I had AKG 240's years ago and was very happy with them. I prefer listening to music through speakers but it is not always possible. So, I bought these to use at those times when I need to consider others. These 701's are excellent to listen to. The sound dynamics are great, the imaging and separation are distinct and broad with clear crisp bass with the whole thing being light and comfortable. I still prefer my speakers but the AKG 701's are a welcome compromise.

The best sounding headphones I've ever owned. After recieving these headphones I initially thought they sounded flat and airy, however this was due to being used to lower grade drivers which are muddy at the lower end and tinny at the higher. Still however I prefer a boost to my lower frequencies which is easily done by most media players or amps. The headphones are rated at around 62 Ohms; thus they should be driveable by most devices, yet they sound much better when paired with an amp/dac combination. For any of you worried about not having a microphone, it pairs amazingly with the Antlion ModMic, there is no set position for said mic however I have placed one under and behind the removable input for the headphones, this allows the modmic to rotate up out of the ... Closing thoughts: Wish I knew about these earlier, amazing pair and one of the best purchases I have ever made.

I have gone through a lot of headphones in my time. These are the best I have ever had. Supremely comfortable I had them on for about 3 hours straight with no discomfort at all. The sound quality is fantastic. Great balance and clarity; nice bass but not too much. If you want to treat yourself (as I did) get a pair of these: you wont regret it.

One of three headphones in the 'Classic Trio' (Sennheiser HD600/650, Beyerdynamic DT880, AKG K701/702). It's the least popular of the three, but it's my favorite. I reach for the K701 more often than the Senns or the Beyers. Why? Because of the wide soundstage; listening to chamber music (like string quartets), orchestral music (like symphonies), or jazz is heavenly. Any music recorded with few microphones like those I mentioned is presented by the K701 with instruments placed where they belong, as though it were live, like you were there. Minor note: you may need to raise the low end from about 125hz. I equalize no other headphones I own. But don't let that stop you from trying them. Eqing the low end does little to no damage to the sound, since the human ear isn't ... MoreOne of three headphones in the 'Classic Trio' (Sennheiser HD600/650, Beyerdynamic DT880, AKG K701/702). Eqing the low end does little to no damage to the sound, since the human ear isn't very sensitive to nuances in the low frequencies. Get em. Try em with properly recorded acoustic music. I bet you like them. If not, you can always sell them for near what you originally paid if not the same price.
This headphone is super super neutral, and it almost feels some what tinny at first but once you begin listening more you will be astounded at the level of detail you are able to pick up as a result. I also thought that the weight was excellent.I have a large head though so the band may begin to hurt a bit. This version has a flat band on the top, so none of the controversial head bumps. Nonetheless, if you have a very large head the top may exert enough pressure to make your head sore. I loved them otherwise and have never been able to hear things around me in video games so clearly. Footstep detection gods and great detail retrieval, so if that's your thing get these!
Great Clarity, Separation of Instruments and super Airy, treble is enhance but just the right amount. Some said the base is lacking but I think it refer to the Austrian Production samples, when Herman (Samsung) bought out, I think they tweak the performance to improved the bass which is what I got and bass is clean and precise, off course its not going to compete with enclose headphone but very well done.
These headphones are very comfortable, they're lightweight and have a light clamp force but a nice texture on the earpads which helps them stay on very well. Overall I thought they would be more 'open' but that it only because I have come from a pair of Sony MDR MA-900 which literally have a slit in the rear of the earcup and you can't really beat that level of openness. So how's the sound quality? It's not bad by any margin but it has a slightly veiled sound in comparison to the Sony's just mentioned. I do enjoy the colour of them though and they're good enough for me to use for my gaming setup. I run these through a Yamaha AG03 and there is plenty of volume! In short I can't really say these are better in any way than my favourite pair of cans, the aforementined ... You know what though? These do feel less rickety but I put that down the to fact that they're fresh out of the box.
I got this on a deal. K701 is obviously one of the most nice-looking headphones on the market, but it might feel cheap by today's standards when you pick it up since it's mostly plastic. On the other hand, it is very light and comfortable to wear, even for long periods of time.In terms of sound quality and particularly frequency response, it has nice mids and accentuated highs, which might not be fully accurate but still pleasant to listen to nonetheless. It does feel like it lacks in the bass, though, which could be a problem for some people depending on which types of music they like. For me personally, an EQ with moderately boosted bass is enough to solve the problem completely. (I use SoundID by Sonarworks; you can also try AutoEq and the like.)Overall, K701 ... Despite the many great reviews and recommendations, these headphones are unsuitable for mixing and monitoring. They produce an incorrect soundscape. They are not neutral or flat for professional purposes. The trebles are sparkling and emphasized, and bass frequencies weaker than they should be. The fatal flaw is that they will cause you to boost frequencies that will dominate other important frequencies that provide clarity and definition. When mixing with these headphones, you could create what sounds incredibly beautiful, but once you play the same music on professional studio monitors or even hifi speakers, everything will be badly muffled. Your music will be destroyed! The only thing I found them to be good for due to their emphasis on treble frequencies, is ... Your music will be destroyed! The only thing I found them to be good for due to their emphasis on treble frequencies, is identifying any occurrence of clipping and unwanted noise from recordings that you would tend to miss using studio monitoring speakers.
These headphones sound amazing, very natural and super detailed-you wont miss even the smallest detail of any recording. They cover the full frequency spectrum in a very balanced way. Do not expect to hear gigantic bass...these are reference grade studio quality-not Doctor Beats...my ears ;). They do love power, ideally you use them with a good headphone amp, hence the 1/4 banana plug. However, you can directly plug them into your phone or ipad with an3 .5mm adapter. Only downside is their open architecture means people around can hear as well what you are rocking out to...not ideal for air plane travels.
