These are wonderful. The optics should be top-notch, and they are. Very high quality bright image, and amazing field of view. The eye relief is just right for working with my eyeglasses. The tripod adapter allowed me to make a forehead rest for greater stability because I cannot bring a tripod with me usually. These have an enormous-large 3-D zone, and because that zone is so large, focus is fast and not finicky. The 3-D zone means the focus is so good that your eyes can contribute to the focus adjustments for various objects within the zone that may be at different distances, yet you don't need to constantly adjust the knob to achieve top focus within the zone. I am an optical engineer and ran some resolution tests on these, and found near diffraction-limited performance over a good size area. Even at the far edges of the FOV, the image quality is quite good. I also REALLY like that these binoculars don't have the right-side diopter shift mechanized near the center focus knob: it's near the eyepiece. I prefer it there because I find that approach very dependable once set, and is simpler, lighter weight, and lower cost.

Yes, they are a splurge. But these binos are killer! They feel great in the hand, are bright and clear, and the focus is easy and fast. As a scientist, I am familiar with Zeiss optics on microscopes and other high end equipment, and as an astronomy hobbyist, I know good optics. These really are amazing!

My husband loves watching all the animals and birds daily. He had three pairs of binoculars, each pretty good quality. My precious brother suggested these new binoculars and it was the best recommendation ever. Husband is extremely happy, uses them every day and tells me daily how much he enjoys them.

Absolutely agree with the reviews I read. If you want good binoculars you have to be willing to invest in them. These are good quality and the lighting caught by these lenses really help me to identify birds in the field, and notice exceptional detail. Saw a Phainopepla today and loved the view!
The focus is heavy & high-geared, so precise focus is difficult. The rubber attracts dust &, despite advertising that you can hold it for several hours, even after holding it for several minutes it feels sticky & unpleasant in the hands. On first viewing it seems a clear contrasty view with strong colours, but chromatic aberration (colour fringes) intrude when a subject is moved off-centre & the resolution is not as good as the 42mm SFs. "Designed by Zeiss", prominent between the eyepieces, usually means made by someone else, but Wex insisted it was made by Zeiss. Is there a Zeiss factory in Japan?I had both the 8x40 & 10x40 SFLs & I was disappointed so returned them to Wex.
After years of trying different binoculars, I splurged for the new Zeiss 8x40 SLFs. Hardest part was actually finding a pair to try! Could not be happier. They seem much better balanced than the more expensive and heavier 8x42 (several brands) and have a much wider field of view than some of the less expensive models. Optics are excellent as you would expect. If you are looking to shave off some weight in a pair of higher end binoculars - it is worth giving these a look-see-through.
Pros: Light and easy to use. Focusing very quickly altered, optics very impressive. No
Pros: Lightness clean bright view great colour resolution feel good to hold cracking pair of bins I’m well happyCons: Can’t think of anything you could say the price but I think they are worth every penny
I bought these binoculars for my husband for Christmas. A friend of his has them and let my husband use them on an elk hunt. After that, he really wanted them. They are very well made and come with a heavy duty case. The vision is crystal clear and they are easily adjusted. He is upgrading from Leupolds, that he has used for years, and they have worked well for him. But these are a huge improvement. They are a little pricey, but with optics, you get what you pay for. If you do a lot of hunting, you will not be disappointed. He is very pleased with them.
Spending $1000 seems crazy, but the Zeiss (as well as Leica) binoculars are your only choices if you actually need the highest level of image sharpness and light gathering capability. I recently lost my 10X 42 Leicas but since the Zeiss were $160 cheaper I tested them and found them indistinguishable in performance to the Leicas, so that's what I bought. I use these Zeiss 10X 40 binoculars for birdwatching, hunting, and general use because they really are noticeably superior to any other binoculars I've tested or owned. You know how much better $400 binoculars are than $29.95 binoculars...well the Zeiss (and Leica) are that much better than any $400 binoculars. For early morning or late evening use, they're like looking through a searchlight when scanning dark shadowy areas. Their image clarity is so good, I strongly prefer these to moderately priced (i.e., slightly fuzzy) 15X50 binoculars or spotting scopes when evaluating deer, moose, or goats at 3/4 mile. Likewise when trying to figure out what kind of sparrow I'm watching at 100 yards, these are perfect. It's a big step to pay this much for binoculars but if you need really good binoculars, the Zeiss and the Leica are worth it.
