Seems a solid build. Screen and speakers are excellent. Very difficult to connect my Canon printer. Recommended you do your homework to see if your current printer is compatible. Got mine working but can't tell you how, i tried so many different ways, not sure which one worked. I like how fast it boots up and gets you working. I need to keep learning about the chrome OS and keyboard shortcuts, but I enjoy that kind of research. Recommend this purchase for sure.

I generally view Chromebooks as smartphones that borrow the laptop form factor to create a device that can do anything a smartphone can do, but with a full-sized display and keyboard. In this regard the ASUS CX1 delivers beautifully as it boasts an excellent display and a full-size keyboard with a number pad and everything. This makes it perfect for things like streaming video and for anything that can be done with a browser (which these days is most anything really). Banking, spreadsheets, video calls, anything requiring a moderate amount of computing power and which would benefit from more screen space than a smartphone is just about perfect on this device. There a couple of small issues (the camera isn't fantastic, and I am not a fan of charging blocks with captive cables - if the cable breaks you can't just replace the cable, you have to replace the charger as well), but honestly for this price point these are really minor issues.

Our school purchased 20 of these Chromebooks, thinking that they'd be a great investment. Wow were we wrong. Out of 20, we have had 4 of these die without warning, in all cases while these computers were charging from 60%. It appears that this particular laptop has a fault in either the charging circuit / power management related to its battery management. The computer CX1 , refuses to start back up. The motherboards are completely dead ( every one of the 4 we have). I would strongly recommend against purchasing this laptop until Asus comes clean about what is going on. Asus turned around and blamed bestbuy assuming these were previously opened stock when they were new in box and shipped to us from BESTBUYS own warehouse.Purchasing these has now led to more work ... MoreOur school purchased 20 of these Chromebooks, thinking that they'd be a great investment. Chromebooks are an affordable option for everyday computing needs. I have several more "powerful" Windows based machines but this has become my cheap, solid, basic device for casual web searching and surfing, emails, basic gaming like chess, puzzles, etc. No need for raging graphics cards and cutting-edge processors for most of these common uses. The lay-flat feature is nice. Save your turbo machines for video and photo editing and shooting bad guys in 3D. This inexpensive device is a great choice. Minimalist works too. Only miss: touch screen, but again, this WAS under $300 .Do you NEED all the bells and whistles it for everyday computing? Nope.
I specifically picked this laptop because I wanted a regular keyboard. Not one of the ones that has the return key in some weird place. The picture shows that the laptop has a regular keyboard. But when it shows up and you start typing you quickly realize that you are typing with a bunch of / in place of where there should be a return or enter keystroke. A quick look down and you realize that the keyboard is not the same as the picture and that you just wasted your time and money.Otherwise the laptop is fine, a little sluggish and a little heavier than I had anticipated. But definitely better off for the price than a 4 GB version. All in all the laptop is a good value for money. The screen appears a little washed out, but again having 1080p at this price point is ... MoreI specifically picked this laptop because I wanted a regular keyboard. I really wish the pictures were a representation of the actual products.
The Asus CX1700 exceeded my expectations. As a retired programmer, I of course used windows. I feel very strongly that the average person does not need the power and complexity of windows. Maneuvering around windows can be painful and unnecessarily difficult. That’s why I chose the simplicity of a large (18 inch) Android tablet as my desktop. When it became outdated, I found that there weren’t really any such large Android tablets available. When I discovered that Chromebooks allowed you to install Android apps I felt it made them a sort of an Android Hybrid. The Asus CX1700 does everything my previous Large Android tablet did plus much more and much better. It’s peppy and reliable; its screen is large and clear. first, Its an intel Celeron, if you're disappointed its because you didn't do your homework before hand. Second, here is my experience with it: I just started an E commerce store. So i currently have a two tabs open to my print on demand supplier, i also have two more tabs open to my E-commerce host site. I then have another window open were i am doing Keyword research in google ads, and another window open in incognito mode where i am doing competitor analysis using mozbar. I then have another window open where i am annotating a pdf where i am keeping track of my efforts and research. PLUS i now have this tab open where i am writing this review. It lags sometimes, but i have multiple demanding tabs open and its an intel celeron, i didnt expect it not to lag. but ... Morefirst, Its an intel Celeron, if you're disappointed its because you didn't do your homework before hand. It lags sometimes, but i have multiple demanding tabs open and its an intel celeron, i didnt expect it not to lag. but its more than sufficient to get the job done. If the tab has video on it while doing a bunch of other things the video lags. IT WILL NOT DO GAMES. I hope this conveys the point that it will get the job done if you're using it for research and busy work. Again its an intel Celeron, dont expect to much of it, but with the 8gb of ram itll get the job done. like the title of this review suggests, its a hold over computer, cuz itll hold you over until you can get a big boy computer.
This is my second ASUS Chromebook, and my third ASUS laptop. My previous ASUS Chromebook withstood five years of the tough conditions of campus life before I needed to replace it.Getting another ASUS Chromebook was an obvious choice after how good the last one was, and this new one does not disappoint. It's a slight upgrade on specs from the last one, but a definite upgrade in size and screen brightness. This Chromebook definitely seems even more rugged than the last one, with strong hinges. As expected from ASUS, the keyboard is a large enough, and the keys have adequate travel and a good "click", and there are comfortable places to rest your hands away from the trackpad. This laptop even a full number pad! There are sufficient ports: USB-A for things like mice, USB-C for modern devices and for FAST charging, headphones, and SDcard slot. Unlike many laptops, the SDcard when fully inserted does not extend beyond the chassis, so you can leave it in place (effectively adding extra storage) without it getting bumped.Looking forward to another five years with an affordable, convenient, and reliable Chromebook for my day-to-day work. Maybe more if I treat it nicely. 🙂
I've only had this Chromebook for a few days, but so far I'm loving it! It's sleek and very user-friendly, which is a great thing because I'm not technologically advanced. The only thing I could complain about is that some of the apps I wanted to put on the Chromebook are not made for the computer interface, so they install as though they were on a mobile device, in a tiny window. However, I feel as though that has more to do with the operating system than the device itself.Otherwise, an amazing experience so far with the Chromebook. I will very much enjoy having this laptop at hand.
My new ASUS Chromebook OS is absolutely awesome. The diagonal 15.6 inch screen is exactly what i was needing for all of my work needs. It has 2 usb port so you can connect an external hard drive for more storage if needed. Has a micro card reader as well, just in case if you have that fishermen in the family this chromebook does allow to to download Google Earth for all the public fishing reefs in your area. The WIFI speed is AWESOME, the connection speed is really fast and doesn't lag at all. Compared to my other Chromebook is a very much needed upgrade, this one has the numeric key pad for easy input , and also the 180 degree lay-flat hinge let you lay the screen down to share your work if needed. The non-glare screen is a must to have. The battery life is up to ... MoreMy new ASUS Chromebook OS is absolutely awesome.
