I bought a pair of these to help with dismantling and reassembling some chairs. They work well, and the ability to switch quickly between spreading and clamping is a real advantage.this design of clamp does not provide high pressure, but on the other hand the light weight is a plus when applying a number of clamps to a workpiece.the toggle releasing the pressure works well; the changeover knob (clamping/spreading) does not feel very positive and one wonders about the reliability of the concealed mechanism. I do hope the bessey reputation for quality will be borne out by a long service life.these are useful clamps, and i shall buy some more.

Been wanting these for a while, having been used to Irwin Clamps(which have done me well) these are very much in a different class, which is what you pay for, very pleased

For wood, they're pretty good, dirt cheap compared to a metalworking clamp, so I'm a bit biased. As a result, If I haven't blown over 50 quid on a clamp, it can't be that good, so Wrong. They have a few bells and whistles, the jaws can be turned around and they will push and pull. Also, the jaws are double-ended, not worked out why yet, but I've only had them 15 years or so.I have used them to jack a cupboard up for fixing on a wall. I've used them to pull stuff square and clamp up when glueing, even clamped straight edges when ripping. A really versatile clamp and hard-wearing if treated fairly. They don't clamp as hard as a screw clamp, not far off though. The fact they can clamp at any size without complex adjustmets is a boon. People tend to overlook the need ... A really useful clamp, the one handed operation really makes many task so much easier.
I I have mixed feelings about this clamp and could not decide if I would recommend it or not. I like the clamp, the design and its function, but they have to design the inside mechanism better. As you're pulling the Trigger to tighten your project, the inside mechanism is plastic that pulls down onto the springs. Well it tends to break in there, making it useless.
I have these DuoKlamps along with a whole lot of other Bessey clamps. All are quality and have just about solved all my clamping necessities. The DuoKlamps act as spreaders as well as holding things together. I sent a pair to my S.I.L. and he wasted no time in sending me a pic of on of his projects!
First off, let me say I love Bessey Duo-Clamps! This 24" is no exception. It really has a 25.5" throat that allows you to use cauls when you clamp 24" face frames! The one-handed operation is the best feature, though! It allows you to steady your work with one hand while you work the clamp with the other! And, it turns to a spreader with a simple turn of the button!
Overall this is a great clamp that is built to work well. Its well designed to be used as a clamp or a spreader. The first thing I tried with this clamp is to take two 1" thick x 6" wide x 12 long boards that were bowed about 1/2". I placed them face to face with the bow outward and see if this clamp would pull it together so it could be glued up and sure enough it worked and it did it with ease. This clamp is strong, it slides easily into position then clamps tight and positive.Turning the clamp into a spreader was as easy as moving the cushioning feet into the other side of the clamping feet and turning the dial to the spreading function. In this configuration the clamp works well in the first 12". Over 12" the bar starts to bow and apply force in a diagonal ... MoreOverall this is a great clamp that is built to work well. It clamps as hard as you can squeeze the handles and holds that force. The clamp releases just as easy as it tightens down. Love this clamp since it can be used with just one hand.
This is a good clamp, but the straight handle design is harder to use than the pistol grip type bar clamps. Since most uses for a clamp are horizontal a pistol grip works well. The straight handle of this clamp us better to be used in a verticals position. The big problem I have this this clamp is the release mechanism. It's on the other side from the clamping handle so one handed operation is difficult. With the pistol grip type I could normally get the clamp to extend and then clamp down all with one hand. The feature of reversing to a spreader is very easy, just turn a knob. This is much better than the other brands when the end needs to be unlocked and lined up on the other side. Unfortunately spreading accounts for about 5% or less of my clamping needs so ... Unfortunately spreading accounts for about 5% or less of my clamping needs so this benefit does not out weigh the other faults. As for clamping power, I set this one up to try and spread a pistol grip type clamp and this one won out, with a little more force. So it wins on reversibility and strength, but is not as good for one handed operation and the release mechanism. It's not a bad clamp by any means, but I would recommend buying one of the pistol grip types.
nothing comes close to this design, functionality and quality. They are expensive but every bit counts. These are my everyday go to clamps. -R
