.8 or 1.4 but for around $60 to get to learn a 50mm fixed prime lens is well worth it. I am not selling any photos and do this just for fun, so this is a great addition to my gearbag. I would ... Can't wait to see what Youngnuo comes out with next!

Bought this lens as a replacement for my 50mm Canon lens that I dropped and broke. This lens is a decent enough lens. Images are fairly sharp and colour seems nicely presented on my laptop screen and phone, although I have yet to print any images out. However, I find the autofocus is quite slow and noisy, plus the depth of field is not as good as the Canon lens that it replaced unfortunately. Overall it is still is good value orientated addition to your kit. It will definitely do until I can afford a Canon 50mm 1.4f. I would still recommend this lens for its price.

Nice upgrade over most kit lenses. Image isn't as sharp as more expensive lenses but good enough. Very good bokeh. Slow autofocus. Not suitable for videography. Everything is very good about the lens except the autofocus. Need to take photos with a steady hand due to lack of image stabilisation and very shallow depth of field. Very light weight so easily manageable. Overall build quality is acceptable considering the price.
I'd recommend this lens to any starter photographer because it's just as good as the canon equivalent in terms of pics but I wouldn't recommend this lens to someone wanting to make videos for the simple fact that the auto focus is very slow and very loud. If you're trying to do YouTube just buy canon 50mm. Overall this is a very great lens, only con is auto focus
I'm no professional, but I'm a hobbyist on a budget, with a crop frame DSLR camera, and this lens is a worthy add-on for my lens bag. Cheap plastic, but it seems sturdy enough. Mounts to camera nicely. The AF motor produces some noise, but it doesn't matter if you're not shooting motion video ... AF is a bit slow in comparison to Canon lens, but nothing to complain about. Sharpness is not perfect, but good enough. All in all, you get more than you pay for. Four stars actually, but five because of great value for money. (sample images were additionally sharpened and contrast added)
As someone who's just started exploring photography more seriously, this is a great addition to my kit. For the price especially, it's really worth it. Also, as it's not as expensive as the official Canon lens, I'm not afraid to take it places with me. The pictures are mostly pretty Sharp, with a nice depth of field, some pictures can look a little "glowy". However, if you're looking for a lens that is snappy at focusing, perhaps you might want the Canon one, as this one is a bit sluggish and loud trying to find the focus. Not a problem if you're okay to mostly focus manually or if you have a few more seconds to get the shot. Overall I highly recommend it.
Considering the price, this is an amazing bit of kit. Excellent low light photos and great for creating images with a very shallow depth of field. Pictures are clear and sharp with no obvious distortion or fringing. The lens body is plastic but seems pretty durable and the autofocus works well. It's not the quickest or quietest mechanism in the world but for most applications it's perfect, and at this price it would seem foolish to criticise. All round a great product and well worth the money to experiment with a wide aperture prime lens before considering moving on to f1.4 or 1.2 lenses (at much higher cost).
I was thinking, because of the cheap price, this lense wouldn't be a usable lense. But after installing onto my Canon T5i and shooting some videos, my preconceived opinions were changed. The image is clear and it allows a lot more light on that I expected. The one downfall I will mention is there auto focus isn't the best. I ended up using manual focus for all the pictures and videos I shot. But, for the price of this lense, I can highly recommend it. Be forwarded, this item is shipping from China so it's going to take a few weeks to ship to your door if you live in the U.S.
I'm surprised at the image quality. not so good at f1.8 but close it down a little to f8 and the picture quality is not to bad at all. At only $67.00 AUD delivered. I can't complain. Tamron started in a similar way and look at their lenses now. Well done Yongnuo.
