My pup had abdominal surgery the other day to clean out her stomach of badness after she got into the garbage :(The plastic Elizabethan Collar (Lampshade/E-Collar) that was provided by my vet did the job, but she had such a hard time functioning with it on. She wouldn't walk unless it was ABSOLUTELY necessary, and if she got stuck, she would just stay there until we'd see and help her.The soft collar not only fits her better and is a more appropriate length, but it also doesn't restrict her nearly as much if she finds herself in a jam. She might need some encouragement, or a quick hand, but she is overall more capable of getting herself out of it. She also can go outside for a potty wearing it, and if we take it off she doesn't fight us when we try to put it back on.She is more willing to walk, she is able to lay down more comfortably, and I think most importantly, it isn't nearly has heavy, and therefore does not weigh her neck down. The last point is specifically important because she has a very long neck and a small head in comparison to her body.

My dog had surgery on his paw and has to wear a cone for 7 days. The one from the vet had plastic loops to connect to the collar. He has had a very difficult time getting comfortable and seeing around since the plastic wasn't really clear. I saw this online and bought it to see if it would help. I don't think any cone would be ideal but I have to say that this works out a lot better than the other cone. It took him a moment to get used to the fabric parts and ran into some items during that time. I don't love that it doesn't keep a round shape and just falls on his head while lying down, however, it's flexible fit allows for more movement when he lays next to an object, or me. I think it was overpriced but in these situations I would pay a lot for his comfort.

I bought two of these products this week for my dog who’s neck is about 18inches. The company’s site recommends to size up if your pet is between sizes which he is between L/XL... this may not be the best option for all. In the size Large my dog had the right fit to see and function normally BUT he could still lick his leg, which was the whole reason for the cone. With the size XL it just barely velcros around his neck and he can’t do much because the top of the cone flops into his eyes constantly. This is still the best option over a traditional cone which is why this got a 3 and not a 1/5. The other issue I have with it is that it should have snaps instead of Velcro. I’d love a better version of this maybe a large that extends a little past 18 inches or maybe even a size L/XL. Honestly I would’ve returned the product if he didn’t get hair all over the velcro on both of them. Maybe if your pet is between sizes shop around for something else.
