I am surprised by this product, did not expect it to become my favourite headphone so soon. I have purchased a lot of planar headphones from Hifiman and also posses the most famous HD600. Most of the above said headphones demand a lot in terms of Amps & DAC. Even though it is being sold as reference headphone for mastering I feel it is very musical, the instrument placement is so well defined and tone is very smooth, treble is not the regular Beyerdynamic!! and has enough grunt on the low end. To top it all it is so easy to drive, I find it so enjoyable just with Apple C dongle & USB Audio player pro exclusive mode on an Android phone. When I put it on my desktop rig it is up there with the high end end phones. These are excellent headphones. The sense of spaciousness for headphones is great. If you listen to a lot of acoustic music, love a huge range of voices, and like to feel like you're right there in the room with Miles Davis, these are the headphones for you. I suspect not for those who love doof doof - not that there's anything wrong with that. They deal beautifully with ambient and neo-classical, as well as vintage techno and trance. Be warned, they will spoil you for crappy audio.

It's really 4 1/2 stars only because there is a known fault in the cable connector in the headphones. It cuts out when you move sometimes but an email to BeyerDynamic with receipt and serial number gets a speedy replacement of the 2 cables and i had a bonus 3m coiled cable too. Perfect now. Sound quality as simple as I can. amazing. Compared to DT990 80ohm which I have.. in simple terms more bass..better flatter frequency response.. less of the shrill Beyer peak around the 7k to 10khz mark which I am grateful for and a slight rise in the upper treble like cymbals etc.. which I can now hear more clearly. Great sound stage and imaging.. voices sound amazing. I am 62 and my hearing is bad in the upper treble hence these suit me with the slight rise in the upper treble ... MoreIt's really 4 1/2 stars only because there is a known fault in the cable connector in the headphones. These could be my final headphones to keep. I've been through many. They seemed to get better after after several hours of use. Whether people think its your brain adjusting to the sound or the electrical properties and the driver settling in, who knows. Store Dj were great too.

This is absolutely a wonderful headphone and can easily be driven by a PC or a mobile phone. This is a "open headphone". If you are new to Open-headphones, you might be bit disappointed. No noise isolation or separation.Nice and solid build; no fatigue in hearing for one or two hours. Does not cause headache or pain in the ear.The sound is not neutral/flat. However, if you use it with Sonarworks SoundID, it produces a near-flat sound. In addition, if you connect with a decent DAC (in my case Pro-ject), it produces a wonderful and pleasing sound. you can increase the volume without stressing the speakers.Definitely, worth for the money. If you got more money to spend, include a quality DAC along the chain (and don't go for an expensive headphone).
Its built like a tank, feels substancial in hand and comfortable to wear in general, but clamp force might be too strong for some, and the earcups might touch the top and bottom for your ears.Requires a little bit of EQ to make the treble less harsh, but after that it is spectacular.Vocals are clear and crisp, and bass is fast and precise. Soundstage is not expansive, but its good for this price range. Wouldn't buy anything else in this budget.
It is a must have for those who care for the audio and are ready to go any extent. The headphones when removed from the box felt a bit heavy, but I am wearing them for hours on end and i don't feel the weight. A good source is a must. I have paired it with Astell & Kern PEE51, with a PC running ROON. The holographic imaging is amazing, straight out of the box. And in my opinion it WILL get better as i burn it in. Instruments have amazing texture and bite. My earlier IEM are RHA T20, the sound stage of the Beyerdynamic is super huge in comparison. The only thing i was apprehensive is whether a open back headphones will have the bass, and I can say it is deep and full bodied.Type of music - Jazz, Blues, Indian classical, RockA note for HEADPHONE ZONE. Great for critical listening, a high quality music library is a must (320k MP3 or better). They have a very even profile with a treble bump that's not as high as many other Beyerdynamic models. The pads are firm and even, so with glasses you don't lose bass. I think they should sound pretty consistent because of the way they fit (not like mushy memory foam which can vary the sound stage). They aren't difficult to drive, on the phone they got loud but on the amp/dac stack they really showed off the detail they can reveal. It's good for a music lover who doesn't want to buy an amplifier, at 45 ohm it's not needed. They scale with the quality of what you plug them into, so pretty future-proof. These I'd be happy to wear in public too, really sleek looking.
These headphones are a decent price, and I believe that the price to performance is outstanding. They are incredibly comfortable and the build feels like they would last decades. They are incredibly sturdy and never fall of the head. I will say that I have only had them for a few weeks and of course things could change in a few more weeks or months, but I think that they will last way longer. Also the sound is noticeably better. (At least from my previous headphones) its like buying a $10-$20 pair of headphones to a $400-$500 pair of headphones. Incredible. Then again, I mean come on... its Beyerdynamic...
I’m a Bolly-Wood Film Editor, and was looking for a new pair of headphones for video editing. Wanted something which was accurate while editing spoken dialgies but also packed a good punch while editing music. Basically a great all rounder. Was first looking at Beyerdynamic 990 Pro@250 Ohms. But then on furthur research landed on the DT 900 PROX. The 48 Ohms impedence was a major factor. As a result I can get the ‘intended’ audio from my Mac Studio or on a MacBook Pro on the road.Audio Quality - Coming to the sound quality, it is simply fantastic. ‘Spacious’ is the word I’ll use along with ‘balanced’. These pair are very balanced indeed. Accurate for critical listening, but also very enjoyable while working with music (especially lossless tracks on Apple Music).Comfort - 10/10. What can I say, these are simply the best set of headphoens I’ve ever adorned as far as comfort is concerned. I can, and am wearing them for 12+hours (which is a typical work day) without any fatigue whatsoever. Some reviews had stated that the ‘clamping force is high, but I really dont think so. These are darn comfortable.Durability/Build Quality - Again, one of my major reaosns to go for Beyerdyanmic was the build quality. I really do intend to use these headphones for 12-15 years. Keeping that in mind, the detachable cable along with replacable ear cups and head bands go a long way in ensuring the longivity of the product. Build quality too is absolutely top-notch. They are about 8k+ over the tried and tested DT 770 and 990, but trust me, it’s well worth paying extra, especially if ‘longetivity’ is your concern. These are my first Beyerdynamics. Had tried my brothers (Music Composer) DT 770 Pro and was impressed. But these are definately better, without a shadow of a doubt. If you are looking for a Beyerdynamic (770 or 990), then just go ahead and spend a bit more extra, you will not regret it at all.
I use these for critical mixing and for listening pleasure, mainly for classical and choir music. The stereo placement is superb. They are very efficient and so may need some form of attenuation with some sources but for most mixing desks and portable equipment they are just right.Don’t expect artificial bass boom as they are for professional recording and hifi listening. With the ability to change cables, brilliant build quality and excellent environmental credentials, these are a bargain and highly recommended.
