Zyliss Garlic Press Susi 3 with Cleaner

I bought this after checking other reviews where it was considered to be a superior product. But seriously it's not as good as a $10 unit from elsewhere. Why?It's got a small crushing compartment, needs significant grip strength and is not made of materials that are any better. It's not worth the money.

From the description of this I was expecting a really large garlic press that actually fit up to 4 garlic cloves in it. It doesn’t. It’s normal size. Fitting only 1 garlic clove at a time. Sometimes I even have to cut them in half to fit. So the reason I purchased this press for fast garlic pressing convenience is defunct. It’s not bad quality. It’s just not what I was expecting. Also I find the red removable cleaner annoying as it can fall out if you don’t pull it out first. Overall 3 out of 5 stars.

Average garlic press, nothing sets it apart

I really want this to work as well as I thought it would. It has a sleek design, feels ok in your hand and the best part was the little plastic cleaner that fits right in the handle of the press. I pressed a lot of garlic for dinner the other night, I suffer with arthritis and this kind of hurt a little, so if you have issues with your hands, this one is not for you. I wanted the little cleaner brush to work better than it did, the little prongs that should have fit into the press holes bent and were not easy to use. I ended up getting a tooth pick to clean out the press of the extra garlic. It is an ok press, not worth what I paid for it, but it does the job, just not as it is advertised.

Garlic

Had one of these Garlic presses for six or seven years and it was as good as the first day I got it. Then it was put into the dishwasher and that was the end of that , it came out all black as if it had fallen in soot. This one is dishwasher safe so will have on complaints about it. These presses are absolutely brilliant if the last one was still alright it It would have lasted another six years. Brilliant item for the Kitchen, you can buy with confidence.

If It Ain't Broke Don't Fix It!

I have a 25-year-old Zyliss Susi 3 garlic press - it is strong, solid and still crushes beautifully, even though it's not pretty anymore, it works well.I thought an updated model would be improved. Not so. Crushing garlic with skin on doesn't work, it just blocks everything and you have to scrape it all out because the cleaner doesn't work to release this mess, so the garlic is wasted. The new Garlic Press is lightweight, the holes are tiny and it wobbles so you have to exert more effort and attention to guiding the parts together in order to press garlic. Luckily I didn't throw out my oldie but goodie garlic press.

I've used various garlic press devices and all seem to work OK for the first few times and then start to fall apart or require more effort than just dicing up garlic directly. Truly, all that changed with the Zyliss garlic press. We love dishes with garlic, but I could never dice them up small enough to "disappear" into the food and had given up on the "handy" devices. This is not a paid review - I bought the garlic press myself and am totally pleased with it.

My 2nd - not fit for purpose

After a while my press became black where the silver coating rubs off. This blackness was then coming off into the crushed garlic making it grey/black. Lakeland without hesitating sent me another as has a 5 yr guarantee. Been using it a year + the same thing has happened. I do try + handwash but it does go into the dishwasher as it clearly states it's dishwasher safe. It's not safe to use now as garlic comes out black. I have contacted Lakeland + i'm sure they will refund me but my review has taken into account twice trying this product. A utensil used weekly should last longer than a year.

Not good anymore

My old Zyliss garlic pressor of 8 years still works fine after my husband fixed the pivot. I decided to replace it with this newer version since it also got so many good reviews, but what a wrong decision! First the shorter, ergonomic handle doesn’t generate much torque only makes it harder to press comparing with the old one. Second, the little teeth used to push through the holes are also short which leaves a thick layer of garlic unprocessed. The only improvement is the cleaning brush. Very disappointed. Have to search for a new replacement.

Still fiddly to clean

Its claims of easy cleaning are overstated. There is significant waste as the crushed pulp fills every hole and must be cleaned with the little plastic tool in the handle, which keeps falling out. It does the job, but at the end of the day, it's just as easy to crush garlic with the side of a wide-bladed knife.

Works like a dream

This is literally the best garlic press in the world. I also have the susi 2 and everyone who has ever used it, is like wow this is fantastic. The susi 3 is the same design but with an upgraded pace to hold the cleaning tool inside the press. The cleaning feature actually cleans out the holes. It's dishwasher safe and you don't have to peel the cloves.
