Despite its extremely light weight, the Tiger Wall UL 1 tent from Big Agnes offers you plenty of space and manages to increase your comfort on routes. On the one hand, you don't have to carry much, and on the other, you have plenty of space to spread out at night. The freestanding tent benefits from a clever pole construction. Not only does it make the tent super easy to pitch, it also raises the walls steeply, creating more space inside. For excellent organization, the inner tent has various mesh compartments and hanging loops for your small items. The side entrance with vestibule makes it easy to get in, gives you enough space for your rucksack and allows you to cook from the comfort of your tent. The entrance is also built in such a way that you can get in and out of the tent in the rain without it raining in. Despite its lightweight construction, the Tiger Wall UL 1 tent is surprisingly robust. The new HyperBead material manages the feat of being lighter, but at the same time more robust and waterproof than its predecessor. Furthermore, it has a very high-quality coating so that you can use the tent carefree for 3 seasons. Another practical feature of the Tiger Wall is that you can pitch only the inner or only the outer tent separately. This gives you many options depending on the weather. A useful addition is the separately available groundsheet, which provides extra protection and also completely covers the vestibule.

Dislike non-adjustable footbox staking

I ordered this tent and set it up in my living room, and immediately returned it and ordered the copper spur. You have to stake out the footbox of this tent in two places, however, the chords that run from the footbox are NOT adjustable at all and are a fixed length, meaning if you don’t get an absolutely perfect stake, you have to re-stake it instead of just adjust. For me, an extra 4 ounces for the copper spur fully free standing tent was immediately worth it. Also, the material of the tiger wall is incredibly thin. The tiger wall is made of 15D fabric, while the copper spur is a blend of 15d and 20D fabric. From setting up both tents in my living room, I noticed a difference in durability for sure. I can understand the choices they made with the tiger wall, thinner fabric and non-adjustable cords, in order to save 4oz from the copper spur 1p. Because who in their right mind would by the semi freestanding tent if the freestanding one was practically the same weight? But I don’t like the sacrifice in terms of durability and adjustments while staking out the footbox. It’s a well designed tent and if you are super into weight savings and good at staking, I would still recommend this tent. But to me it is not worth the hassle for 4oz.

Gives you room to splay but is light as a feather.

I owned the 2p version of this model and loved it but sold it when I needed to raise money for a trip. When I saved up enough cash, I was going to repurchase the 2p version to use as a 1P tent again. I then saw the 1P model and looked at its measurements. I used a tape measure to outline it's dimensions on my floor and found that it was actually pretty spacious for a 1P. I decided to go with the 1P. It's great. It fits my 65L pack easily in the vestibule and it's roomy enough for a long wide pad. Rear corner guys on the fly are not adjustable which can result in a bit of sag by morning. Not that it has ever mattered since I've always woken up dry.2. The fly zipper is somewhat of a reach when you are closing up for the night.3. The fly zipper sometimes catches. This seems to be the going rate on most ultralight materials since they are thin by nature.Like I said, I will gladly live with these things for the wonderful trade offs the Tiger Wall provides. I'm really glad that I was able to get the Tiger Wall back into my gear closet and back on the trail.

At less than 2# this is definitely a UL tent. However, in achieving that objective it also has the typical issues of durability found with UL tents in general. Consequently, care needs to be taken in site selection and handling to reduce wear and tear. A ground cloth is a must to protect the bottom material. That said, the $60 price for the BA Footprint is ridiculous. There are several much less expensive options that fill the need. The setup is easy and intuitive. Overall the tent is sound in most weather. Extended high wind and downpours can cause problems if not securely staked out. The 8 stakes supplied are insufficient for extreme conditions, I recommend 4 additional stakes to fully stretch and support the tent during windy and wet conditions. With a $370 price I find it annoying that you need to pay for additional stakes that are necessary for a sound setup! At 6'-1" the tent is roomy enough to accommodate my length when laying flat or seated to change clothes. The full double wall design really aids in minimizing condensation issues. Overall this is a good UL 1 person tent. I use it in the mountains of Colorado and it supplies the required protection I need. That said it is a 1 person UL tent and has the design restrictions of that objective.

Great little tent
16 August 2020

I've just spent a month on the trail and my Tiger Wall UL1 performed very reliably--one great little tent. It helps to have good staking space to get the non-freestanding end set up squarely, but otherwise it goes up incredibly easily, and all of the connection points are very solid. I'd prefer storage pockets on each side of the tent instead of overhead. My arms are short and don't reach the overhead pockets easily when I'm lying down--also the overhead pockets seem to catch every little bit of dirt! It's a small detail. If the small loop for holding back the fly were a tad longer, it would be easier to reach around and release without having to stick your head out. But again, these are all small details. Light, simple, fast

First time with Big Agnes for L.A.S.H.es (long-a-section hikes) on the AT. It's weight is excellent for my needs and the most practical feature of all is the ability to use the footprint and rain fly to keep the tent dry as you set up beneath. It's fast, efficient and allows me to carry my uber-stuffable down bag without concern for its getting wet. For a couple years, I went with a different tent, always heard about Big Agnes, and am glad I made the switch so far. The only reason I'm giving it four stars is because I haven't put it through too much yet. I'll report back at summer's end after another section hike with more about its durability. So far, it's held up great.

Lightweight but not durable

While this tent is awesome when it comes to weight and packability, it fails supremely in durability. I just used it on a six day backpacking trip in Sequoia Kings Canyon NP, and by day four, the rainfly had tiny little holes starting to appear. I babied this thing. I used a more durable footprint from another tent to protect the floor and rolled the tent up ever so gently on top of the footprint each day. Nonetheless, it still shows significant wear. I am just thankful that I had clear weather for my trip. I’m going to seam seal the worn areas and hope that I can still get some use out of it. I’ll probably carry it only when the weather is certain to be clear because I don’t trust that I can rely on it for rain protection. What good are all the environmental considerations taken into place when it was manufactured if the user has to buy another tent to stay dry?

I’ll preface by saying I’ve only been able to spend 3 nights in this tent. Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic really hit a week after I received it so this is not a long-term review. I was looking for a lightweight backpacking tent for when I was going to be out without my wife and dog. This tent fit the bill perfectly. It’s very light at 2lb 3 oz and has plenty of space inside for one person to fit comfortably. I'm 5'9, 170lbs and there's a good amount of room between my head and feet and the tent wall. My feet/sleeping bag do not touch the tent wall so worries about moisture being transferred. The structure of the tent allows plenty of headroom, more so than most 1 person tents I've looked at. Don't expect the kind of livability you'll get from a big 4-person car camping tent, but I would say it's the most livable 1 person tent I looked into. Plenty of interior pockets with a couple large overhead and a smaller one on the side by your head. For what it is, it’s hard for me to find anything to complain about. I would say that its two biggest downsides are the same as you'll find with any ultralight semi-freestanding tent. 1) the ground needs to be level ground to get the rainfly taught (especially applies to being able to fully utilize the vestibule), and 2) the lightweight materials aren't terribly durable. These fabrics are extremely light and do not feel very resilient. My tent has no spots but the stuff sack had a very small hole worn in it just from rubbing the inside of the cardboard box it was shipped in. Again, this is really a limitation of anything using fabric this light, but something to keep in mind. If was looking for a tent to use when I knew I was bringing my dog along, I would want something with some tougher materials, particularly on the floor. I ordered a footprint to use and would consider it a necessity. I could see some people having a gripe with the precut guy lines, but they haven't caused me any problems. I’m extremely happy with the tent and can’t wait to be able to get back out and put it through the ringer.

Before I take a new tent out I always give it a good rain test. As well as a sort of functions check. Super small. Smaller that the pictures, ridiculously thin. And the guy out lines and all honestly seem like they’d wear out in no time, cheap material. It was pretty weather proof however getting in while the fly is wet, it will undoubtedly slip between you and the inside and get rain on the tub. Trust me I tried to make sure it wouldn’t happen, yet it did, every time. You can say it’s mainly my fault for not reading reviews well enough . As you can see there’s someone who rated 5 stars as well as “roomy”. Never paid attention that they were 5’1 !! if you’re honestly over 5’8 I’d say get a 2p I don’t really know what I was thinking even with my experience. I backpack a lot and have been using the Fly Creek HV UL2 for years, but since I often sleep by myself, I wanted a 1 person tent. The main difference I noticed right off the bat was the space - the Tiger Wall tent has more space and I can sit up inside normally and still feel like there's plenty of room to move around (the fly creek is more of a pyramid design so it's hard to sit up fully near the back half of the tent, and only one person can really sit in there at a time). The wide side door on this tent also makes it easy for a friend to sit inside my tent with me to enjoy the views. The non-mesh part of the bottom part of the tent goes up higher on the Tiger Wall than the Fly Creek so it blocks more wind which is really nice, but I did notice the Tiger Wall ... MoreI backpack a lot and have been using the Fly Creek HV UL2 for years, but since I often sleep by myself, I wanted a 1 person tent. The wide side door on this tent also makes it easy for a friend to sit inside my tent with me to enjoy the views. The non-mesh part of the bottom part of the tent goes up higher on the Tiger Wall than the Fly Creek so it blocks more wind which is really nice, but I did notice the Tiger Wall doesn't hold up as well as the fly creek in strong winds which I thought it would... and I do wish the non-door side of the tent and rain fly has an optional attachment to pull out the tent (or more like secure it better in place) so the rain fly doesn't flap around as much in the wind. My first time using this tent was at about 12k feet and strong winds of 20-30 mph so it was def a rough night. All my experiences using it after with little to no wind were great!Overall, I absolutely love how light and easy the tent is to set up!!

Very lightweight tent for one person
24 November 2021

I get it, I get it. Ultra lightweight backpackers won't want this because it weighs a few ounces more than a true UL setup like a hammock or tarp. But...I've overnighted in rainstorms and windy conditions in mountainous areas and even when temperatures went below freezing in this tent and remained dry and comfortable. Much nicer to spend 12 hours in during a cold and wet night during the Canadian late fall days. After about 20 nights and 6ish trips, no damage to the tent, although I do baby it to some extent. Use the footprint as this material is very thin and you could easily damage the floor.
