Furthermore, 0 stuck or dead pixels, and I'm just overall extremely impressed with the panel. The stand is mostly great, in that the feet are entirely made of steel or aluminum and it plants very firmly on my desk. I actually use the stand instead of my monitor arm because of how solid it is. Though the primary pillar is oversized, clad in plastic, and shoots red led's out of the bottom for some reason. Thankfully, you can disable the LED, and I was even able to remove the red plastic appliques on the base. Now, I have some petty gripes as well, and they are all related to the design, trim, and casing of the monitor. First of all, the design is very "gamer", which yes, I know, it is a gaming monitor, but that doesn't mean that it needs to have red plastic and led's all over it. It's seriously an abomination and I almost returned the monitor because of this. I know, "Who cares?", but I'm not a 14 year old kid, I use this monitor for my home office and also to play games with when I'm not working. Thankfully you can remove / deactivate just about all of the red led's and red plastic trim.My biggest gripe: the back of the monitor and the buttons all feel extremely cheap and flimsy, it reminds me of some kind of $100 off-brand monitor. Really disappointing for a monitor of this price. I had a Samsung cf791 ultrawide before this monitor, and the casing was much thicker and sturdier, and the thumbstick used for navigation felt leagues ahead in terms of overall quality and durability.Overall, I bought this monitor because I wanted a 1440p / 144hz - 170hz panel with stellar colours, and that's exactly what I got. So despite it's aesthetic short-comings and cheap plastic casing, the panel really does not disappoint, and for that reason, I give it a 4.5/5

After looking around I decided to get this ASUS 27 Gaming Monitor to replace an ASUS 25.5 Monitor that I had been very happy with but was no longer available. The first thing I noticed after only minutes of use is that there is NO black coming from this monitor. When you have what should be a full black screen, it is actually a foggy gray color. This lowers the quality of EVERYTHING viewed on the screen as there is very little contrast between black and white. The second thing I noticed after a day or two was that there is a weird glitch with the monitor that moves the middle 2 or 3 columns of pixels off to a far side of the screen (usually the right, but it went to the left a couple times). This occurs almost on a daily basis, and sometimes more than once per day. ... MoreAfter looking around I decided to get this ASUS 27 Gaming Monitor to replace an ASUS 25.5 Monitor that I had been very happy with but was no longer available. When this happens, what is suppose to be displayed in the middle of the screen is squished together, and you can see the mouse pointer movement and graphics off at the far edge of the screen. Lastly, this monitor is supposed to be able to handle high refresh rates. I went to play a game (the specific title escapes me at the moment), and I selected to use the 165Hz higher rate. Instead of a sharp, solid image on the screen as I would expect. It had an odd flicker feeling. And when I moved my mouse around, it became a very intense flickering that was unusable. I've tried to work with the monitor to see if I could get used to things, but after about 3.5 months, I have simply had enough. This monitor shouldn't have been sold for over $600!! Having read some other reviews, the black issue seems to be better or worse on different monitors, so I am looking to exchange for a monitor that will hopefully actually have black and less other issues.

I feel that 2 stars is fair. This monitor’s panel when working properly is beautiful for gaming. But the panel I received does have it’s quirks. Driving this monitor is an ASUS ROG STRIX GTX 1080 Ti. Out of the box the monitor runs great from the factory calibration, the colors were spectacular and there was no backlight bleeding at the corners of the screen. With the 170Hz overclock enabled and both ELMB and GSYNC DISABLED monitor doesn’t disappoint performance wise, I haven't experienced any flickering. You hardly see screen tearing in fast motion games and there are no ghosting or double images, just a minor blur which is better than the blur from my previous 144Hz 1ms gaming monitor. I can say I can track my targets better while shooting in games like Apex Legends. I can say I can track my targets better while shooting in games like Apex Legends. As soon as I started testing games with 170Hz monitor overclock, GSYNC and ELMB ENABLED my opinion of the monitor really lowered because I was hoping for perfect results. I instead was shown some pretty bad strobe crosstalk (double images), screen darkness (even at 100 brightness), ghosting, and flickering images. I do not recommend using this monitor with ELMB and GSYNC on for fast motion games because of the double images and ghosting even if it does eliminate tearing. Do I recommend this monitor? YES if you’re not looking to use GSYNC, ELMB or HDR400. The refresh and response rate are fantastic and DOESN’T sacrifice image color and quality.
Switching refresh rates and resolutions on this monitor, greatly suffers. If I set the base refresh rate in Windows 10 to 120hz and then have a full screen game start up at 144hz, the monitor goes black then spazes out then pretends that it isn't getting a signal and shuts off. That is my biggest complaint about this monitor.Alt+Enter to turn the application into windowed mode in W10 1803+ is the best solution I have found to this. [This is the reason for the 3 stars]Longest blackout time between resolution/refresh rate change was about 27 seconds. It is not enough time to click the OKAY resolution good button in windows. This was going from 60hz straight to 170hz.It's response time is probably the best I have ever felt on an IPS, but compared to my old 1080p TN, it still feels slower. Even when comparing the ULMB to the ELMB modes. It's overdrive can go to 3 without any inverse ghosting on my monitor, 4 inverse ghosting is noticeable, and at 5 the ghosting is atrocious. Inverse ghosting is also present in ELMB mode in certain games like Overwatch and I don't know why.It is extremely bright on it's highest setting which makes the HDR gaming on it... there. I have a better HDR experience on my TV, and I would say HDR on vs off in games doesn't make a noticeable difference on this monitor. When below 120hz the 10 bit color can be enable in the w10 control panel and it's accuracy is very nice and the colors are properly poppy at full brightness.Overclocking on my monitor only works up to 165hz without any problems. 170hz is achievable but some games like Overwatch had weird artifacting issues.Because this monitor is so huge for a 1440p monitor text is slightly blurry, but that is expected of a high refresh rate monitor at this resolution and size. The remedy is just to sit farther way.Overall a good monitor if it wasn't for the black out issues mentioned before I would rate it 4 stars because I don't feel like the price justifies this monitor. But because of long black out issues when changing resolution or refresh rate this monitor is a solid 3 stars.
Cons: The ROGSWIFT series has gone a bit backwards somewhat over the years. Yes they’ve added HDMI ports since the first monitor was release way back in 2013 (PG278Q which I also own) but the build quality has gone down somewhat. Also, some features are worse or removed altogether. On my now 7 year old monitor I can press the power switch at the back on/off as many times and as quickly as I want and the screen will turn on and off instantly whereas on this new monitor that’s not the case. Pressing the power button turns the whole monitor off completely and it requires a reboot. I’ve owned a TUF monitor and the same applies to that as well, where the whole monitor turns off completely. I’ll always advise people to get an OLED if you plan on gaming in HDR as those perfect blacks and infinite contrast ratio is unmatched. Overall a good monitor for the price, but don’t expect groundbreaking performance.
I have had this monitor for more than 15 months now and about a month ago I started noticing the edge light bleed getting pretty bad. When I bought the monitor one corner was bleeding a bit but I ignored it because it wasn't noticeable if I wasn't focusing on it.Unfortunately it has gotten so bad that about 10 pixels in from the left and right sides of my monitor are blueish in color due to the edge light bleed. For a $600 dollar monitor this is beyond unacceptable. I bought this monitor for longevity, not for it to break in less than 2 years of use.Not to mention that it was almost always less than 75% most of the time and it was running at only 120 hz.I did have 10bit color on most of the time, and if that was the reason the edge light started bleeding ... MoreI have had this monitor for more than 15 months now and about a month ago I started noticing the edge light bleed getting pretty bad. Again for $600 you would think this would be standard.Furthermore testing with an LDAT the monitor at its fastest settings never got close to 2 ms of response time. And its lag is noticeable in latency reliant tasks like FPS games.Granted for games like Red Dead that are story base its not that much of an issue, but still the 1ms is very misleading. But I knew going into buying this monitor that it would never actually be able get close to 1ms due to it's IPS panel. All I can say is I am glad I bough the All State insurance add-on so that I can get a replacement without paying another $600 dollars.
First thing I would like to say is that this monitor is amazing. The color and dispay is gorgeous. I havnt tried overclocking it to 170 hz but its definitely stable at 165hz. Now my only probelm (whether this was Best Buy's fault or Asus's fault) is the first time I bought this monitor it was DOA. So I exchanged it and got a new one. Well the second one was great but then a couple days later I noticed a stuck pixel. I cant say for sure if this happened during use or if it was there when I first turned it on. So now I'm considering exchanging it again but also its just one pixel. In the end though I defiantly recommend this product.
I love this thing, I didn't realise just how bad my other monitors were till I turned this on. It is the first time I have ever had to turn the brightness settings down significantly, up at the same level as my other monitors it was blinding to look at!Also, it does come with an HDMI and Display Port cable in the box (I went and bought a DP cable as it isn't mentioned and when I rang up Scan said it didn't have one with it).Overall you can tell that the quality is great, and a lot of thought went into it. It has a really solid stand (projection out of the bottom is a bit gimicky but a bit of 'fun' on a product isn't a bad thing - you can turn it off if you don't like it).Gaming on this is a thing of beauty (I suspect the graphics card helps as well :D) just go ... MoreI love this thing, I didn't realise just how bad my other monitors were till I turned this on. I have a gaming rig and work laptop so not the end of the world as I normally only change it int he morning for work then in the evening if I'm playing. But to change it requires pressing the menu button, navigating down to input, across, up to desired input then selecting it. You do get used to it but still, frustrating.Other frustrating element is mounting it on an standard monitor arm plate requires a specific adaptor and it is such a pig to get to the mount points I gave up as I wanted to get it up and do some gaming on it and I don't have the adaptor yet so wan't any benefit to persevering at that point as I would have to put it back together anyway. On that note, I cannot even find the adaptor for sale anywhere either. If I do find it I will update this if I can or add another review with details.I know I have written more for negative than positive, but it was more wanting to make sure anyone makes an informed choice, it's a lot of money but overall I am happy to have bought it, so much so that I would happily buy this again or maybe even the 4k one if I had an extra £200. I would also happily buy another 2 to replace my monitors on either side. I'm not sure I can get this authorised by my wife though :D
Please note I have only owned this display for under a week I cannot comment on the long term reliability this is more my initial impression. The fit and finish of this monitor is fantastic, it has a very high quality feel to the stand and housing with very slim bezels on the sides and top. The screen itself has more of a semi-gloss finish which is something small to note if you are using it near a window with direct sunlight I actually prefer it over the very matte TN panel it replaced, but that can be personal preference. The monitor has virtually no backlight bleed only when looking at certain angles in black scenes I can catch a little bit in the corners but thats very good compared to other IPS displays I have owned. I checked the display on dead pixel buddy ... MorePlease note I have only owned this display for under a week I cannot comment on the long term reliability this is more my initial impression. I checked the display on dead pixel buddy and its virtually perfect I was not able to catch any dead pixels. A nice feature is it comes with a color calibration report so they go through and individually color calibrate these. I have it overclocked to 170hz with g-sync enabled, no ELMB or HDR enabled and there is no flickering in this scenario. I have read reports that ELMB is just not great on this panel but I never planned to use it in the first place for several reasons. I have not noticed any increased input lag, ghosting, smearing or any motion related issues. As far as HDR its HDR 400, and its definitely noticeable and was better than I expected. If HDR is your main focus you would probably want something higher than 400 but it still works fine and looks great. The only thing I am scratching my head about is displayport 1.2 I thought a monitor in this price would have DP 1.4 but Im no expert on these standards and figuring out exactly which inputs support which features can be a little confusing so I'm not even sure that it matters. That is really my only gripe and Im not going to knock a point off for it because I knew this upfront before I bought the monitor. So in conclusion if you want an amazingly vibrant monitor with a great 1440p IPS panel and great colors that does 170hz with good dynamic range and has that high end look and feel I can see no reason not to buy this one it really has a little of everything.
