I took a risk on Arlo years ago when they just came out with their first security cameras and have never looked back. In my opinion, Arlo has one of the best, if not the best, wireless security camera system on the market that is actually affordable and continues to make strides in the market setting the bar for other companies to try to keep up. First off, I was pleased to see they now make a camera that lasts about a year without a charge and it’s surprising they were able to do this considering it also has a very bright spotlight. You will immediately know how they made this possible once you open the box as the camera itself is about twice the length of their normal wireless cameras making room for a much larger battery. That was one of my issues over the years from their other cameras is that I would have to pull some of them down that weren’t wired to a power source to charge them. Potentially not having to charge this camera in a year is music to my ears. The other thing I am pleased to see with this camera is you do not need an Arlo Hub to connect it to your account, you can do it through your wireless network and smart phone app. The camera was very simple to set up through the app after you create an account; I added our new Essential XL camera to our existing system of five cameras within a minute or two. I installed it under the roof pointing at our boat parked in our driveway which works great; previously I had a camera and separate spot light and I was able to consolidate both into this one and relocate the old camera and spotlight to another area of our house. The spotlight is plenty bright enough for most areas and it also has color night vision instead of the typical greenish and black color imaging you would expect from night vision. The video itself is very clear with 1080p high definition and a 130-degree viewing angle.This package comes with a screw on mount with hardware and charging cable. My favorite part about the Arlo system is their smart phone app. It is very user friendly and you are able to change many of the options within the app unlike some other security systems. I found that it is definitely worth considering keeping the Arlo Smart service because of their cloud storage and object detection to ensure you don’t lose footage and are able to filter out some notifications. I recently made the mistake of going to another security camera system and went right back to Arlo because of their great products and all the additional features built into the app that they are consistently updating with more options for their users.

I bought 2 Essential XL cameras, for the front and back of my house. I found them easy to set up and quick to start using. The iPhone/iPad apps for configuring the cameras and viewing videos work well, although I would ideally prefer a little more flexibility in setting up alerts based on the time of day and target zones.The cameras show sharp images, although to be sharp enough to read license plates would require getting one of the higher-resolution Arlo cameras.The cameras work well with the motion-detector floodlights that I have installed. The flood lights provide lots of light for viewing at night, and that allows turning off the cameras' spotlights and thereby saving battery life.

I have had to disable all functionality apart from doorbell alert and still battery only lasts a weekGiven all this, I could have bought a doorbell with the same functionality of around a quarter of the price. And additional batteries and chimes (which it seems require its own hub and another cost) add even more cost - a very expensive investment in something that doesn't work!

I had fears of leaving my home with little to no security in place other than the traditional locks on our doors and windows. Arlo made me feel safe to be away and provides me with peace of mind. I love the features- microphone, alarm when movement, and how it sends me alerts straight to my iPhone when there is movement. Detects differences between my dog and actual humans too. I appreciate the different settings available as well, like: arm when away, arm when at home, and stand-by. Not to mention it didn't break the bank either! Very satisfied with Arlo. I would recommend them to anyone.
I love it!Weve had it for a little over a month and barely had to charge it (it still had 25%). We also have ring cameras and this camera honestly is way better then the ring!! We plan on buying a few more of these cameras. The battery life is great, I love that it tell you if it’s a person,animal,or just motion. It also highlights a box around what the camera is picking up! It’s also very clear eve if you zoom in!The only thing that that needs a bit of work is the speaker to speak out to someone because it comes out very low and you can barely hear it if you try to get someone’s attention that is outside, but that’s the only “con”.

Selective notifications would be a really great upgrade. The camera itself was awkward to get to connect initially, and while simple to install the bracket to the wall, getting the camera onto the bracket once that was on the wall is a bit of a pain so I'm concerned about when I'll have to recharge the battery. However it does appear that the battery life is very long, so I should only have to do that on rare occasions. The picture really is super clear and it picks up sound well too. I would have liked a slightly better angle of view, but it is not bad at all. I do really like too that you can turn off the spotlight so it isn't going off all the time potentially further draining the battery or giving away the location of the device and potentially inviting vandalism.

Yesterday I moved this camera from my living room to my laundry room and it picked up NO ACTIVITY at all until 901pm! So prior to 901pm the last activity recorded was at 446pm. Please believe that there were things going on that the Arlo should have recoded too! I was in and out all evening and my laundry room is right next to my garage entry door so at the VERY LEAST it should have recorded the sound of me coming and going. I didn’t check my camera because it’s a brand new camera and there was no reason for it to malfunction or just not operate at all. This product can’t do this alone without additional costs. I bought this camera three months ago and it was very easy and quick set up. I didn't buy the cameras through the actually company so didn’t find out that In order to store videos you have to either get a subscription of around $5 per camera per month or buy an additional base station to store videos locally. Some of the retail venders mention arlo secure which is the subscription but don't mention that it’s needed for video storage. Recordings that were captured were significantly delayed and missed the first 5-10 seconds of activity. It didn’t register people who stayed in frame for long periods of time either. I checked the settings with support and the settings were properly configured. Night vision was the most important feature to me and unfortunately the biggest flaw of this camera - it’s terribly pixleated and a headache to even watch. I have the fastest internet available and the camera is located within feet of the router - so unfortunately the poor performance can’t be blamed on connectivity.
