Zoom LiveTrak L-20R Digital Mixer and Recorder

I’ve used this zoom mixer ongoing for 8 months and I like it a lot. So much that I bought I second one to use in conjunction with it. It has a lot of strong points - the power is strong, great flexibility with the sub outs and I love how it works seamlessly with the iPad. It also does well as a midi-face which I use with logic & pro tools. I also use them together as mixers when I stream live...I’ve gotten great positive feedback from listeners as far as the sound quality. I wish someone continues to improve the software. recording is great with the SD card /mixer could work better with DAWs.

Best digital mixer

16 XLR inputs, 6 individual monitor mixes and two effects engines. The ease of the app is great. If you can operate an analog mixer this is for you. I looked at other digital mixer apps and they were more difficult to operate. There were more features if you like a more technical mixer but for me Zoom is perfect. I was using a Mackie Profx16 mixer so this was the best transition to digital. I can't recommend this to first time digital mixer users enough. For the price and the features it's a big win. Excellent small Mixer recorder with 20 inputs

This mixer/recorder is a bit unique in that it allows me to control a live performance and record that performance without an external DAW. That said, the small size comes in exchange for the required iPad.The preamps are exceptionally quiet (about 127db) and the capability to record all 20 tracks internally to an SD card to such a small recorder is very useful.The recordings are very natural and not edgy or grainy. You can record up to 20 independent channels with a resolution and sampling rate up to 24 bit by 96K.Connectivity is exclusively bluetooth, not wifi, so you will not be able to control sound from the back of the room. Excellent sound quality for music. Good microphone included. Shows all subtleties and nuances of piano music - (including unintentional mistakes!). Much improved quality after my old Zoom H2. Well pleased. It would have been even better if a mains adapter was included.

Review of Zoom Livetrack L-20R Rackmount Digital Mixer

I bought this for studio use. It gives me USB multi-track audio for those of my synths that only have analog outs. Putting it into a Core Audio (Mac) aggregate device with the synths that do have USB audio means I can multi-track my whole setup in one pass and use my DAW for everything that my desk used to do, and therefore save all my levels, EQ, compression etc as part of the project.

It includes 16 mic/line inputs and 4 line inputs with extremely quiet preamplifiers. You can use it to drive a 20 channel live sound mix and eq. while it can also record all channels independently to an SD card in 44, 48 and 96K sampling rates in 16 or 24 bit resolution. The I20-R requires an iPad so frankly if you don't have or want an iPad, this is not your best choice. The good news is the L20-R software is intuitive to use and the bluetooth link allows you to set the mix at various locations. For me being able to record without a DAW is extremely valuable for rehearsal analysis and for capturing live performances. In addition to the main outputs it has 6 monitor outs that can be controlled by each players iPad, if they have individual iPads to balance their monitor's instrument level with the overall mix; a nice plus. One iPad can also set all of these to the individual musician's preference. This recorder sounds very good and can produce excellent results. I recommend it where the space and and need for a traditional mixer layout is not needed. Remember you must have an iPad to go with this unit and it requires OS 13 or higher to operate.
