I watched a couple of reviews before purchasing this, as they mentioned, the the bass isn't quite clear, maybe below 100hz, even if you are sitting in a quite room, or maybe it's just soft sounding. The high treble between 7-9k has a little extra boost, so the drum cymbals shine with sparkle, that could be annoying sometimes. Overall, I can say if you've just started mixing for a year to two definitely go for this to understand how an open back headphones functions. I'm gonna spend more time using it and I think it's gonna stay longer with me now. Gotta learn every bit of it so to compare.

Better opt for a 990 Pro x or 1990 Pro

The 990 pro i received is extremely harsh on the higher frequencies, practically unbearable for me out of the box. After 50 hours of burn-in it did get smoothened slightly, however still harsh for my choice (i have not been using this for 50 hours so no question of me getting adapted). Not sure will the highs ever smoothen out to enjoyable level. Frankly speaking a too over-hyped model. I would also like to mention i have tried them on both SS & Tube Headphone amplifiers capable of handling 1W headphones (both world class amplifiers). So not an issue with insufficient power availability. What's the point of judging the other factors of a headphone if its unbearable at certain frequencies.

Brand new with a messy box. That's all

When I was shopping for something more dialled towards "audiophile-grade" I was constantly recommended Beyer Dynamic, and more specifically, the DT-990 Pro. I have to say, it's just fantastic for what you expect. Nice reference sound (I have personally EQ'd to be closer to Harman Target and it sounds beautiful) and pleasant at high volume. Lots of detail and a wide sound stage. It was between these and the closed-back DT-770 Pro's, but I'm glad I went with these. Everything is serviceable and replaceable, as well as built well. I highly recommend if you're looking for a start in the audiophile world.

After 2 weeks of continuous use I am truly amazed by these headphones. Initially the sound, especially the treble was too harsh on my ears and the sound stage was in your head type. But after almost 50 hours of burning the treble has tamed a little bit and sounds perfectly fine now. The soundstage has also opened up. The sound is a little V shaped and mids are not bad but decent and so is the timbre. Instrument separation and details are the segment where these cans shine and outperforms almost all other headphones in this price range. Coming to amplification it needs a decent amplifier to not only increase its volume but also to increase the overall sound quality and soundstage. Coming to comfort, these are very comfortable to the point that you will forget that they are on your head and the clamping force is just perfect. The design is also great and it is built to last decades. These are best suited for mixing/mastering, gaming & movies and not the best for music listening but decent enough. So finally I would like to conclude that if you have the money to spend, go for these.

Verdict: FANTASTIC!!!Build quality and comfort:I found the build quality to be great at this price point. It has a metal chassis, adjusting the height needs a bit of force and is not the smoothest. It takes a while to get them in position, but once in position it remains there. The ear cups are quite soft and the clamping force is neither too low nor too high. Overall, these are a comfortable pair of headphones. Both the ear cups and headband cover are replaceable. So we don't have to lose sleep over damaging the ear cups or tearing the headband.Sound:As someone who plays musical instruments and pays attention to notes of all the instruments in songs, I just love these headphones. Although these are 250 ohms, my desktop and laptop were able to power these quite comfortably, so an amp is not a must. Given it's price tag, these headphones are a no brainer. Arguably the best beginner audiophile headphones. The best 12,500/- I've spent this year!

So I grabbed these after a recording friend of mine highly recommended. I'm a player, but don't know too much about recording so I bought these straight off his recommendation as a solid pair of headphones since much of my time is spent listening to music at work.Like other posters indicated, my box came damaged since it was packed in the original packaging inside a fed-ex bag. Ok so the outside box looked like it had been kicked down the street, but the internal packaging and the headphones did not have any damage and were stable.First impressions were they are solidly made, VERY comfortable and have incredible sound. I have my laptop and windows media cranked up all the way, so I'm curious how loud they can go through other conduits. Even cranked up all the way, the sound does not distort and is quite pleasant. No ear blow out here.Despite being open backed, as I ran through different albums the bass is fine and totally acceptable. I played a few of the old school bass tracks by DJ Magic Mike to give them a test and for normal audio play they are totally sufficient.I was lucky to grab these at the $119 price, so I'm beyond satisfied despite the box issues. My buddy was right...grab a pair. Can't wait to run my guitars through these!!

Great mid-range detail and very comfortable
19 January 2022

As a sound engineer I find these valuable when mixing. They give plenty of mid-range detail and a great stereo image. They will reveal any issues with your live instrument recording or vocala, highlighting distortion or unpleasant sibilance. Also great for detailing ambience and reverb. The high frequencies are too brittle for my liking however. So I adopted the classic NS10 trick and put two layers of tissue tucked inside each ear cup. This tames the high-end and makes them much less fatiguing for long listening periods. These should not be used as your only monitor source. Compare them with other speakers or headphones. They probably tend to separate out the individual sound sources more than most people's listening device so will not give an accurate indication ...Ā MoreAs a sound engineer I find these valuable when mixing. Shine on your crazy DT

This is my brothers view, after gifting him who is an architect by profession and also plays bass guitar for the prog/djent band RONIN, In and he uses these cans mostly for demo mixing and critical listening (at-least that was his intention.)Now based on his experience I’ve listed down the Pros and Cons,Pros:1. Extremely bright sounding. Sometimes too bright for your liking if you are coming from common consumer friendly headphones. Give it some times to burn, it will shine.2. The bass is there, and its about just the right amount. Its not muddy or do not bleed into the mids.3. Mids are hyper detailed. Also, the frequency separation is mesmerizing. The build quality pretty good (as expected from in this price point.)Cons:1. These are some power-hungry cans (250 Ohms. which is technically not a con) since its target use case is mostly to be used with professional studio equipment. If you are planning to use it in your home setup like me, it will work fine if you hook it up to some decent soundcard.2. Casual music listening might be challenging if you are planning to drive them from your PC or Mobile only. It will run, but not in its full potential. Which might lead you to hate these. A cheap but good DAC like IFI Zen Air DAC can help a lot if you are not planning to spend a fortune. Some might say ā€œIt will lack power or you should go for something more powerful like FiiO - K5 Pro ESS.ā€ But trust me, you do not need that. If you are not convinced go to any online headphone power calculator and see for yourself, its science. Do not fall for the audiophile myth crap.3. Though the classic tracks and modern pop tracks sounds fabulous, some modern metal tracks might not sound that nice, especially the low tuned guitars (tuned in Drop G, F or E0) are sometimes very difficult to be handled by it.4. Last but not the least, it should have a replaceable cable system. Don’t think the existing cable is bad. They are sturdy and thick, but it will break at some point of time. Also it’s not always very comfortable to have a coiled cable dangling from your left earcup. The coiled cables are heavy and they have their specific purpose, which you might not need all the time.

The best headphones for advanced mixing!
3 February 2022

I am a pro music producer and own a range of headphones alreadyI had been using the Audio Tehnica ATH-m50x for a long time but I really hate the comfort of those, they are hard as rocks and very tight too, not good for long mixing sessions, and the sound stage is also very colored and even after 3 years of learning the frequency curve of those, you just cant make good mixing decisions, but they are OK for tracking and recording. My fav headphones so far are the ATH-M35 even tho they are way cheaper, a bit softer on the ears, they have such good frequency response and such a forward but clear midrange, totally opposite to most studio headphones out there...Enough about those guys, I got the Beyerdynamic DT990 PROs for mainly long extended mixing sessions and these ...Ā MoreI am a pro music producer and own a range of headphones alreadyI had been using the Audio Tehnica ATH-m50x for a long time but I really hate the comfort of those, they are hard as rocks and very tight too, not good for long mixing sessions, and the sound stage is also very colored and even after 3 years of learning the frequency curve of those, you just cant make good mixing decisions, but they are OK for tracking and recording. My fav headphones so far are the ATH-M35 even tho they are way cheaper, a bit softer on the ears, they have such good frequency response and such a forward but clear midrange, totally opposite to most studio headphones out there...Enough about those guys, I got the Beyerdynamic DT990 PROs for mainly long extended mixing sessions and these are actually my favorite now for everything! The comfort is like having two pillows on your head, and I've read that some find the clamping force too much? Not at all guys! Its so soft that you wont even notice you're wearing headphones! The soundstage is a bit opposite to the ATH-M35s, but I prefer that and I use a mix of both during mixing and mastering. The M35s can show me the overall balance of a song, I make tonal mixing decisions with those. But the Beyerdynamics have a bit of a harsh high-end which is totally perfect for identifying problems in a mix and due to the awesome stereo imaging (cause it's open-back) I can place instruments very easily in the stereo space. Its hands-down wayyy better than the M50x for anything besides recording, which is the only use for those rn.If you're mixing mainly on headphones then I'd say(1) use any good closed-back for recording, something with a lot of color and hype so that u enjoy the music and get a good take.(2) Then use the Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro for production, making synths, recording MIDI drums or even electric guitars and stuff, basically the bulk of messing around with sounds, doing sound design and stuff.(3) Check the mix every once in a while with a flat response headphone, something that's not from Beyerdynamic and which doesn't have the awesome highs like the DT990 pro (for example, ATH-M35)(4) Basically continue your whole mix in these (DT 990 Pro)(5) Check on consumer devices like very cheap bluetooth speakers and Samsung earplugsand you will get a very good production which translates well everywhere!Really loving these headphones, do listen to movie soundtracks from Netflix (Squid Game sounds really awesome!) and also Anime soundtracks like Kimi No Nawa and stuff on theseThere's a link somewhere of the music I mixed with these, do check that out! Thanks a ton!Stay safe and keep makin music!: )

The stereo separation is not great, trying to listen to individual instruments in any track is quite hard. and there is little feeling of a soundstage. The idea that the music is spread "around you" rather just pointing at your ears. Still. The build quality is great - impressive at the price. Here it is, i'm listening to a bad recoding but thru Sennheiser hd560s's at the moment - the 560s are worse in built quality to the dt990pro in almost every regard, but do sound better. Most of my problems are gone with the HD560s .... But. the dt990pro is £100, the HD560s is £140... AND THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPROTANT: the beyer dt900 prox is £210, the Grado 325e is £280 [?] i haven't heard the dt900 pro x, but i have heard the grado 325. it was massively superior in every way: no exception. How much do you want to spend? If your limit is £100. the Dt990 pro would be a good comfortable well mad friend for your ears. And as for money? gosh, i shouldn't talk about it these days. But i guess there are even better headphones at insane prices. Set your budget. Stick to it.
