The small yukihira saucepan is indispensable for anyone cooking authentic Japanese food. This traditional, lightweight cooking pot is made to a design that has been common since the mid-19 th century – though some argue they have evolved from a vessel used for cooking over ¹⁰⁰⁰ years ago! The sides of the saucepan are hammered to create dimples in the metal. This increases the surface area of the pan and allows heat to be conducted more quickly and evenly. They also help to prevent food from burning and sticking. Yukihira saucepans are traditionally used to make dashi, miso soup and stewed dishes. With the internal scale that measures from ⁴⁰⁰ml to ¹⁰⁰⁰ml and pouring spouts on either side, you’re sure to find many other uses for this versatile saucepan. This stainless-steel yukihira pot is easy to care for, as it is not susceptible to rust or other forms of corrosion. It is also very durable, making this a pan you can enjoy using for years to come. Induction compatible. Materials: stainless steel, wooden handle.

For items that tend to burn easily, such as rice, I would definitely suggest a heavier pot. Given the above caveats, you decide. I am very pleased and reach for it more often than I anticipated.

I was really looking forward to this saucepan. Not only did it look beautiful in the photo, but I thought the wooden handle a wonderful feature. Not! I have a Wolf range, which, admittedly, is powerful. I went to boil eggs and turned the flame on medium, and within a minute or two, smelled a burning in the kitchen. The edge of the wooden handle was burnt. Imagine what would have been if I'd had the flame higher? It takes twice as long to boil in this pan because of having to be wary of the handle, which, by the way, is already loose. I wouldn't purchase this again, and am considering even keeping it.

Got the original one Food 52 had several years ago and it finally died, after much use. Instantly returned to Food 52 to get another. This one a bit smaller but even sturdier. Love it. It can do most anything perfectly.

Great pot but messy pouring spouts
13 April 2022

This is a great lightweight stainless steel saucepan with a wooden handle that feels marvelous in your hand. There is even a stainless collar to protect the wood from any flames that a gas burner might send up the sides. The wood handle is even easily replaceable with spares available for purchase. My wife makes cocoa every night on her induction cooktop with this pot. The ingredients are 1 percent milk and Corona Traditional bar chocolate from Columbia. Her previous saucepan had no spout and it used to be somewhat messy pouring into 3 mugs.I saw the double pouring spouts and thought this might work for her, especially after reading a review which praised the spout's pouring ability.I just want to set the record straight that in our experience it will only be ... MoreThis is a great lightweight stainless steel saucepan with a wooden handle that feels marvelous in your hand. It is a shame the spouts fail so, at least with our cocoa.I still rate it 5 stars but it would be a 10 if it worked as it should.I will note that we bought this pan in two sizes and they pour identically poorly.

Great saucepan, one drawback
26 December 2023

This is a wonderful saucepan I use on a gas stovetop. I have used it several times and each time the sauces cook up perfectly and the cleanup is very easy. It will last a very long time quality-wise. One drawback is the pour spout. Whether I try to pour slowly in a thin stream or not, I have tried various ways to pour and not have the liquid dribble everywhere down into a mug - does not work. The spout could be improved to be a deeper v shape to make pouring more accurate, with no mess and functional.

Mixed feelings - overall disappointed.
18 December 2021

I bought a full set with the lids.At first I loved the beautiful saucepans. BUT the different sizes don't stack well in drawers as the handles stick up and out.The wooden knob split and broke first time running through dishwasher (top shelf). The screw was welded onto the lid and I couldn't get other knobs to fit the screw so I'm trying to figure out what to do with it. I also liked the idea of having one lid for two pots until I realized I wanted a lid for each pot.Due to impractical storage, lids, and cleaning (not dishwasher safe)... after one use I've demoted them to the pantry with other infrequently used servingware. I'm looking to pawn off the larger sizes and get more 6" for ramen nights with friends.

My Stove Top Is So Happy!

Review of Yukihira Saucepan 20cm

Excellent saucepan, cooks quickly and most importantly for me, is lightweight, helpful for my arthritic hands. If a saucepan can be called lovely, this one certainly is! Am now ordering the matching lid, and hope to get the smaller size as well when it’s back in stock.

Super Saucepan!
9 January 2022

I needed a saucepan for melting different kinds of hard butter for soap making. I also needed one that would work on an induction burner in my soaping area and hopefully one with a pouring spout. I was being picky, I know. I looked in the restaurant supply shops, and cooking shops in the area where I live and they were all too large or were ridiculously overpriced in my estimation. I really like the size of this saucepan and ordered the smallest one and will purchase the largest one probably in a few weeks when I start making my larger batches of goat milk soap. I know looks don't make a pan cook any better but I really like how this pan looks and having a wood handle is like having ganache on a chocolate cake!
