Highly recommended, detailed but smooth sound, so no piercing highs with good punchy bass. Pads are smaller than expected but can be replaced with aftermarket pads. Very pleased with Audiologica for fast despatch.

AAA *****SUPERB ! The customer service , advice, help & delivery from Richard was impeccable , as I have experienced over the last 10 years or so ----ordered circa 4:30 pm & arrived by late morning next day. These headphones are excellent high quality instruments giving the close HiFi experience that I hoped for running directly from my Marantz SACD player's internal headphone amp.Thank you ,Richard

I have several high quality headphones: Beyerdynamic T1 Gen 2, Audeze LCD2 and Sennheiser 650. I also have a Burson Conductor DAC/Amp and a Bottlehead Crack valve headphone amp (with all upgrades) that I built myself. I have listened carefully to all 3 headphones using both headphone amps (can’t use the LCD2s with the Crack as their impedance is too low). I can categorically state that the Beyerdynamic cans are without doubt the the best. Their sound is glorious with great bass and a seductive mid range. Their ability to retrieve detail is incredible and those who like to hear usually inaudible studio background noise, such as pages turning or a quiet aside from one muso to another, will be in for a treat with these headphones. The only drawback, and it is a very insignificant one, is that at 600ohm impedance those buying these cans will need to use a dedicated headphone amp, and a high quality one at, that to fully appreciate their abilities. I bought these on a whim at a store promotion where I received a big discount. I’m glad I did as they are the best headphones I have ever listened to. Highly recommended.

In balanced this is a superb headphone just behind my Focal Utopia for detail.Important to use a decent amp to understand what this headphone can do. It is not a poor mans HD800 it’s far more musical - fantastic with rock and Jazz. Just make sure you listen to well recorded music as it is very revealing. Single ended is excellent too, however in balanced it’s true capability’s shine forth. In the up to $1500 headphone category very few real challengers. If you can get this for $1100 a real bargain for the all round quality. I have thus far tested T1 with FLAC/HiRez files ripped to Sony Walkman in Sony dock USB in to headphone amp/dac RME ADI Pro FS balanced input.

I have been using this newest open backed Beyerdynamic Tesla for a little over a year and have been quite pleased. Compared to the T1.2, the impedance and sensitivity are changed dramatically, and the tuning is wildly different. The T1.3 tuning is a bit controversial. Looking at the recessed mids, I am firmly convinced Beyer are accounting for loudness curves to facilitate pleasurable listening at lower volumes. They have also introduced a great deal of lower mid warmth/bloom, which may be to try to cover some of the coloration people liked from OTL Tube amps paired with the older 600 ohm models (no longer possible).I quite like the tuning, but I would also not part with the more traditional T1.2.It's also disappointing that Beyer have reduced their warranty from 5 ... MoreI have been using this newest open backed Beyerdynamic Tesla for a little over a year and have been quite pleased. It's ironic, but my T1.2 will remain on warranty for several years after these newer ones are no longer covered. That said these are incredibly sturdy, especially for a luxury TOTL model such as this.

Only a week old, but I really hope these headphones run in well. The sound is too boomy at above moderate volume and there is some distortion too.I am comparing them to my T5 2nd gen headphones which despite being closed back, sound more like open backs compared to the T1’s which simply shouldn’t be the case, run in or not! Hoping for a big improvement.

Good, open soundstage for closed backs
7 July 2021

I consider myself a bit of a bass head and own two other pairs of closed backs, the Ultrasone Pro 900 S-Logic, which I consider the bassiest things I've ever heard (but not garbage muddy bass) and the Drop x Fostex TR-X00 Ebony. I would actually say that this has less bass than either of those, but the bass is of a higher quality. It definitely has wider soundstage, more akin to open back headphones (but obviously not AS open). It is currently my favorite of the three, and really should be given the price point. Another pro is that these are really easy to drive at 32 ohms.Build quality is excellent and the earpads are replaceable (I believe they're protein leather so they may wear after awhile). They are also very light, I have worn them through an entire work ... MoreI consider myself a bit of a bass head and own two other pairs of closed backs, the Ultrasone Pro 900 S-Logic, which I consider the bassiest things I've ever heard (but not garbage muddy bass) and the Drop x Fostex TR-X00 Ebony. Being closed backs they isolate very well. One major gripe I have is that the stock cable is total garbage and tangles for no real reason, it also didn't come with a balanced cable. The good news is that the earcups take 3.5mm so sourcing a balanced aftermarket cable was relatively inexpensive and easy.I also received one pair previously with a dead right side driver. At this price tier I think included accessories and quality control should be a little better.

Great TOTL Closed Back
8 March 2022

Beyerdynamic have always mentioned to muster incredible airiness and scale in their closed backs, this despite having some very nice isolation. This new T5 is no exception, and represents a more iterative generation change compared to the T1.3.Well built, beautiful, great sounding headphone, awesome service from Audio46 as always.

Proabably the best headphone you'll never buy.
23 February 2022

I bought this on a whim and it really paid off. The tuning is very different but the sound quality is amazing! The bass is to die for. This is a headphone made for pure enjoyment than analytical listening. Try it before you buy but I'm sure you won't be disappointed with it! 😎

Totally worth the price tag!!
9 December 2020

I am absolutely loving my new Beyerdynamic T5’s. I am an audio engineer and it’s been hard to take these off once I start listening! Make sure to buy a balanced replacement cable as I hope that you are listening to these headphones on the proper device. Do not purchase these if you are just listening on your iPhone. You will need a decent amp to bring out the full body of the T5!
