As the other reviews said, it gives false readings.. I am pretty sure I calibrated it correctly, but still read I had a stud where I did not, and none when there actually was a stud. I drilled three holes into my wall trying to hang a TV mount >.< It is going in the garbage and I am looking for a better quality since I am a very novice DIY'er

Purchased this to hang a TV. Checked for studs 3 times to be on the safe side. When I went to drill a hole for the second lag bolt, I hit a pressurized water line for the fire sprinklers. Flooded my entire apartment. I’m on the 2nd floor too. Great introduction to my neighbors. Hire a contractor or buy a device that tells you EVERY LAST DETAIL of what’s behind that wall. Don’t make my mistake.

I recently tried to use the Zircon Stud Finder but could not get it to work correctly. Checked with a neighbor who is a contractor and he was not able to get it to work either. I then called Zircon for advise and received excellent customer service. I was getting the green ok light but it wasn't lighting up red for the stud edge. I was advised I needed a fresher battery and although it was good enough to operate the go light it was not fresh enough to operate the stud finder function. Also learned that batteries have a date on them. Once I installed a battery with expiration day 2022, the stud finder worked perfectly. Who would have figured?

This unit did not perform well in our home. Our home has plaster walls, seemed to really struggle with that type of wall. Also, I do t recommend Lowes because maybe if an associate had been hanging around would have picked up a bitter model.
Bought this and followed instructions. First, the battery did not seem to sit properly and it did not work, I had to push the battery up to get the contacts to meet. Placed the unit on the wall and it seemed to work. I detected (I think) a stud, but moving further along, the light went out after only about 1/2 inch, obviously not a stud. Next attempt, the light never went on, even after going several feet across the wall. Last try, the light went on immediately and never went off. Back in the package and back to Lowe's.
I bought this Stud Finder a while back and it didn't give any readings. I exchanged it for another one thinking that it was broken and had pretty much the same issue. It would randomly light up but not consistently. Even when I found a stud using a magnet and then tried to 're-find' it using this stud finder, it wouldn't give a reading. I ended up buying a CH Hanson 03040 Magnetic Stud Finder elsewhere and it works perfectly. It's under $10, which is cheaper than the Zircon L20 #which doesn't even include the couple of bucks you'll have to spend on a 9 volt battery for this thing#. I highly recommend the Hanson stud finder over this. No batteries, easy to use, a very strong magnet, and doubles as a bubble level.
Going to purchase this stud finder. Borrowed this one from a friend and worked well. I did have to double check a few areas. But you know the old saying, measure twice cut once. Well i checked twice and screwed once. I stsrted in a area i knew that there was no stud and slowly slid it along the wall in till it beeped the marked with a pencil. After that i took it off the wall and moved it a few inches ti the other sife and brought it towards the pencil mark intill it started beeping again and marked it with a pencil then i knew that was the stud. I will confess i did have to make about six extra drill holes in the wall tring to screw into the studs. Once i firgured that the studs were marked correctly and my tape measure skills were off about half an inch due to not factoring in the side wall of the cabnet i was able to screw into the studs where my marks were on the wall. I have found over the years most issues are operator and not the tool.
I've owned this for over a year now and still can't find that one hunk that'll sweep me off my feet. In all reality, though, this thing will accurately find a stud about 50% of the time. It's not a hammer, a screwdriver, or wrench. It's a stud finder. That's its sole purpose, and if it can't do its job, then it's useless.
Bought this.. put in a 9V I had laying on the workbench. Pressed the buttons and it lit up. Tried finding studs in a wall that I had just drywalled so I knew exactly where the studs were. Never found a single one.Replaced the battery with a fresh one and it works like a charm. Finds the stud edges, beeps and lights up just like it's supposed to. Even detected wiring.
I created an account to spread my displeasure with this product. Do not buy this. Maybe even avert your eyes from this manufacturer since they produced this item. To demonstrate the level of worthlessness of this waste of money I have a wall in the basement that is not finished on one side. I can see the stud. This will not find the stud that I am 100% certain is there. I do this while operating the device in one hand and clutching the instructions in the other. I assure you that it isn’t user error that produces this issue.
