I purchased the product due to the favorable price at the time and the need for the 3900X as a hand-me-down upgrade on a secondary system. I was expecting a more modest performance lift: 15% - 25% under most applications, 10% - 35% under highly threaded applications, perhaps as high as 50% in some standout games with most being significantly lower. Keep in mind that this is not scientific. There was no clean installation of software or the likes. I just swapped out the processor and started testing. My working theory as to why the results differ somewhat (lower single threaded, higher multi-threaded) from reviews I've read is that, with my custom water loop, the difference in frequency for a single thread was less than expected (the 3900X boosted a little higher than normal) where the difference in frequency for multiple threads was higher than expected.

But it is that buttery smooth experience that you cannot explain on paper, nor run any test programs to measure a noticeable gain. And I think far too many times, we come to compare stats on paper without considering the "user experience". Many reviews on this cpu come to the conclusion that it is not that much quicker in gaming when compared to its little brother, the 5600x. But I guarantee you, that 5600x will have the occasional micro-stutters, or it takes a few extra seconds to install a program.Basically, my point is that most people will not need this level of performance and if you are strictly on a budget, a 5600x is your best bet. For example, imagine owning a normal, economic car vs. a high end luxury car. Both will get you from point A to point B. I'd even go as far to say that they'll probably get you there in similar times. In terms of transportation, they both will do the job. However, the luxury car will just do it in comfort, and it's just nice to be in one isn't it. Similarly, the 5900x is that luxury bracket, the user experience is what you get with 12 cores :)

I ordered this on a Friday, and it was scheduled to arrive on the following Tuesday, but it instead arrived on Monday - I was incredibly happy with this.I did a lot of research before buying this CPU, and it has proven to be exactly what the reviews (GamersNexus) had demonstrated it would be. Incredible for gaming, awesome for productivity, cost effective and low on the temperature range too!I buy and rip & compress Blu Ray movies - this cut the compression time in half versus the 5600x CPU that I had previously. The 5600x would average 14fps, whereas the 5900x averages 28fps. Incredible for gaming, awesome for productivity, cost effective and low on the temperature range too!I buy and rip & compress Blu Ray movies - this cut the compression time in half versus the 5600x CPU that I had previously. The 5600x would average 14fps, whereas the 5900x averages 28fps. B&H is the best electronics and photo/video retailer on the East Coast, and definitely one of the best in the entire United States.I live in NJ, and I literally received this through free expedited shipping on the very next day, before 10:30 AM.I have never in my entire life received an item this fast from any retailer in the USA. The box didn't have a single mark on it because it was meticulously packed for safety.Ultra-fast CPU, fit perfectly into my almost 3 year old ASROCK - B450m pro4. Impressive CPU

Went from a 3600x to this. Prior system config had a number of issues, some were known causes (5700xt + PCIe gen 4, looking at you). With new setup, there were improvements across the board. Everything is smoother and faster.Used primarily for gaming and photo editing, I was a little surprised at the improvement it brought to gaming. The fps improved noticeably, but more importantly everything also became smoother, fewer stutters and moments of lower frame count. I don't think the 3600x should have been bottlenecking anything on the prior configuration. It was hard to justify at the prices when released, but once it dropped below 400 after the 5800x3d cpu came out, I couldn't pass it up. It should last me some years before I feel the need to jump to the new socket. If you're already on AM4 this is easily worth it, but if you need a full new system and can wait a bit, it might be better to get the newer gen socket when it comes out.

I used this CPU in a computer that was primarily used for software development and some gaming. Either way, this CPU crushed every workload I threw at it without much of a problem. It might not be the best CPU for gaming, but it's pretty good.The only problem I have with it (and is something I was at least partially aware of when I purchased it) is that it gets hot and takes a good cooler to keep it cool. Even then, expect to hear the fans fire up regularly when doing any kind of work or gaming. It's not the end of the world, but it can be a bit annoying when on calls or even during the course of the day to hear the fans constantly ramping up and down. Love my Ryzen 9. I was a little curious about AMD, because in the past they had been slower, but not anymore. I think they've been pretty good since 3 series, and really good here in the 5th series. I'm not sure what more next gen processors do, but this one does all I need it to do and fast! Anything local to my drive comes up instantly. I use it to game and for productivity, whether video editing or image editing, zero issues, even though those are done in large part with the graphics card. I've had a billion windows and videos open and no stutter. It just barrels through it all. I'm can't get technical on the cores and threads, because I'm not that deep in PC language, but like I said, it handles everything I do and fast. For someone who isn't that savy, building a PC isn't hard and I encourage you to try as long as you know your build specs, can find the software for your components and are at least a little mechanically inclined, you can use youtube for guidance. Don't waste money on prebuilds, use pcpartspicker dot com and build one. You get to choose the quality of all the parts in your build, not just the ones with the flashy specs the pre-builts draw you in with. It theirs is cheap, they cheaped out somewhere, like the RAM, PSU, motherboard, storage drive, case or fans. They just show you a decent processor, flashy graphics card and high amount of RAM, but a cheap foundation will rear its ugly head eventually. I'm not sure why the rant, but nevertheless, consider building your own. If anything it's cathartic and great to learn.

WOW! for 400 bucks you cant beat this processor at this Price for an AMD upgrade, great for multitasking and Gaming!HUGE upgrade from the 3600x and you can use it on older boards like the x470 and it works great! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!Really this is a no brainer! If you get this you wont need to upgrade for years and let the new generation of processors coming out work out the bugs. The current price is less than the 5800X at its launch, and $30 more than the 5600X when it first launched. If you still have AM4, you can probably plop this thing into your motherboard for a massive upgrade (you may need a BIOS update though). I can say for sure that I do not plan on switching to a new processor any time soon. Really, I don't need to with the 5900X in my system.
