I had brought one to see what the difference was between adata and one that I normally use and I must say I am very disappointed.In the description, it says that the capacity is 1TB but that is not correct when I look up the properties to see how much space I have where it has the capacity it does not say TB it says GB so the description and everything else is very miss leading, while I like the design of this harddrive I do not like being lied to.And before anyone thinks I should have read the whole page before buying let me just say I did.

I did take note of previous reviews complaining about the firmness of the connection of the cable/port. I noticed no such issues. However, I'm a little disappointed with the port cover. I don't have to man-handle it, but the insert on the cover "flap" that secures it isn't very deep and requires a little finagling to make it stay on to my satisfaction. Transfer speed is satisfactory, and as always, depends on the speed of the connection and the other storage device your're transferring to/from. I purchased two, for on and off-site backup, also mirrored to iDrive. First time I purchased a "rugged" drive, so only time will tell. The goal is always to never have to see it in action :). I needed backup storage for both my video and data folders and after a lot of research I purchased 2 of these 2 TB drives and am completely satisfied with them. SSD was my initial choice, but I took a second look at conventional HDD as the price difference was enormous. What made up my mind was the ruggedness and small size of the ADATA drive. They are shock resistant and waterproof, that is major, and are a compact size (granted a bit larger than similar capacity SSD) and with a no slip rubber jacket. I just liked what I saw. Best external drive I've used in 25 years! This ADATA drive is impressive for it's 2TB and USB 3.1 speed, but even more impressive to my mind is that it is rugged and extremely reliable. I carried this everywhere I went in a back pack including national and international travel for a few years and it is still running like it was the day I bought it. I've used LaCie drives and numerous other brands and I have never had one I felt safer with this ADATA drive. I've bought two more for my kids and have one more larger one to back all three of our drives up and the whole family is happy!

This drive is excellent (review includes speed tips). If the USB connector to the drive was a problem, it isn't any more. The metal connector is very wide and connects firmly. I've never seen the device connector so wide for a USB cable. I haven't tested any water/dust/shock proof features. I got it for the USB 3 speed connection and the size upgrade from my WD 250G external HDD. The transfer speeds are fast, but I found that they vary widely depending on the data. If you are transferring mostly fewer large files, like 1 hour HD videos for example - the transfer speed is the fastest. This is because the read/write process is doing less overhead and just copying data. Also, those files tend to be more contiguous on the source drive. My newer bigger folders with larger files transferred faster than folders that have had smaller files accumulated and modified over the last 5 years (5 y/o windows7 pc). There is an easy fix without defragmenting the entire hard drive of the source computer. If you have enough space, just make a new copy of the more fragmented folders (do not delete the old folder yet so they copy to a newer contiguous block of the PC HDD or those files will be written right back to the older more fragmented locations that are freed up - just leave the original folder for a backup or delete it just before you are ready to defrag the entire drive). After making a copy of my older fragmented folder - the transfer speeds to the external drive was about 10x faster - literally. The transfer speed for a 10GB folder of video files was actually faster than it was taking for a folder with 2GB of 1000's of older smaller files until I made a new copy of that folder. This is going to be true of any external drive file copy. All else being equal, the USB3 connection only speeds up the transfer rate if that was where the bottle neck speed was - but it can be the read/write processes and speeds that are slower, not the USB connection (at least for a USB2 and above). The drive is about the same size as my older Western Digital 250GB extHDD (1/4th of the storage capacity) - as far as the metal part without the rubber cover. I really like that the rubber cover holds the cable securely in place. The metal connector is a lot bigger and wider than the connector for my older one. There was no data or apps on the drive. It arrives clean with all space available and ready to copy files to. The downloadable app is optional if you want some automated backup processing (which I would never use, so I'm glad it's an optional download).
Works great & looks great. I made the mistake and assumed this would be USB-C, thought everything now days would be USB-C. Doesn't say anywhere (apart from an image) That it is Micro-B.But it works, slow but it works.
Obviously people only evaluate the appearance here.This is a Toshiba hard disk (MQ04ABB400 series) with 5400RPM and 128MB cache size. The transfer rate is approx. 120MB/s+- at the beginning and decreases continuously and very fast, partly down to 240KB/s. The rate does not change much when trying a different USB 3.1 controller. Interestingly, the read and write rates for BTRFS and EXT4 are even worse than with NTFS and exFat.
Can't fault the supplier. This later model has a system that displays red on the activity indicator when there is something wrong. I was getting this a lot. I have 2 older Adata drives and they don't have this. In order to copy a folder with about 5,000 5 mb files, it was necessary to copy say, 200 files at a time. Any more than this and it would go dead slow and and it would flash red. I only thought of this because many years ago, on a Burroughs large system I had a similar problem and so I took the action I did and it worked OK. There is something not so good with this.
