Behringer x Air XR18 Digital Mixer
Find out what hundreds of thousands of studio and live sound engineers, DJs, MCs, and musicians already know. Behringer’s XR Air series of digital mixers eliminate the need for a bulky mixing desk, effects rack, mic snake, or system slowing plug-ins in one rugged stage box/rack-mountable solution. Connect your laptop, Android, iOS tablet, or smartphone via onboard Ethernet, USB, or onboard Wi-Fi to control the entire mixing environment from any part of the venue, including right on stage—a game-changing feature for live acts that perform without a dedicated sound engineer. Each channel features a pre-set enabled 4-band parametric EQ, low-cut filter, compressor, limiter, noise gate, and more. The 100-band RTA (real-time analyzer) acts like an extra hand at the board, helping you boost or cut frequencies on the edge of rumble or unwanted feedback. Award-winning virtual Midas pre-amps bring time-tested performance to your dynamic stage mics or high-end studio condensers. The on-board FX’s suite allows easy use of 4 (or 8 mono) simultaneous studio quality stereo modeling engines packed with digital delays, lexicon-designed reverbs, aural exciters, and more—plus several vintage styles, and 31-band parametric Equalization.

Think of buying something else!! XR18 relies on software control via tablet, phone or PC. Tthe built in wifi to connect to this is useless even when you are in the same room with it. May connect for a few minutes...then break. Forget it in a practice situation let aone gig. Other metods of connection (including hardwire!) are let down by the software app provided...X Air. Useless and dosn't work with apple. In android you just can't connect all the time. Shame on Behringer - fales advertising and taking money from people without providing a working product!

Thanks to Covid we started doing church services outside. Moving our large Soundcraft outside each week we picked up the XR18. Last year I bought the MR12 to temporarily replace a TouchMix 16 at work that was in for service. The MR12 performed so well that it has permanently replaced the TouchMix.With the XR18 at church it's the same story. I'm mixing a livestream each week on a 24 channel Soundcraft SI Expression and although it's a decent mixer frankly I just don't care for it. It's software is not nearly as intuitive as the Behringer and its hard-knee compressor just destroys the audio whereas the Behringer is nearly transparent. The mic preamps sound great, the entire unit has lots of headroom, and the apps work very well.Like others have said, WiFi can be an issue depending non where it's used. Last weekend the mixer was about 18" from a metal storage container and a large electrical transformer and didn't work well, losing connection with an iPad and Microsoft Surface Pro. Next weekend we will use a separate WiFi router with CAT 5 for backup.I've also mixed on Yamaha TF series mixers for both live and streaming applications. The TF series is quite nice, but having used both I believe I'd take the Behringer.

If space is often a struggle at your gigs this is a great solution, it’s got a very small footprint for the amount of inputs and it’s packed full of features. I often don’t have the option to have my mixer front of house but with this I can set it up neatly out of the way and mix freely from anywhere in the room with the iOS software, which seems easy enough for a novice to navigate but is also packed with features and options for the more experienced of us too. The software has been very responsive so far with minimal lag and the WiFi range is quite good, though for larger spaces with lots of WiFi traffic I’ll be using a separate router just to be safe anyway. It’s lightweight but still feels rugged and well built enough to deal with life on the road and regular ... I’ll be using the X Touch controller with it too for certain applications and that offers lots of room for expansion and can be hard wired to the X18 via an Ethernet cable so it doesn’t have to rely on WiFi as a fall back option. The only negative I have for it so far is that I’d like to see the option of having rubber feet to help stop it sliding on a flat surface. (Not that I’ve had this problem yet) but this is a mod you could easily do yourself if you’re not squeamish with a drill, or you could always glue some on for a less permanent option. All in all, if you’re looking to dip a toe in to the wireless mixing world you can’t really go wrong with one of these.

Decided recently to upgrade my existing PA system with a now very popular digital stagebox mixer. I gig in a two different 3 piece bands and wanted to try 'in ear' monitoring to improve our playing and our audio consistency for live gigs. I also use a BeatBuddy drum pedal which I hook up to the mixer also. The drum pedal is very good at reproducing an authentic real drummer but it doesn't surround your on stage sound like a real drumkit would. This has meant on stage monitor for the drum beat reference and works well but with the rising popularity of 'in ear' monitoring wanted to give them a go. I did quite a bit of research into different mixer options of which there are many. The reviews for the different types and makes in almost all cases showed the Behringer XR18 to be the most popular choice and after a search for the best price available found one at Andertons. After payment was expecting it to take beyond the weekend for it to arrive. It was actually delivered on the Saturday of the weekend which was absolutely great. XR18 is probably a bit overkill for a 3 piece band but realised the XR 12 and 16 are not that much smaller and if I should need it there would be the capacity for a band with more members. I have not as yet used it for a gig but have a bandmate who has bought one also. His band audio has improved without doubt and each different gig audio has been very good. I have gigs coming up and can't wait to use mine. The only issue I have had at all is that there is a bit of a learning curve to using the software to take full advantage of the many, many settings and pre gig adjustments. I have been doing this by setting it up for rehearsals with my bands and gradually getting closer to understanding it's huge capabilities and adjustments. So far I am very pleased with my choice. Absolutely sure it will sound as awesome as my mates when we get out there. Many thanks Andertons. Great bit of kit. A real game changer.
This Berringer XR-18 is unbelievably easy to learn how to use. Very little learning curve. Im told by many that the onboard modem does not work well. I think they are right. I couldnt get it to connect to see if it stayed connected, but had a modem, hooked it up and it works perfect! I have yet to hear any white noise or hum. Built in effects are more than adequate and many options!
I wanted to like this mixer, it has several positive aspects: it's relatively inexpensive for the stated specs, light weight, has reasonable audio and useful mixer functionality. It has very few mechanical knobs/switches/sliders to break. It has 16 fully function channels and 2 somewhat limited functionality channels.Since there are only 3 controls on the unit, it must be controlled by remote devices such as a laptop, tablet, phone etc. via the included WiFi or Ethernet (and provided apps) which should allow for relatively increased functionality and convenience but the mixer WiFi falls to maintain reliable connections which is a significant problem. Both the WiFi Client or WiFi Access Point (AP) functions connections drop frequently and often won't restart ... It happens so often that there is little choice but to add an external router or AP. But even this is not a sure fix, in my experience the hardwired Ethernet port will occasionally drop so there is not 100% certainty that you will always have access to the mixer when it matters. It is a bit surprising that Behringer did insufficient testing to insure that a reliable connection is possible given that the remote connection is necessary. WiFi is a well established technology, nearly every smart phone after 2013 has very good WiFi and most support 5GHz (not the XR18). Behringer fumbled this.If the WiFi could be fixed by firmware it would have been by now. I (as others) returned mine.

You can't trust the WiFi to work reliably. The AP function only supports WEP encryption which is very weak security (essentially none). What ever you connect to (tablet etc.) will have to access via WEP and will be vulnerable to security attacks so it had better not be a device with any personal info, passwords etc. The WiFi client mode does have WPA2 but the connection is quite unreliable, the routers can see connect but the application see the connection drop frequently, even in low interference circumstances. Note to that the WiFi is only 2.4GThe Ethernet connection works OK so you can connect to an Access Point (AP) reliably but that is an additional expense another item to carry and maintain. Secure AP's are not that inexpensive. You could connect it to a router but then the control device will need to that router and they usually means the control device can't access other WiFi connections. It would be better to use a mixer that has decent WiFi or some other reliably connect to the control surface of interest. A Soundcraft Ui24R is a better bet. The extra cost is worth the reliability. Also it has a web server so the control surface only needs to run a web browser to control it no, other software.
I cant emphasize how much control you have. Its a mind boggling amount of control. Gate, EQ, Pan, Busses, DCA's, FX, etc. Wish I could load more than 4 effects at a time, but the ones i get to choose from are insane quality, including: BBE Sonic Maximizer, Leslie Rotary Speaker, De-esser and compression, a handful of reverbs, amp/tube simulators, vintage rack equipment, and moreI can save my settings for each band setup or each venue, then recall them instantly. Or share them on the behringer website, like a patch for multieffects pedal. Previously Id have to take a picture of the board knobs and hope to achieve the same results as the last time I played that venue. Being able to control it all wireless from the ipad is a plus. The only piece of audio equipment I use in addition to this mixer the DB Driverack PA2 for PA speaker management, which allows me to use the Aux outs on the mixer for stage monitors, implement a mids & sub crossover, and use RTA to eliminate feedback frequencies from the mics. The x18 can do a crossover but it cannot do any feedback suppression. Also have each band member buy their own Powerplay personal monitor mixer for digitally distributed mixing of personal monitors, which also has a mind boggling amount of control over each personal mix.If youve never owned or used a mixer, dont start with this digital unit because i felt like all my analog knowledge was a prerequisite for stepping up to Digital. Analog is just so simple and limited for learning to mix. Even with all my analog knowledge there was a full 2-3 days worth of wrapping my mind around all the new digital controls just to get it set up and ready to play. I studied the manual for a month before actually purchasing to make sure it had the features i wanted. After the product arrived and i had a chance to actually plug in, I was still was like, "whoa, this is a lot to take in."
