I was recently given this Ergobaby Away Carrier to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. I couldn’t be more excited about how compact the carrier is for a quick grab and go. I’m a Mom of a slew of children that keep my hands full with plenty of gear and sometimes throwing a bulky baby carrier on top of everything else I’m trying to carry can be a real challenge. The fact that this portable carrier weighs just over 1 lb and can easily be packed into my backpack diaper bag has been a real game changer for me! Whether it’s conveniently packed in my diaper bag or being worn to carry my baby, it is about the easiest carrier I’ve ever taken on the go, anywhere. Whether it’s conveniently packed in my diaper bag or being worn to carry my baby, it is about the easiest carrier I’ve ever taken on the go, anywhere. I especially appreciate how much more of a breeze it has been to get down to the football field or into a hotel room, being that is is so lightweight and has a much more compact design than all of my other carriers. It is real easy for me to fasten this on myself, which I truly appreciate. If the main carrier that I typically use was out of reach or unavailable, I could easily send one of my older children to grab this away carrier from the car, stroller or diaper bag, knowing that it isn’t going to be too bulky for any one of them to maneuver and carry back to me!This Away Carrier is comfortable to wear. I love the front wearing option the best, although this is just a personal preference for us, not somewhere that this carrier falls short by any means for holding him on my back! The ONLY thing that I currently wish that this away carrier had done differently is built the shoulder straps to allow for a little more neck & head mobility for my baby. His head does feel a bit confined at times. However, my regular carrier does provide these things, so I don’t mind giving up a little comfort for the convenience of this grab and go carrier when needed. Also, potentially as he grows a little bigger, he will sit taller in the carrier and this won’t even be an issue anymore. If I was wearing my baby for a longer period of time or wearing right out of the car, I would most likely still reach for my regular carrier just because of the extra padding in the straps and added support around the waist. Some additional pros are:* It has reflectors for walking in the evening or early mornings.* It transforms into a little pouch! I love being able to store it inside of itself.* It has a convenient hang loop on the outside of the pouch!* It also has a zip pocket at the base of the carrier for smaller items!* It has an amazing mesh shield that can be untucked from the front that can cover their heads. I have nursed using this, protected him from the sun, and used it for additional support for his head during naps.* It is made with materials like a ripstop, polyester material on the outside part of the carrier and a breathable, 3D mesh that lines the inside of carrier.* Versatility!!! The straps all tuck away into an easy-access waistband pocket, allowing you to wear it in a crossbody style!* It can easily be spot cleaned or thrown in a pillowcase and machine washed.* I am able to nurse my baby in it while I hike through our lower property to feed our animals in the morning.* Like all Ergo carriers, the Away Carrier meets all of the appropriate safety and security measures. As you can see, this away carrier is packed with so many thoughtful features that have made MOM LIFE, with several children + a baby, and several commitments SO much easier. I’m incredibly happy with it! I would highly recommend this carrier!!!

It also folds up really compactly into a pouch which is great for tossing in my diaper bag. I appreciate that the pouch is part of the carrier because I would definitely misplace it otherwise! I also love the Ergobaby Aerloom, which is a bit more comfortable for both mom and baby but this one edges it out as a compact option because of the attached bag- it keeps the carrier clean and makes it easier to pack and grab! I ended up keeping this carrier in the trunk of my car and I’ve been using it on library trips, grocery runs, quick errands, and even a day in the city when I forgot my other carrier. I have to say that this carrier is very comfortable and could even be someone’s regular go to carrier too if you aren’t wearing for too many hours on end! The shoulders are padded enough to not dig in and I can wear my 21 pound baby for hours without feeling sore. I’ve only worn front facing in before but like that I have the option to wear him on my back if needed. For size reference, I am 5’2” and a generally size small. The straps fit nicely on my shoulders and don’t ever come close to slipping off. I love the thick padded waistband which provides excellent support. My baby feels very evenly distributed. Also, the leg holes are padded which is a definite plus- I feel like my other lightweight carriers dig into his chunky thighs!I have the carrier in Graphite Grey which is a nice neutral color that looks nice with my outfits. The hideaway hood is also great for naps on the go! My very first time wearing this carrier, my baby fell asleep and I was able to pull out the hood and snap it up without disturbing him. The hood is lightweight, soft, stretchy and breathable. I also like that I can wear it as a crossbody sling when not in use. For size reference, I’ve included a photo of it next to my 2L belt bag.The only negative about this carrier is the mesh on the bottom of the shoulder straps isn’t very comfortable against bare skin, so I just don’t wear tank tops with it. It’s not too bad but you’ll definitely feel it. Otherwise, no complaints!Overall, this carrier is amazing and I would definitely recommend it. It will be used regularly for years to come!

Although there are a lot of things I love about this carrier, I gave 4 stars for a few things that didn’t work well for me. First, the mesh on the underside of the straps is uncomfortable on any exposed skin. That is a big deal in warmer months. Second, I actually have a very hard time putting together the clip behind my head when I’m wearing him in the front. Maybe this is because I have a heavier baby, but I do find it difficult. If I’m at home, I’ll sit his bottom on something, squat down, and then I can clip it easily. The last thing I don’t really love is the color/style. Ergo has so many pretty carriers and this one just misses the mark for me! Overall, I think this is a great backup carrier to have stored away in your car or stroller for when it’s needed, and we will continue to use it for our backup one!

Helping Hands

The Ergobaby Away carrier is the perfect on-the-go carrier due to its simple design. We have used a much-loved Ergobaby Omni 360 for three years and it was always being stuffed in cracks and crevices or thrown on top of a pile in between uses, so this carrier is exactly what we need to take when we want to carry the baby some of the time and just pack the carrier away at other times. We keep this carrier in our car all the time now so we can baby carry wherever we are. We also love to toss it in the basket of our stroller for when the baby gets fussy, and pack it in our backpacks for trips. We love being able to grab this out of the diaper bag when we are at restaurants and needing a carrier in a pinch. We love being able to grab this out of the diaper bag when we are at restaurants and needing a carrier in a pinch. The comfort with the baby on the front was excellent even when used for an hour, however it was not at all comfortable to wear the baby on my back because the stomach strap does not have any structure. It also seemed to be much more easily adjustable for swapping front to back and also for adjusting sizes between mom and dad. It does seem to be able to provide adequate support for the wearer and baby with this simplistic design but long duration wear may be more uncomfortable. The appearance of the Ergobaby Away carrier also seems more appropriate for a lot of situations with a more minimalist look compared to the also great Ergobaby Omni 360 that was like wearing a cargo pack and looked very bulky. Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this baby carrier.

I received the Ergobaby Away Carrier as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. I am loving this carrier. On the positive side: it is super light weight and compact. It packs up easily to be stored in the car (my normal carrier takes up a ton of space and does not pack down, its like an octopus that we’re always tripping over in the car). I love the breathable materials, perfect for keeping baby cool when we’re on the go. My girl is the youngest of four, and we are always out and about, so we MUST have a carrier that works for us for every day park dates, hikes, the grocery store, the occasional nap. She is petite for a 10mo old, just 16lbs, but she’s in the 50% for height. This carrier feels a little bit deep for her. She is petite for a 10mo old, just 16lbs, but she’s in the 50% for height. This carrier feels a little bit deep for her. She is very cozy, and her neck is supported, but to see out she has to crane her neck a bit. I also wish there was a dedicated cell phone pocket – its possible to use the hood pocket, but it is a little clumsy. The arm strap design is just a bit different than other carriers I’ve owned, takes a little getting used to for getting baby in by myself, but once she’s in I love it! The straps don’t dig in to me or to her in any awkward places. Also, the elastic to hold the strap rolls is sufficiently tight to ACTUALLY do their job. I have found those totally useless with other carriers, and end up trailing all of long straps, which is sloppy and unsafe. I’m not currently using the crossbody function of the carrier, and I don’t think I will. In order to do so, I need to 1) not have a baby with me who needs it and 2) populate it with my wallet etc, which I already have optimized in another bag. I would absolutely buy this carrier and recommend it to other parents who are on the hunt. Compared to other traditional carriers, it is lighter weight, more breathable, with no sacrifice of function. Compared to other travel carriers, it packs down to the same size, and is a similar weight, but is MUCH more comfortable for me and baby, and has higher quality structure and materials!

I received this carrier as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel and wanted to love this carrier because it initially seemed so promising given its portability. The biggest pro is the lightness. In comparison to the two other baby carriers I own, it is unimaginably light! It's like my kiddo is floating on air! That's the upside. I also loved the possibility of carrying my toddler in it on my back, but he refused. I could see it being very useful for travel given its size and lightness.Ultimately, though, it's not something I would choose to use because of a few notable cons:1. I also loved the possibility of carrying my toddler in it on my back, but he refused. I could see it being very useful for travel given its size and lightness.Ultimately, though, it's not something I would choose to use because of a few notable cons:1. It is INCREDIBLY difficult to get it on/off following the instructions when you actually have your baby on you as well. The instructions tell you to essentially put your baby on your belly and THEN fasten the buckle at the top of your back, but you need two hands to do so, which either means 1. sitting while trying to buckle it or 2. buckling it first and then kind of swinging your baby in through the bottom/side. Once baby is attached, it can also be difficult to maneuver to reach the straps and tighten them.2. You can't carry your baby facing outward on your chest. I sometimes carry my infant facing inwards, but she often prefers outwards, in which case I wouldn't be able to use this carrier.3. Most importantly, my baby simply didn't like the carrier. It didn't matter who was carrying her or how we'd positioned her, or if we were standing or moving. She lasted all of 10 minutes any given time in it.So in short, great idea, LOVED the feel of it, but just didn't meet my needs for a host of reasons.

And when you need quick access, it's right there at your fingertips. Plus, the built-in hang loop makes it a breeze to attach to your stroller's handle.Comfort is key, and this carrier delivers. The lightly padded waist belt and straps make carrying your baby a breeze in both front and back holds. What's impressive is that when you're not using the carrier, the straps tuck away neatly into an easy-access waistband pocket, allowing you to wear it in a crossbody style. Talk about versatility! For those moments when your little one needs extra privacy during naps or nursing, the soft, breathable mesh hood has been a game-changer. It's a thoughtful touch that keeps both baby and mom comfortable. And when you find yourself strolling at dusk, the carrier's reflective accents on the front and back provide that extra layer of safety that every parent can appreciate. In short, the Ergobaby Away Carrier is the real deal for busy moms like me. It's compact, comfortable, and packed with thoughtful features that make life with a baby on the move so much easier. I wouldn't leave home without it.

Perfect on the go carrier

This portable carrier is super easy to take on the go. It’s incredibly lightweight and compact, and conveniently folds down into a waistband pocket (that can alternatively be worn crossbody) so the top doesn’t hang down at your legs like other models do when they’re not in use. I love that the entire carrier can also be inverted into a zipper pouch that then easily fits in a diaper bag or can snap-attach onto a stroller handle. My favorite way to store the carrier is in the back pocket of my van’s passenger seat because it takes the mental energy out of remembering one more thing- It’s so nice to know I will always have it with me when I’m running errands or traveling. An added bonus is that it’s tucked away, not causing visual clutter or a tripping hazard for my older kids.My main carrier was unavailable when I took my three kids to a college football game. This portable carrier fit perfectly into my clear book bag along with diapers, wipes, and ear protecting headphones. I was then was able to pull the carrier out when my 8 month old wanted to be carried and take a nap. The mesh hood was especially helpful because it protected him from the sun by giving him shade while still being breathable and not getting too hot. I also like that there are reflective accents for when I’m walking the dog in the neighborhood early in the morning or as the sun is starting to set. This carrier is actually very comfortable considering it is so compact and easy to take on-the-go. It is definitely the one I’d grab for a short trip, but I wish the shoulder straps had a little more padding for added comfort. I also wish there was a little more space for my baby’s neck when he’s outward facing during front carry. Other than those two minor preferences, this carrier is a complete win! I’m so thankful I received it as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel.

Portable on the go carrier for busy moms

On the go moms or moms of multiples, this carrier is for you! I have 3 kids myself who are all age 5 and under with my youngest 7 months old. I always need to have my hands accessible. I really liked this carrier, not only for its compact features, but also how comfortable and lightweight it was to wear. I wore my baby while grocery shopping and even nursed her while we were walking through the store without anyone noticing! Nursing in this carrier is much easier, because the carrier material itself sits much lower on my chest for access; almost near the top of my belly button. Other carriers would have the material much higher on my chest, removing access to nurse. I would keep the carrier in my diaper bag, in the back of my SUV, around the handle of my stroller, or under the stroller while not in use. It barely took up any space! Due to the soft fabric, it also was not bulky when in its compact form. I preferred the front carry over the back hold as I felt like I couldn't always attend to my daughter's needs when she was on my back. I would recommend using this carrier once baby has strong head control given that it does not provide a high enough enclosure to support young babies with limited head and neck control. Overall, great lightweight product that is very easy and comfortable to use! Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this baby carrier.

The baby carrier I have been waiting for
22 September 2023

Ergobaby has solved my #1 problem with structured baby carriers- they’ve built in compact storage to solve the bulky carrier storage problem. The way this folds up and has a concealed pocket and zipper pouch is truly genius. I wish all carriers had this feature. So often, I debate if the convenience of baby carrying will outweigh the annoyance of lugging around the carrier if baby decides to get down. This carrier makes it easy to say “yes” to bringing it along. It is great for clipping to the stroller handle bar and taking to the park, the zoo, the grocery store, and more. I love that I can store it in my car and have it ready to go without becoming a tangled mess in the floorboards. I will definitely chose this carrier to fly with on our next trip. I usually baby wear through security, and now this carrier will store easily under the seat when I no longer need it. I can also wear it cross body, because who in the world has a spare hand to cary something while traveling?!The straps are considerably less padded than other full size carriers, which surprisingly didn’t impact my comfort very much. The clip seems higher than other carriers I have which makes buckling it in the back by myself SO much easier, but is almost at the base of my neck if I want to carry like a backpack. Not sure if I am fitting it incorrectly or if others have experienced that.Only one thing I’d love to see changed to make this an absolute slam dunk- If baby could be carried forward facing out. That’s the position my baby prefers, which is not supported in this carrier.I received this product as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel.
