Whether you're a student looking for a reliable machine or a software developer looking for an on-the-go companion notebook, the Apple MacBook Air 2020 is still a great laptop in late 2022.PROS:Display: 13.3" Apple Retina display (2560 x 1600)Apple's retina display has been a selling point for the MacBook line for years, and this computer is no exception. On screen text is polished, out-of-the-box color accuracy is phenomenal, and the resolution is stunning---at an impressive 227 pixels per inch. This portable laptop is more than suited for content streaming, supporting FHD video @ 60hz. Operating System: macOSAs a computer developer, I work routinely in Windows, macOS, and several Linux distributions. In my opinion, macOS is the best operating system for the most people due to its versatility. It has a user-friendly GUI that feels smooth and crisp, making it accessible for even the most inexperienced computer users (my 80yo grandpa can use a mac no problem). At the same time, macOS takes full advantage of its roots as a UNIX operating system and provides an excellent terminal shell CLI in zsh. With developer tools enabled and the homebrew package manager, the macOS CLI feels quite familiar for those used to Linux CLIs. From computer geeks to grandparents, macOS is a great operating system for a wide variety of users. PerformanceI was skeptical of Apple's decision to move away from Intel processors at first, but I think the performance this Mac offers indicates that they made the right call. The Apple M1 SoC provides the power necessary for a wide array of applications. Programming on my Mac feels seamless, and for more than a year this computer was my primary machine for software development. I also create music using Logic Pro X, and the 16GB RAM model I own can run it no problem. The integrated graphics are surprisingly good, supporting tasks like content creation and gaming (I was able to consistently get 150fps in Minecraft with the default settings). Don't let the size fool you: this computer packs a punch.Portablility:The MacBook Air is advertised as being a portable system that can be used anywhere, and that has been true in my experience. Even after nearly two years, my computer's battery is at 93% of its original capacity and lasts for the entire day. From a full charge, I have programmed for 8 hours before needing to plug my computer in. Physically speaking, it is lightweight and compact when folded. Unlike my heftier ultrabook laptops, this computer is quite easy to tote around from place to place. I also personally like the feel and layout of the keyboard, and I prefer it to the updated keyboards on the newer Mac models. CONSPorts: Two Thunderbolt / USB-C 4 Ports and a headphone jackThis is my greatest issue with this laptop. While most machines come with at least a couple of USB ports, an SD card slot, an ethernet port and an HDMI port, this laptop lacks all of the above. The laptop used a USB-C charger, so while charging access is limited to strictly one port. In order to get the most out of this machine, you need to buy a separate type-c dongle that adds these extra ports externally.

If you want to experience significant upgrades in an apple computer, then the MacBook Air with the M1 chip is definitely the one to buy. It's one of the fastest and most cost-efficient choices for a computer where technology has come together to create a tremendous change in experience for laptop computer users. Between Apple's proprietary M1 chip that is fanless, solid state hard drive, retina screen display and upgraded sound system, an incredibly extended battery life before the need to recharge and much more, the new apple technology literally constitutes the wave of the future. The overall performance enhancements clearly put you in the driver's seat and establish considerable measurable distance from the previous evolution of computing in general. ... The overall performance enhancements clearly put you in the driver's seat and establish considerable measurable distance from the previous evolution of computing in general. Literally every detail has been given attention to improvements with the end-user constantly in mind. Speed of processing is near instantaneous and regardless of software program complexity, the MacBook Air M1 simply sets it all in motion at blistering speeds. While some complain that apple products are costly, the advantages of becoming part of the apple technology environment makes it worth every penny. The seamlessness between apple products is yet again another favorable feature and whether for business or pleasure, you'll find yourself able to be completely connected throughout your array of apple devices. They've literally captured the market in our opinion because their focus upon technology and consumer needs is unparalleled by the competition. It's very safe to say that switching to the apple family of products means never having to look back because the company is constantly taking its consumers forward at an ever faster pace. You should also be on the lookout for the new M2 processing chip and related products that will be driven by it, many of which are projected to be out sometime this year. Very frankly, the experience of using our apple products on a daily basis is one that we look forward to with the complete confidence that we're interfacing with the technology around us using the best possible assets. We just purchased two MacBook Air M1 computers and the new iOS Mac iPad with the M1 chip. Together with our other apple products, we've moved well forward to the cutting edge of features and technology that we seek as consumers. Apple truly has assembled a winning team that has surrounded itself with a business model to produce absolute premier computers and other apple products capable of defining innovation in a way no other company can achieve. Throughout our entire experience with apple products since 2011, we've never once encountered problems. Not once, and it represents a shining example of quality control, attention to detail and the constant look well forward into what consumers need most in technology and reliability. Based upon our experience, just as Microsoft had taken the market by storm with windows very early on, Apple is well on its way to completely ruling the computer and communications environment because it not only continues to surprise and satisfy with the latest technology but also the most innovative as well. Without any hesitation, we grant apple products 5 stars.

I have been a Mac fan since the early 1990's. This laptop (MBPro 14", with M1 Pro chip, 16 GB DRAM and 1 TB SSD) is VERY fast, with excellent battery life and great portability. Build quality is as you would expect for a $2k system, very high. The display is gorgeous with great aspect ratio, keyboard is excellent, speakers are great, etc. The only slight nit is it seems a bit heavier and thicker than it needs to be, but really it is as close to perfect as you get.I have been using computers since the 1980's and MacOS has always been easier to use than most alternatives. I administer many Windows 7/10/11 systems and Windows Server 2019/2022 systems for work, but prefer MacOS for my personal workstation. I administer many Windows 7/10/11 systems and Windows Server 2019/2022 systems for work, but prefer MacOS for my personal workstation. You literally could not pay me enough to use ANY other OS for my personal system. I have been using Unix since before Linux even existed (early 1980s), DOS before Windows existed, etc. There has never been an OS that is as reliable, easy to use while also supporting virtually every application you could ever need as MacOS.As an aside, I have tried running LogicProX with 20 - 30 plugins, etc and this sysem didn't even start breathing hard. I also have a Mac Studio for home use, and although that system has the M1 Max CPU with 32 GB of RAM, I don't see much difference between the performance of the systems. There are few workloads this laptop cannot handle.
I've had this laptop for 2.5 years and the system works good , I used it for Photoshop, Lightroom, and school so it does a good job there, but the thing thats so irritating is that its not built to last. The sensors between thee screen and keyboard are really delicate I've had to already replace it, which is about $600. And the keyboard design is terrible after a while-- even with cleaning and using air cans-- dust gets in the keyboard and the keyboard beings to act up by repeating letters, adding "." randomly, and adding. random numbers while you are typing. I've just had it with this model and poor design. To replace the keyboard will probably be $600-800, and at that point you might as well invest in a new laptop. Pros: Great MacBook Pro. Can easily run Final Cut Pro, Compressor, Motion and Photoshop just fine. If you’re doing professional video production like I am, no need to upgrade 512gb as you can just work of an external drive. It can run games great and no lag. The 720p FaceTime HD camera is not the best. For some reason Apple has upgraded their other laptops with the 1080p camera whereas this laptop they have not. If you’re just using the camera for video calls then no need to worry! Screen is great, battery life is pretty good for what I use it for. The M2 chip is faster but not a massive improvement from the M1 model. The body is the same so no change on the outside but Apple has changed the inside with the new M2 chip. The touch bar is great! Overall, great laptop, very impressed. 9.5/10
First off, I am very impressed with the quality of this product. It came in the Apple Certified Refurbished box and that alone told me that this is the genuine product. The product looks and feels brand new. You can never tell that this is a refurbished product. Second, the delivery time is top-notch. I only ordered 2 days ago and have already got the product on my hand. Third, the price is just unmatched. I found the exact same product on Apple official refurbished website and it is at least $200 more expensive. I don't write reviews on products I bought that often but this item made want to spread my words. I was a bit skeptical about all the positive reviews at first because this is still a pretty big investment. But it was honestly very worth it. If you're in ... I purchased this computer when it came time to replace my 8-year-old MacBook. This version is definitely lighter and thinner than my old model, giving it a more modern and sleek look. I also appreciate the larger hard drive - after almost a decade with my old computer, I quickly ran out of storage space, even with regular external drive backups. Thus, I definitely recommend having at least 512 GB of hard drive space. Functionality is very similar to my previous unit.Although I knew that this computer did not have any standard USB ports when I purchased it, I do miss having those available, especially for backing up to my external hard drive. I also liked the magnetic connection on the old charging cable, so I miss that as well. Finally, the touch screen bar at the ... Finally, the touch screen bar at the top of the keyboard is interesting, but I'm not sure I understand the point of it. It's fine for adjusting brightness and volume, but I'm confused about when else I would use it.Overall, this computer was definitely a step up from my old one in terms of looks and especially storage, which was important to me, but there are a few things about my old unit that I miss.
What can I say, I love Apple computers. This is my 7th Mac laptop, my 5th MacBook Pro since 2010, and my 28th Mac since my first 128K Mac in 1984. My very first laptop Mac was the Wall Street model in about 1998, and what a dinosaur it was compared to this one! I've had all these Macs, and not a one ever died, so I fully expect the same longevity from this new one. Apple computers don't fail quickly, and you end up having to upgrade because of the OS/processors and lack of support after a certain time. I'm still regularly using a 2010 MB Pro 17", but now have issues as the OS is no longer supported by Apple. But everything still works!I bought the 16" MB Pro two years ago (Intel chip), and this one with the M1 chip actually doesn't seem appreciably different or ... I'm still regularly using a 2010 MB Pro 17", but now have issues as the OS is no longer supported by Apple. But everything still works!I bought the 16" MB Pro two years ago (Intel chip), and this one with the M1 chip actually doesn't seem appreciably different or faster or better for my uses except I do think the battery life is noticeably better than either my 16" MB Pro or the 2016 MBPro 13" I also have. I probably would have chosen the new 14" MB Pro but it wasn't in stock anywhere when I purchased and since I got a too good to pass up price match on this one due to Christmas sales, I don't really regret not buying the 14, which would have been $700 more. Everything works great as expected, no surprises, setup was a breeze, so far Big Sur OS is good and has no issues. Beautiful display, the lighted keyboard is great, and I actually quite like the Touch Bar, which was oddly eliminated on the new 14" models. The sound is excellent, although I compared it with the 14" MacBook Pro and the latter had a bit richer sound with slightly louder sound levels. However, this one is no slouch and has very good sound that is far better than my older 13" Mac and not quite as good as my 16". The main negative is that it only has only two USB-C ports, whereas the 14" has more ports, an SDS card reader slot, plus the wonderful magnetic power cord is back again. On this 13" M1, the USB power connection via USB-C is pretty poor and the plug comes out too easily and almost seems loose. I decided I could live with just the two slots because I had no problem with my older 13" MB Pro with two slots.I really miss the old days when I could later add extra memory or swap out a drive myself (last time I did this was on a 2013 MB Air, but these days you have to predict when you purchase how much RAM and the disk size you will need as these things are not changeable. I got the 8GB RAM and 512GB drive, although I would have preferred more RAM and a 1TB drive. However, for what I use this particular Mac for, this configuration is undoubtedly fine and the extra RAM and disk space will never be an issue for me. I've read that the Apple M1 chip utilizes memory much more efficiently, and also helps with battery life. I can definitely say the battery life is far better than my 2016 MBPro 13" (Intel chip). I do love the thin profile and very light weight of this model, and overall it's a great little Mac for sure. For most uses, no one would ever be disappointed in this wonderful, beautiful, sleek machine. Love the space gray color, too!
Generally a laptop is a laptop but this has feature that I wouldn't want to ever be without. It's the Touch Bar. Whatever you are doing on the laptop, the Touch Bar illuminates with quick link and highly visible options appertaining to it. For example if you are on your photos, they appear along the slide bar, so you can touch them. If you are writing, spelling suggestions appear, you just touch the word. My favourite is zoom meeting. Of course you can use a mouse to guide the cursor but it's so much quicker and user friendly to just touch the bar, to adjust the sound, camera & microphone. When you've finished a big red box appears on the Touch Bar saying "end meeting". Touch in a second and your off. I like the fact the lid can almost be shut but it just suspends ...
