Zinsser 02704 Quart Satin Gloss Perma-White Mildew-proof Bathroom Paint

Coverage was not good. Painting white over beige and it took three coats. Service from Walmart was great. Product not so much. Almost used a whole gallon in a powder room with half the wall tiled and a large 3 foot by 4 foot mirror over the sink.

This paint is awesome for doing lanai ceilings. My ceiling looks brand new! I would highly recommend this. You do need to put two coats of Zinsser Peel Stop Triple Thick prior to using the Perma-White Mold & Mildew-proof Interior paint. I contacted Rustoleum to get this information.

Time is money. Customers want their paint to look perfect. Had I used Perma White on one of those jobs, I would have lost profits. This paint had more bubbles in it than a sponge cake. Wow. I rolled some on, and I couldn't believe the amount of bubbles that formed in the finish. The only way I was able to save my ceiling was to commit a cardinal sin of painting, and actually wait five or ten minutes for the paint to set up on the first roll out, and then come back and BACK ROLL it to press out the bubbles... Anyone who has ever laid on a finish with any sheen above matte knows this is a BIG no no, because it means you have lost your wet edge, and you are now LIFTING the paint you just applied OFF the surface you want it on, and it will also modify the sheen. Anywhere you back roll paint that has started to cure, even for a minute, will lose its nice, pretty skin and will now look like someone leaned against the wall with a wool sweater on while it was tacky.This wouldn't be SO bad, because I know how to back roll effectively and not compromise the finish... except when these bubbles popped, it looks like my ceiling is made up of a billion little suckers from an octopus's tentacles, due to the crown of the bubble popping, and leaving a ring. (I will post a video of me attempting to blow them out prior to back rolling.) Also, I didn't want any texture, because I spent a great deal of time skim coating and sanding this room to a level 5, ultra smooth finish. Total waste of time, now, since this almost looked like the popcorn I scraped off, and I am mostly mad about that.Yes, it is gummy as others have said. You know how I know? Because I had to strain the paint before using it to get the elastic gobs of rubbery GUNK out from stirring it, so they wouldn't wind up on the ceiling. I haven't had to strain a brand new can of modern paint once in this millennium, and I understand that the "anti-mildew" component makes it this way, and it is inevitable. Just be warned.One last complaint: Horrible coverage. It took better than three-fourths of a quart to cover fifty square feet of my 10 X 5 bathroom. That is absolutely RIDICULOUS. This paint requires two coats to truly be mildew-proof, but I don't even have enough left to apply a second coat with this can. Honestly, I'm glad. It's a good thing I am not using this trash for my second coat. It's worth my time to drive to the store and purchase a proven performing paint to finish this job.I am surprised, Zinnser... you really dropped the ball on this one as far as I am concerned, and I am also not happy that you discontinued GARDZ. Sadly, I am going to have to find a different solution for all of my future projects. If you are determined to use this product, I would suggest spraying, using the lowest nap possible on a roller, or even a good, HIGH QUALITY foam roller, as these are the best for back rolling out bubbles and not lifting the coating or leaving texture when you go over the paint again... which you shouldn't have to do.

Better than expected

For all those people saying it is to thin please have the can shaken by an associate, the paint separates after sitting on shelves, also get a mixing stick they are free. If you are changing a color or working on bare surfaces use bin Zinsser primer first, i also recommends two coats primer and paint on wood surfaces. It is a little thinner than most paints, but after having yellowing from expensive dedicated paint store products, I decided to give this a shot. It levels itself out very well which is great so you will not see overlapping, and has a great smooth look to it. I could tell the difference in color immediately when I laid it over the old semigloss trim that I used two years ago

Great paint that gives you a great finish!

It is a great paint for painting the bathroom ceiling. Easy clean-up. For my bathroom, I needed two coats. I recommend Zinsser paint, especially in the bathroom with all the moisture.Thank You,RH

I bought this paint online to see if it would make a difference. It arrived in a few days but in the meantime I prepped the ceiling for paint. I sanded the ceiling to get as clean a surface as possible and applied BIN stain primer. On the day it arrived I applied the paint to the ceiling. Coverage was excellent and the paint dried to a smooth (semi) glossy finish. It looked better that the other times I used regular ceiling paint. I decided to use the second gallon for the bathroom walls. Not in love with it

Really not that impressed with this paint.Firstly the finish is closer to satin than semigloss and yeah, I bought semigloss. It's a lot less semi gloss than the Valspar Semi Gloss I was using elsewhere.Secondly, we did a light spray, 400sqft of a wooden ceiling and used 2 gallons, so it's coverage recommendation of 400sqft per gallon is way off.Still trying to decide whether to buy another 2 gallons for the second coat, or buy something different.

Perma-White Mold %26 Mildew Proff Interior Paint

This paint works great. Covers easily and prevents mold and mildew. Painted all the woodwork and cabinets in the bathroom. It even covered crack on the ceiling like it was never there. Highly recommend this product.

Smells

This stuff stinks. I used bulleye 123 primer 1 coat then this perma white semi gloss 2 coat to paint bathroom. Omg the smell is so overwhelming and powerful. I have window open and fan on and still after 6 days it still smell stinky. How can I get rid of this smell. It says water based low odor why does it smell so bad and the smell has not faded at all. How to get rid of smell asap?

Will return the paint this weekend.

I ordered this paint on the 14th and received the package on the 22nd, but had to wait until today (the 24th) to start painting. I am a senior female and don't trust myself to do jobs alone without my son here. Well, we opened this box and I was very excited to start painting interior doors. He took one gallon and headed to the bedroom. I grabbed one and went to the bathroom to do the door.When I opened the can, I was dismayed to see so many black flecks in the paint. I thought it might be the mold retardant and that it would mix in without being seen on the door, so I went ahead and stirred it, then started painting. This drips so much that even if you don't see them, you go back five minutes later and found the paint has dripped all over.Also, the black flecks mentioned did not show up on the door as black, but they did show up as globs that had to be brushed away. The globs were terrible. I did one side of the door and said, "Enough!" I didn't even get to the other side of the door. I went to my son and told him we were returning the paint this Saturday. He had already nearly finished his door, so he didn't want to stop and I let him finish, but it looks drippy and he, too, had the black flecks all through his paint. They could not be stirred away, no matter how much you stir. He's brushing away the drips on the door right now as I write. I was so mad I came right to my computer to report this fiasco.This is the first time I've ever written a bad review at Home Depot, because I love their products. This one, however, they should have stopped carrying long ago. I just hope they don't give us a problem when I return them this Saturday when I pass the Home Depot on the way to the grocer. Both cans are opened, that's true, but there is barely a tenth used in each (no, make that much less than a tenth. He did one thin coat of one door, and I got one coat on half a door.) I'm going to go exchange this for some decent paint. Live and learn.
