I bought this Apple TV a while ago and use it occasionally. It has a sleek design and an intuitive interface. Navigating through apps and content is so easy. The 32 GB storage is enough for most users, it allows you to download a decent number of apps and games. Connectivity-wise, it performed well on my home network. Switching between apps was smooth, with minimal lag (better than other options, including my preferred option). However, for those looking for the latest and greatest features or 4K resolution, this model might feel a bit dated, not the best performance. I use it only to watch shows on streaming channels and this is perfect for that. The speed and responsiveness are great!

The Apple TV works as expected. It comes with a decent set of apps. I got primarily for the fitness app so I can use it in a big screen tv. Little did I know that the app requires that the users have to have an apple watch to use. It doesn’t requires an Apple Watch to use the app on the iPhone but the apple tv requires it, which is really annoying. It took two days for me to connect the watch to the Apple TV because of some software update issue. But that’s not the most annoying part of the Apple TV, the most annoying part is the remote control. It’s sensitive when it doesn’t have to but when I need it to response, it doesn’t. When I try to unpause a show, it would detect my finger because I manage to press but the button and fast forward from where I paused. ... MoreThe Apple TV works as expected. I only got it to use the fitness app, I wouldn’t get it for the sole purpose of watching movie/shows

I wish the remote was easier to pick up. I think I'll add adhesive backed pads so I can get a better grip on it. In an effort to miniaturize, Apple did a great job. But, ergonomically, not so much. I've never seen a TV remote so small. There are no instructions that explain the remote functions - you need to figure that out for yourself. The "swipe" pad is extremely sensitive and it's easy to over-shoot channels, so you need to slow WAY down. Despite those drawbacks, everyone knows Apple engineers can be counted on to produce a product that excels in a quality build.

Apple-TV evolution, for better or worse...

Though I have no idea how the seller ended-up with 2 different generation remotes for this Apple-TV, I was pleased to see I could get either remotes to work without issue. It helps that this Apple's line of product has adopted a fairly consistent configuration process since its infancy. I was already using the gen 3 (which this one replaced) and the gen 4 Apple TV models, so I was already familiar with its operation. The Gen 3 model wouldn't allow me to add/install new apps such as Crave. I went with this 5th gen model rather than the 4th gen like I already had in anticipation of starting using 4K streaming. My only disappointment in the product line is the disappearance of the audio optical hookup/coupling (present on models prior to gen 4) I enjoyed using with my home theatre amplifier setup - the reason I was still keeping on using the gen 3 model to begin with. To my ear, having the audio fed over the HDMI hookup, has diminished the sound quality of the playback. That said, I do know that most people, my wife included, wouldn't readily recognize the difference. I have started to appreciate the ability to pair AirPods to the Apple-TV (really started at the gen 4 model), and the voice control capability (of the gen 6 remote) I did not have before. The voice control simplifies doing searches immensely. AirPlay, allowing to broadcast sessions from various external devices, does seem to be operating more reliably on this gen 5 model. There are more features I have yet to discover, but thus far, I am pleased with my decision to adopt this gen 5 Apple-TV.

I'm not an Apple fan, but this Device is clearly very high quality with a clean interface (sure, some things can be done even better) that helps me track what I am watching over multiple services. I've read that the previous generation has lasted eight years for people who bought them at the start. Since I additionally watch streams that need to be upscaled on my end due to bandwidth limitations at the source, I can attest that this little, cool, silent box does an excellent job upscaling content from a lower bitrate as well.I do wish the on/activity white LED in front could be entirely disabled: unless I am missing the option to do so, I will resort to a piece of black electrical tape to fix that. The quality clearly stands above that of the other devices like ... MoreI'm not an Apple fan, but this Device is clearly very high quality with a clean interface (sure, some things can be done even better) that helps me track what I am watching over multiple services. Apple's products may be overpriced, but you're getting what you pay for with the competition. The lack of ads, suggestions, and honoring my privacy choices mean I'm happy to have purchased this unit and will continue to purchase these as needs arise.

I already have a Roku but this really surprised me. There's 2 main differences for me personally. The remote makes all the difference. It's the same aluminum finish as an iPhone and the touchpad makes everything faster. The remote size if perfect, looking back on the Roku it was like holding a brick. I didn't realize this remote would make such a difference. If you're already in the Apple ecosystem you can pair your Airpods with the touch of a button on the remote. There is a power button on the remote and it turns my TV off and on the same time it does the device.

Worth every pound!

Prior to my purchase it was difficult to understand just why the Apple TV 4K box was so much more expensive than any other option with same kind of features. I already owned a Fire TV 4K stick which on paper can do everything that one of these can. But I recently upgraded my home cinema set-up to include a Dolby Atmos sound system and wanted to be able to take advantage of the Atmos enabled programming on Netflix and Amazon Prime and that's where things get tricky as only a few devices actually provide the Atmos signal from these services. Even TV's and streaming devices (such as the Amazon Fire Stick) that are Dolby Atmos capable do not provide the Atmos signal on Netflix and Prime. Apparently in Netflix's case at least this is due to them getting paid by certain manufacturers to use Atmos for their devices. Out of my set-up the only device I have that allowed Dolby Atmos from the Netflix app is my Xbox One X and that's not a device I want to use on a daily basis for watching TV on. So I purchased the Apple TV 4K 32GB box (the internal storage is purely for apps so not much point buying the 64GB version as its unlikely most people will ever install that many apps to need it) and replaced the Fire TV 4K stick in my set-up with it. Now you might find when first loading up Netflix that it still appears that Dolby Atmos isn't working - for some reason you need to start playing a Dolby Atmos enable program and then the Dolby Atmos content will start being identified by the Dolby Atmos logo on the program details. The sound and video quality of anything you stream is superb. I find that Netflix and Prime streams look better through this than the same apps on other devices. So for the purpose I bought it for I am more than happy but an unexpected surprise is everything else. It's such a nice interface that brings together all your streaming platforms and apps into one interface and actually then pulls programmes to continue and suggestions on what to watch next along with content you have purchased through iTunes onto a front page. It's like a TV guide for every possible content you use and makes it so easy to continue watching the things you love across various different platforms. Another surprise was the great value of the movies in the iTunes Store. Most films are much cheaper than through other platforms and a lot of the content now includes Dolby Atmos sound and 4K HDR video and if you purchase something that doesn't currently have these features you automatically get upgraded to the best version if they add those features at a later date. With the latest movies between 9.99 to 13.99 in 4K HDR Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos sound its a great alternative to 25 4K HDR Blu-ray Discs. Obviously the quality on a 4K Blu-ray Disc will always be superior to a stream for many films the difference wouldn't be noticeable unless played side by side and its a cheaper way to get 4K HDR with Dolby Atmos for the films you want a decent version of but don't need to own an expensive disc for. The remote you get is a stunner. Tiny, slim and typically Apple. Includes a built in Mic and you can use Siri to search across your platforms to find content. When you do search for content maybe surprisingly the Apple TV will always priorities the Free or Cheaper options first even if that costs Apple a sale through iTunes. It's great as you know you can trust the search results and won't then find it cheaper elsewhere. I can't really comment on the gaming features as I haven't tried them yet but there are also games in the App Store that you can buy and play. Many just using the included remote and some that you need to buy a compatible gamepad for - the good news there is they are adding in support for Xbox and PS4 pads soon so if you already own one of these you don't have to spend money on a new pad. In summary I absolutely love this box, the image and sound quality are the best I have found on any streaming device, the interface is like most Apple interfaces, just perfect, simple, functional and attractive and the build and design of the device and remote itself is again typically Apple, modern, simple and stylish. It's not cheap by any means but it's worth the money.

[Rewarded Review] Missing Accessories
20 January 2023

This product was delivered and the Apple TV itself is in good condition...looks brand new per your website listing. The package DID NOT INCLUDE a remote control or a power cord. Why is that? The photo on your website shows a remote control and the item description says the product, "Includes all original parts/accessories." Where are the remote control and power cord? It's mostly worthless without those items and the listing said they'd be included. There's risk in buying a reconditioned product but I trusted Best Buy. I never thought those important accessories would be left out when your listing told me that they would be included. You left them out and that's all under your control!Otherwise it's a great Apple product...that requires those accessories to work.
