I got this Max Mini after taking the 10% discount through BNPL with Very. I’m happy with that for the price. This is a superb upgrade for me from the MacBook Pro 2014. I use this to edit my YouTube videos and research. I understand there was a lot of people worried about the 8GB of ram but as a novice editor it seems to do me well. I understand it has unified memory so I keep my SD clean and do all my editing directly to a connected by thunderbolt external SSD which seems to work like a charm and keep it running smooth. I would just getting a MacBook Air M1 or iMac M1 if you need to purchase all the extras but if you are like me and have a second monitor and keyboard to spare then May as well save yourself the money and get this. One thing I noticed is my partner bought the i7 iMac (think it’s 2019/20) with 64GB of ram and a dedicated graphics card (not sure the brand) but I find this Mac mini is literally processing even faster while using final cut which for me is all I needed it for. So if you only need apple tools then I double recommend this desktop.

Had to finally upgrade my 2009 iMac and decided to go with a Mac Mini. It's a great computer. I did purchase a USB hub for it since it only has two USB ports and I needed more than that. Works great and has great speed and features. B&H had the best deal out there from a reputable company - I wanted to avoid purchasing from some 3rd party refurbisher. The Mac Mini is such a great computer and has more than I need. No problem finding a great monitor to use with it. Lots of great recommendations online and I found a great LG monitor on sale for well under $200. I use the Mac Mini for recording music and it works great! Highly recommend it.

My computer for the last 10 years has been a 2011 Mac Mini which served me very well. It was time for an upgrade as I could no longer upgrade the OS and various of my programs. Also being a senior citizen I'm on a budget. So when I saw this 2018 Mini with Core i3, 3.6 GHz and 128GB SSD at a reasonable price I jumped in. Not being a techie I'm a little challenged in set up and so forth, but it turned out to be very simple to load my files from my back-up Time Machine drive. My problem came when I tried to upgrade from Mohave the system it came with to Big Sur. After two hours of loading in the software, it told me I didn't have enough room to install! Yikes, what now. They were extremely helpful and enabled me to compress and delete extraneous files to free up space. Big Sur (System 11) then installed seamlessly and the system runs like a top. I'm very pleased. It will serve me well. I would advise heavier users than me to get a bigger SSD drive or plan to buy a much cheaper external drive if you're a gamer or video editor as the 128GB version won't be enough for your needs. I love my Mini!

As shipped, it was out of the box and working perfectly in about ten minutes, and does everything I need. I do video editing very rarely, and that is slow slow slow, but I deliberately chose the cheapest model as I was computer free, and needed a browsing entertainment and comms device. Since for me entertainment does not include gaming, this was perfect and thousands or more cheaper than replacing my stolen laptop with a similar machine. The machine exceeded all my expectations in fact, running faster and faulting less than I assumed a decade old computer would do. It reminded me that there is a very important wisdom to the phrases 'good enough', 'fit for purpose', or even 'this will get me by'. None of these are criticisms of the machine, and in fact, I have been ... MoreAs shipped, it was out of the box and working perfectly in about ten minutes, and does everything I need. It reminded me that there is a very important wisdom to the phrases 'good enough', 'fit for purpose', or even 'this will get me by'. None of these are criticisms of the machine, and in fact, I have been reminded that I have little use for a laptop. In fact, the Mac mini is easily bundled with the cables and peripherals and connected to another screen. Maybe 5 minutes to get it running vs 3 minutes for a laptop? People look at you oddly when you set it up in the study areas at school, But probably because they have MacBook pros their parents paid for, and I had a spare monitor and a little box on wheels with a handle that fits my books and bright yellow extension cord. So a collection of leftovers from the past decade solved a very real problem, for very little money. I've only needed to trundle it all to school twice, to the considerable amusement of the instructor on the first occasion. The only reason my view is not a 5 is that when I installed a large hard drive with a kit from OWC, one tiny little connector, which controls the infrared remote, crumbled. Fortunately it works fine, as long as you need neither the flickering LED light, nor the remote. Until I was sure of this, I was horrified that I had possible destroyed the machine. To any installing drives, carefully study and ensure you're prying the right thing, I'm sure a more careful person would have completed the upgrade without issue.

Incredible computing power for mid-level computer price

The Mac Mini with the new Apple M1 silicon inside it, is a really excellent computer for the money, especially if you already have a monitor, keyboard and mouse. It's processing power is quite amazing for such a small and relatively inexpensive machine, although I would definitely recommend paying the extra for the model with the larger 16GB memory, in order to get the best performance out of the incredible M1 chip when you're running multiple tasks - especially more memory-intensive tasks. I wish they had offered 32GB or 64GB configurations but I guess that Apple might worry about cannibalizing its high-end market. One tip if you already have another Apple machine like an iMac (as I do) is that you do not need a second monitor for the mini if you are running it on the same network. You can just use Apple's screen sharing feature. The only things you need for this arrangement to work optimally are a switchable keyboard and a screen emulation dongle to put in the mini's HDMI port so that you have access to higher resolutions than the default Unknown Display resolution that is the only option offered if you have no display plugged into the mini. Then you can really run your mini in headless mode and use the same keyboard and mouse to switch between the two machines.

M2 Mac Mini is a Giant - PRICE and SPEED
6 March 2023

I bought high-end iMacs all my life, however, ever since working remotely I switched to Windows with company laptop but other commitments kept me updating my iMac computer due to out-dated hardware/software incompatibilities. This time I decided to adopt the mac-mini and I am beyond satisfied. All my window peripherals work seamlessly, all my external storage devices mount properly. Also, I bought a HDMI 4K video switch to toggle my 37inch monitor between mac and windows it just works great. I added a 5 USB hub and suits me best. Performance is second to none, for less than half the cost of a iMac, you just cant buy anything out there that can match it, M2 chip is a total winner. I highly recommend it without any reservation.

My Wife Likes It
7 February 2023

Setup was eventful. The previous monitor cord from the 2012 Mac Mini could not resolve the video signal from the M2. It was a cable that converted the signal to HDMI. Therefore the set up was very difficult due to the crazy colors displayed on the monitor. So I had to go out and purchase a new monitor (HP). This worked fine and it made the setup easy. I then moved all of my wife's applications and files from a time machine backup of her old Mac Mini to the M2. This took several hours to accomplish, but she was very happy to see the desktop and everything looking exactly as her old mac. She says it is very speedy when starting up, and when opening applications. She says it is very speedy when starting up, and when opening applications. She very happy with the fact that websites she likes to frequent now open correctly as opposed to the 11 year old Safari Browser she was using. As far as I can tell she is quite happy with the new M2 based on zero complaints so far. She did comment on losing some of the applications she used to use. Apparently they were even too old for Rosetta Stone to deal with, but I did warn her of this before purchasing the M2. As for myself I am not really happy with only 2 USB ports. On is used by the keyboard and fortunately the keyboard has two ports on it so the cordless mouse uses one of those. For the Time Machine drive, SD Card Reader, and camera interface I had to install a USB hub in the remaining USB Port. There are Thunderbolt to USB hubs, but so far the setup is working fine, so the two Thunderbolt ports remain unused. I have never found anything that gets 5 stars, so four stars to me indicates that the M2 does everything we expected it to do, and there are no complaints, so far.

Perfect Little Mac!

I've always wanted to try Mac and this little machine is excellent! Coming from Windows, there was a learning curve to use the Macintosh System, but overall I'm loving it. It really is a space saving machine and user friendly. When it comes to RAM (Random Access Memory), Mac uses RAM a little bit differently than Windows does. For probably 90% of people, the 8GB of RAM is great for most applications. It should handle schoolwork, email, streaming, and light video editing. (NOTE: I personally don't regularly edit videos) If you are planning on doing heavy video/photo editing, or even gaming (Windows is probably better equipped for gaming) you might want to consider the 16GB or 32GB RAM version of the Mac Mini. Just purchased and really enjoying. Not sure where you can buy a desktop computer better yet a Mac with an M2 for $599 that has this amount of power. I purchased an LG ultrafine 27 inch monitor and the set up is beautiful. For daily task, emails, YouTube, browsing the web it is smooth as butter. I did try some games that used decent graphics and it handled it perfect. I edited multiple 4k videos, had tabs running in the background and saw no hiccup what so ever. Unless you are some company or professional needing every inch of power there is no need for the m2 pro which is over $1000 more?! Makes no sense. Buy this. It will handle 99% of the things an average person will throw at it plus some. Again find a better deal for a mac or a windows computer with this amount ... MoreJust purchased and really enjoying. As a side note I did try my own stress on it, trying to make it hiccup or lag and couldn’t with what I threw at it. LOVE IT! And with the m2 chip you can have a peace of mind knowing you will have updates for many years to come to get your $599 worth.

I migrated my recording studio workflow form a 2012 Mac Pro running Mojave to this M1 Mac mini. Since I remember very well the last Rosetta-based transition, I expected issues both in performance and stability. There were a few interesting moments during the installation but overall, it's been very smooth, at least for me. Logic is my main DAW but Pro Tools sees its share of use as well. Both are running fine. UAD plugins are running fine. I did have to switch Logic to run in Rosetta mode even though it is a native app. The reason being all the third party plugins and VI's. Hey, it's not perfect but it works and I'm not seeing a big performance hit. In fact, things like Omnisphere are running way faster than on the old Mac Pro. Hey, it's not perfect but it works and I'm not seeing a big performance hit. In fact, things like Omnisphere are running way faster than on the old Mac Pro. Overall, patience is key in this transitional period. Apple has done a great job smoothing out Rosetta 2 and allowing us a reasonable level of performance. This little box actually rocks! Now, when they come with the M1X or M2 I feel like I'll be on board there as well if only for the extra horsepower. Honestly though, to this point I haven't begun to see anything resembling a stressful load on this system. If we are all being honest, how many of us actually NEED Mac Pro-level horsepower? Consider this thing if your system, like mine, needed upgrading and you just couldn't wait anymore. I recommend it without hesitation especially to more experienced users. BTW, if all you run is Logic and it's supplied plugins then you will be up and running in no time with zero issues.
