It is slightly above your average whiskey but for flavor and quality, I think you could save some money and grab some Maker's Mark or Knob Creek for a similar price. Asked the bartender at Lazy Dog what their most requested bourbons were the other night. There so many marginal products out there, I usually stick with Makers/46 or on a really good night Blanton's. That evening I tried a Tin Cup again (it was still ok) then tried Basil Hayden's. Have to say, Basil Hayden's was impressive.Basil Hayden's is much closer to the quality and finish of a Blanton's. Its much smoother than Makers or 46. There is one issue; Basil Hayden's isn't easy to find. When you do, I'd suggest picking up an extra.

I’ve purchased. Few bottles of Basil over the past few months. Very drinkable neat or on ice. Not overpowering and a really decent everyday drop. Not in the top shelf league but pretty darn good if you can get it on sale.

I got this on a whim; my previous purchases were Knob Creek, Rebecca Creek, Dogbird, and Bulleit. THIS bourbon is sophisticated and delicious (not overly). A faint floral aroma is present. I have no words to adequately describe the flavor when it enters my mouth. Even though it's 80 proof, the whisky still has a lot of bark and burn. I usually drink Scotch, but I really enjoy this bourbon!

I must say this is hands down the best Bourbon I've come across thus far. It was wonderful to have a bottle of this around during the holidays. The flavor was beautiful and aromatic. You could taste the hints of spices, but it wasn't over powering at all. This will definitely be my holiday go to Bourbon from here on out.
This high-rye bourbon, despite its mash bill, is not spicy, with oak coming to the forefront of the flavor profile. While it’s very drinkable and mellow, it’s also overpriced and underproofed relative to the price. A bourbon doesn’t need to be high in proof to be good, but in this case bumping up the proof even just a bit would add boldness and layers to the fairly one-dimensional flavor.
As a Sevierville resident, I recently purchased an admittedly excellent locally-made bourbon that set me back $60.00. With gas prices rising daily and every commodity becoming unaffordable or unavailable, I've decided I must cut back to protect my budget. "So long JD Single Barrel. Goodbye Makers' 46". I have reached the point where I must either change hobbies or conserve. Basil Hayden's Bourbon is tasty, smooth, and affordable. I only hope that, by posting this review, I've not made it all disappear from Total Wine's well-stocked shelves.
I received this as a birthday gift from a friend who absolutely loves whisky. The bottle looked gorgeous and I tried it to feed my curiosity. It is so easy and friendly to drink and great tasting just over ice, unlike the other bourbons out there. Slightly on the pricier side for a bourbon here in the UK considering what else you could get for around half the price but nonetheless would be happy to drink again someday.
As I write this review I am nursing about 4 oz of this Basil Hayden. First bottle I've ever had and I'm so glad that I got one to try. Well I can tell you that this one has jumped up to the top 5 favorites of mine. WOW, this stuff is soooo smooth. A caramel woody and hint of vanilla but with that great bourbon flavor. Kinda smokey and a very pleasing aroma. No bitterness and so darn smooth. Goes down very easy and with a extremely mild warmth...not even a burn. This is a try sipping neat whiskey and I'm very impressed with it. One of the best I've ever had. I drink Redemption, JB Black, JB Devils cut, Black Velvet, and JB double oak and several others but this one just jumps right into my top 5. Glad I saw that ad on the magazine and so glad I decided to try this one.
