The full-leg flotation shorts have three main purposes: For beginner to intermediate swimmers, the main factor that keeps them from swimming faster is the lack of stability in their core and kick. Their arm strength and technique are generally good, but their body positioning is poor, which creates a lot of resistance and "dead weight", and makes efficient swimming much more difficult. The shorts floatation devices place the swimmer in the correct horizontal and aerodynamic position, which helps them build a "neural model" of how they should feel in the water. It also allows the swimmer to focus on a more efficient leg kick and glide with each stroke, without that "sinking leg" feeling. The extra support also allows the swimmer to focus more on their stroke technique. Results have shown that over time, a swimmer's body position, speed andendurance can be significantly improved by training with shorts floats. Suitable for all triathletes, regardless of level, who wish to refine their open water swimming technique in a pool. Swimming in a wetsuit during a triathlon is very different from swimming without a wetsuit during a swim race. The majority of your power must come from your upper body while your legs and core provide the essential control. These shorts help you develop your open water swimming technique when you're in the pool, where wearing a full wetsuit would either be too hot or prohibited by the lifeguards. Use during open water training or races as an alternative to a full body suit (when the water is warm enough!).

5/3 shorts

Have used these shorts for a few years before. They have been excellent in helping elevate my hips during lap swimming therefore I could concentrate on my stroke and body position in the water. They have now worn out. So Ordered a second pair. Yes I am happy with them. I only swim for Triathlon and open water swimming is always in a wet suit, so trying to overcome hip sink is a big deal for me.

As a beginner swimmer, these shorts have proven to be an invaluable training companion.I've noticed a significant improvement in my breathing technique since using these shorts. The added buoyancy allows me to concentrate more on my breath and refine my strokes without worrying about staying afloat.

Great for as long as they last (around 3-4 yrs for me). Sadly are now ridiculously overpriced since the waddling "wild" swimming cashcow splashed into our waterways after the scamdemic. Yes, functionally great, efficient fit but at the price of almost a whole midrange wetsuit pricing needs to be more realistic.

It's achilles heel -- the waist band
31 July 2023

the trunks will start to fall apart at the waist band.I bought mine at the back end of May '23, and now almost 2 months later (Aug '23) I see the waistband has lost its colour and started to flake in some areas. I've contacted Zone3 about this and they asked me to send them back and that they would send me another pair.Unfortunately, that couldn't happen because they don't have my size in stock. So we agreed that I would continue to use them until they get more stock. That said, I feel like after a couple of months of use with the replacement pair, we'd be facing the same problem.I am very careful. Zone3 need to radically rethink the waist band because except for that these shorts are great

Level up - literally
15 June 2023

Got a Large (34 inch waist) -- just learnt how to swim freestyle. For months i been struggling with good form in the pool. My chiropractor suggested i try the shorts. They do help. Like a lot. I am much more aware of what my body is doing, i can feel the rotation and they allow me to focus on a good stroke. The only thing is how long should i keep wearing them? months? till they fall apart?

My love hate relationship with these shorts!
18 February 2023

I ordered these shorts and was immediately impressed with them the moment I tried them on. Moreover, I was extremely happy with their performance and how much they helped me in the pool. Unfortunately, I have had issues with the seems splitting after only a few swims? I was sent another pair and the exact same thing occurred after one swim, the seems simply split apart? I am not sure what to do next as I was very happy with these shorts and would love to get some that don't come apart. I purchased these shorts online though a reputable dealer here in Canada and because I didn't buy them direct from Zone3 I am sort of out of luck? The company Tri-Boutique is sending me some wetsuit glue to fix the pairs I have. Quality control is appalling in 2022
12 December 2022

After 4 y of use, I came to replace a worn and repaired pair of original buoyancy shorts. I bought direct from Z3 and on opening the new product found extensive seam failure were the glue had not welded the stitched seam. The shorts were returned and I await a replacement pair. I therefore sourced another pair from an alternative web source. This pair lasted 2 x 1000m swims before the said seam glue failed in more than one site. Clearly there is a manufacturing / quality control issue here. An outlay of £140, at £70 per km.

30 July 2024

I have this model of buoyancy shorts for about 5 years, from the time when it was not made in China. I noticed that the L size I own has become too tight and the neoprene has thinned, which is why I recently ordered a new pair, a larger size (XL), and I am very satisfied that the product fits me well (172 cm , 72 kg) and was delivered quickly (10 days). I warmly recommend it to all swimming enthusiasts.

Reduced my swim time for 2 miles by 25 percent!
18 May 2022

I turned 68 in May and have taken about 41 minutes to do a mile and have done 3 mile swims. My legs drag a lot and swimmers and lifeguards recommended I try the pull buoy. It was hard to keep in place between legs but the number of strokes went down a lot as my hips and legs stayed more level. A "Masters Swim Team" and YMCA member suggested the neoprene buoyancy shorts and within a week after reading hundreds of reviews found the Zone3 Originals on eBay by Just Wetsuits Company in AZ had these and i medium size as needed. Fast delivery allowed me to try them last week and swimmers who always passed me 10 or more times in 45 minutes never did! I was amazed! While I love the trunk's
29 April 2023

While I love the trunk's buoyancy which really helps keep my hips up, I am very disappointed with how quickly the waist band disintegrates in pool use. I am on my 3rd pair in as many years. The main neoprene section including the seams are still very good but the trunks become unwearable after 1 year's use in my local pool as the waist band falls apart. I try to make 3 trips per week and am in the water 40mins per trip. I shower at the pool with the trunks on and yet the pool water seems to destroy the waist bands. In my opinion, Zone need to reconsider the waist bands material selection, I shouldn't have to buy a new pair of trunks every year!
