I'm really so happy that I was able to get myself an ASUS TUF R17 after wanting to come back to PC gaming. It really is quite striking as every fine detail in the overall design from the brushed metal to the tiny little details everywhere really does make it feel a bit premium feeling all for a very decent price under the $1,000 mark which I really like a lot that you won't find too much on other gaming PCs such as Razer that clams to be just as good if not better and of course the ASUS ROG line that I also like a lot too and I'm still quite fine with that. The one thing I like the most is finally being on a NVIDIA graphics card over integrated graphics that I've been on for way too long enough already as 144 Hz for my display is just breathtaking as anything you ... MoreI'm really so happy that I was able to get myself an ASUS TUF R17 after wanting to come back to PC gaming. Thank you ASUS for making such wonderful products as I'm happy to be part of wanting to own one after discovering it way back in my high school days from my IT guy there and even a few of my friends who couldn't get enough over you guys! Definitely my pick for anything for now on!

No its doesnt get too hot but it does quite loud and often.Despite the gddr5 upgrade to the graphics card it is still really out dated to use this laptop for dedicated gaming or as main gaming rig.So overall I like having this laptop for entertainment, occasional gaming and browsing and it works great and looks great doing it even though the loud fan ruin the experience time to time.

My laptop was getting a little long in the tooth, so I went on the hunt for a new PC. My old one was an ASUS ROG G-Series 17" laptop that I bought when I was making much better money, so I was expecting to take a major performance hit with my now-decreased budget. I couldn't have been further from the truth! This little heavyweight outperforms my old PC by leaps and bounds! It is also much more durable than other laptops I've encountered, though I'll be keeping a close eye on this as I use it more. My only complaint is that the PC is only available with 8GB of RAM, which is good for most daily tasks, but I notice that between this and the i5 processor I am not able to multi-task like I was before. I upgraded from my Dell laptop to this one. I noticed much more responsiveness and speed with every day applications and web browsing. And the game speed was much more pleasant. I will say it can be daunting getting used to all the new bells and whistles to optimize your game play but if you put in the time you will find a setup that works for you. The Wi-Fi and bluetooth connectivity has been problem free compared to the dell. And they link up without having me to manually reconnect every time I login.I love the SSD drive as it makes starting up the next day so smooth and quick. That is one of the best things about this laptop.

Thankfully it was just one clip so the remaining Clips were able to reattach back to the bottom of the laptop without any issueAfter some restarts and playing around with the SSD data partition I figured out how to make everything work and since then has been running smoothly with no issues. Everything runs on highest settings for all my games and my recording software works very well and very quickly. Don't listen to the bad reviews, give these Asus TUF laptops a chance.
I've had this laptop for a good couple of months so long enough to feel confident enough to review it. All in all, fantastic laptop. Both the graphics card and processor are the next generation above what my last laptop had and there is a noticeable difference in performance in all regards. Along with the elaborate rebranding of the last generation products, you also get a tiny boost in overall performance, so that's great, for me anyway.Gaming is what you'd expect for the price you pay. Along with the elaborate rebranding of the last generation products, you also get a tiny boost in overall performance, so that's great, for me anyway.Gaming is what you'd expect for the price you pay. I'm not an 'intense' gamer in that I don't religiously follow and play all the most recent and demanding games but I do play the occasional game that ramps up the demand for the specs of the computer I'm using to the extent that you'll need more than what your crappy little workstation dedicated GPU can do for you. In that regard, you get more than enough graphical processing power and along with the more than ample capabilities of the CPU, I can play all games on a minimum of medium/high and many that are now considered old/older games on maximum without any hassle whatsoever.I'm noticing that perhaps 8GB of RAM is not enough seeing as I've seen spikes in FPS and also spikes in all-out CPU usage in 5-10% of my intensive demanding activity on this laptop, which mainly was playing games that demand a substantial amount of capability from the computer you're using. Assetto Corsa Competitionze (?) for example bottoms out the CPU every now and then and I end up off the track and the session is ruined. I put this down to low RAM as previous laptops I've had (cheaper ones at that but with similar specs) have ploughed through intensive demands with added RAM, say, 16GB minimum. With browsers now eating up from anywhere from 2-4GB in RAM alone, it's safe to say that 8GB might not be enough these days. I also found the RAM installed in this laptop is pretty hard to come by, Scan does not (seem to) stock it at the time of making this review and it seems many other places don't stock it either - this I find unattractive seeing as you want to be able to freely and effortlessly buy upgrades to 'power up' the laptop when you reach a certain point. The build is great. It's sturdy and looks very appealing. It's built for the purpose of giving the chassis as much air flow and cooling ability as possible and you can see that in the design, especially with the exhausts on the backside. The quality of the build is reflected in how well it's put together and packaged. The keyboard is great and touch typing is a breeze and there's no accidentally pressing other keys. It's also get some cool perks that you're expected to get when you start paying a little more, like the customizable backlight which is pretty cool. The display is awesome and really brings out depth of colour and it's no different (if not better than) the high quality computer monitors you get that really bring the graphical aspect of using a computer to life. It can also be easily customized to reflect certain activities. One HUGE negative point about this laptop is the touchpad. It is USELESS. I'm constantly having to reset my using of the touchpad because it simply doesn't pick up my movement properly. This means literally taking my fingers off the touchpad for a few seconds to allow the touchpad to reset and then start all over again. Sometimes I'll be scrolling down a webpage and it will suddenly not detect anything and then pick up at a random point after it's missed out on everything else beforehand, which usually means the cursor flies to some random part of the browser and potentially towards a menu I didn't want to click on, a link I didn't want to click on or sometimes even actions like minimizing and closing. It also just won't detect anything at all and so while you expect real-time interaction with a certain part of a website (clicking an image for example), well, the touchpad will be way behind in getting the memo. This when you're browsing the net on a laptop worth close to £1000 is a joke to me. I've had better touchpads on laptops half the price of this. It also does it when you're highlighting items on Windows Explorer, say, you're selecting certain files or folder to delete. It will not detect certain parts of the movement process and you'll find yourself now duplicating all those files/folders you've highlighted because Windows thinks you're dragging and dropping or copy and pasting. This happens quite regularly. Again, for a laptop worth south of a thousand pounds is ridiculous and definitely something that affects my overall satisfaction with this laptop. After all, a laptop is supposed to be mobile meaning you don't NEED a home office/computer setup to operate it. I shouldn't NEED or use a separate mouse whenever I use this laptop. In regards to possible solutions I've sought out updating the touchpad driver only to find it's the most recent and I've adjusted settings to reduce or increase sensitivity to touch - nothing works.Overall though, one negative is not enough to embrace all the positives this laptop has to offer. Most of which come from the fact you're paying decent money to jump onto the top tier laptop ladder. Sure, you're not jumping on at the top nor are you jumping on in the middle. You're actually somewhere around the bottom and then a little bit above that. And that's perfectly acceptable, considering you do get what you pay for, especially with this laptop. If you want a laptop that will run Office and for browsing the web - this is overkill. You'll never get out of it the money you paid for it. If you want a laptop that will play basic games, you can buy second-hand refurbs with budget GPUs on-board for that. If you want however the ability to do 99% of tasks on a computer you can just about do these days while not barely crawling by and probably while being able to do several things at once including gaming - this is for you. It's not a supercomputer. It's nowhere close. But it is a prime example of an entry level gaming laptop that packs all the necessary clout (and tech specs) to get what you want to get done, and then some. You've got a decent CPU in here, a decent GPU, a chassis designed to get the most out of the components you're paying the price tag for of the system, and you've got the basic setup needed for an entry level gaming laptop. And for that, I'm more than happy with my purchase.
I bought this laptop November 27th during the Black Friday deals. It was a little difficult to set up at first because of the driver situation and McAffee. The laptop is medium weight and easy to carry around. Keyboard back light is super annoying to me. My previous review has been removed by me, as I discovered a way to fix the main issue that caused me to give it a middling score. Previously my complaint was that there was a problem with the wireless card that causes the internet to constantly fluctuate between normal and unusable, however after posting that review I discovered that the specific wireless LAN card used in the laptop actually has a newer updated driver that for some reason is not included in windows updates; and has to be tracked down and downloaded manually from the site. Upon installing this driver update, the internet problems have been fixed and as such, I can now look at this laptop objectively without that issue weighing my opinion of it down. Upon installing this driver update, the internet problems have been fixed and as such, I can now look at this laptop objectively without that issue weighing my opinion of it down. This laptop is a fantastic budget gaming laptop, its only real cons being its small size (which many might see as a plus) and the colour of the screen when in battery mode as opposed to to plugged in; a problem many gaming laptops deal with and is more or less a simple weakness you have to take with the territory. Since it uses an SSD, its lightning fast when compared to gaming laptops that use an HDD which are notorious for growing ridiculously slow. (I would also like to thank and apologize to the representative who replied to my previous review and hope this updated review will satisfy everyone on the end result). Windows 11 has taken some getting used to, and I still personally think Windows 10 has a better UI, but it does the job perfectly fine. My one recommendation to ASUS and newegg would be to perhaps in the future, include a sheet of paper or such with shipments to warn them about the issue and fix regarding the wireless card, as my investigations online have led me to conclude that this is a fairly common issue with that specific brand and model; and people who are less tech inclined may find themselves unable to figure out how to fix it. As a final aside, I had worried before the laptop was shipped to me that I would have to rummage through its settings to enable tap clicking on the touchpad instead of using the buttons beneath it; as reviews I had seen online suggested would be needed, however it seems since those reviews were published its now been enabled by default which meant I didn't have to do so, which is a nice positive.
I've been using this laptop for work/personal use for the last month or so, including during a trip abroad. It works well so far, no complaints. Good weight, feels solid, pretty screen! I got a separate dock to connect additional monitors, and that's been helpful for the work I do.I occasionally have trouble connecting to my Bluetooth hearing aids, but that may be the hearing aids and not the computer. I find that plugging the aids into the charger for a couple minutes is enough to reboot the connection.I would recommend picking this up in-store vs. getting it delivered - the delivery process was frustrating.
