Momentum 3s is OK, not too heavy, not too bulky, pretty comfy. But... 3 caveats:The waist belt buckle is very difficult to adjust as I am unable to pull it snug by simply pulling on the end of the webbing when the webbing is doubled back through the buckle; I end up needing to fiddle and do tricks to get the harness tight enough. The tabs on the waist belt buckle are too small as well and I cannot tighten or release with gloves on, even thin ones.Other attachment issue is the seat straps that hold up the leg loops - the tiny metal hook on the back of the harness that the loops attach to is so small and snugged up so tight against the bottom of the waist belt that I cannot remove or attach the seat straps without taking off the harness, which completely defeats ...Ā MoreMomentum 3s is OK, not too heavy, not too bulky, pretty comfy. Is this a top-rope only harness?

A great all around harness! i've been using it for about 3 months now for several outdoor all day climbing trips and at the gym 3-4 times a week. Its been comfortable for everything from rappelling to crack climbing. Its easy to fit in my bicycle bag and can tuck nicely into any of my backpack pockets. The gear hardpoints are well designed and the placement was clearly thought through. The right side hardpoints are great form my chalkbag and anchor kit as they are easy to access! My left side hardpoints work great for carrying quickdraws, ATCs or anything else I need!Great harness for climbers of every level while sport climbing. I would love to see a bit more ajustability in the leg loops but other than that wayyy better than the gym rentals i had been using before!

During hikes and backpacking trips we always end up climbing something, bouldering and rappelling something. I typically take my mountaineering harness (Petzl Altitude). It is so compact and light. It fits everywhere. But I wanted something still on the light side but more on the comfortable side. Don't get me wrong, the petzl altitude is awesome for mountaineering. But when you are climbing or anything in the middle of summer and have to hang with it for a while, it gets uncomfortable. So I ended up getting this one. It is a little more bulky than I wanted it to be but works. It is comfortable. It is a good beginner, entry level or climbing on a budget. I will recommend it more as an indoor, GYM sport climbing type of harness. The gear loops are asymmetric and sometimes it feels awkward on lead trad climbs. Due to that asymmetry it does not get a 5 stars from me. But I will definitely recommend it as an entry level.

It's pretty commonly accepted that the BD Momentum ought to be your first harness; either it or the Petzl Corax. I used both and found this one a little more comfortable in the legs when hanging, FWIW. The ONLY reason I dinged it one star is because of the single waist buckle; which, if you are at the cusp of a size range, can cause the belay loop to be off-center. If you ARE at a cusp, I strongly recommend you consider the Momentum 4S, with two waist buckles, assuring your ability to center the belay loop. Either one represents excellent value and will provide you with comfort and performance, indoors and out.
After having a pervious BD Momentum harness for 14 years I knew I was looking for something similar. From trying on lots of other brands and models I knew I was going to get this one.It was both lightweight and comfortable which is a tricky balance to find. Where as the competitor of this being the Petzl Adjama, was lacking slightly on the comfort side. The Adjama was lightweight but when you sat in it, the narrow leg loops i found tend to dig in, on the inside of my thigh. This harness felt great! I could sit in it, rest, stand, belay climb and take falls on lead all whilst being comfortable. I haven't used it outside yet but I'm sure it'll live up to my old harness. The new leg loop buckles were a little odd to figure out but after 2 sessions in it, it was ...Ā MoreAfter having a pervious BD Momentum harness for 14 years I knew I was looking for something similar. From trying on lots of other brands and models I knew I was going to get this one.It was both lightweight and comfortable which is a tricky balance to find. The main waist buckle was a standard speed buckle so no issues there. All round a great harness and very happy purchase. Would recommend to anyone.
I got back into climbing for the first time in about 5 years last summer and climbed at Least 2 weekends a month into the fall. I was looking to start getting gear and came across this harness. The harness fits well it can be worn all day for multiple days comfortably never had any discomfort. It is durable for a beginner harness and it can take a fall which is the most important part. I highly recommend this harness. I havenāt used this ATC because I have a Wildcountry revo but I have lent it out and it functioned well. My harness actually didnāt arrive with the ATC but I contacted black diamond and they sent me one at no cost great customer service. The chalk bag is great and I like the color. After shoes, everything you need for gym climbing is here, and especially if this is on sale, it's worth every penny. No more rentals! Throw in a helmet, rope, and quickdraws and you can even do trad on this kit.The harness fit is adjustable, so as you build the muscle needed to climb well, you won't be stuck with a harness that doesn't fit anymore. This is probably the most import investment a beginning climber can make. You'll grow and shape quite a bit as you dive into this sport, and a harness that grows with you is ideal. The belay device is a classic for a reason, and, like any good piece beginner equipment, teaches you what you're doing wrong as you use it. The carabiner is almost too beefy, but that also helps get over the newbie uncertainty with rope ...Ā MoreAfter shoes, everything you need for gym climbing is here, and especially if this is on sale, it's worth every penny. The carabiner is almost too beefy, but that also helps get over the newbie uncertainty with rope manipulation. The chalk is a chalk ball and that's ideal for a beginner because you don't actually know how much you need when you're starting out, so it's easier to regulate how much you apply vs loose chalk. The bag is a basic bag, it keeps the chalk inside. This kit's got everything you need to get from a beginner to an advanced stage of climbing, and since climbing is dangerous with bad or inappropriate equipment, this is where you want to start.
I bought my first Momentum harness 20 years ago, as a teenager just starting out. While even though itās a ābeginnerā harness, thereās nothing about it that says low quality. The thing served me well even after I was no longer a beginner. I used it heavily for sport climbing, canyoneering, ice, you name it. I sent it through the wringer and only retired it because youāre supposed to retire these things after 7 years just to be safe. I then upgraded to a more expensive model but now that I have kids, guess what the first harness I went to for them? The Momentum! Even though itās a beginner harness, it works amazing and will serve the wearer well even after āmoving upā in skill level.
Pretty much everything you need to get started at the gym besides a pair of shoes. The harness fits well and is comfortable, and has held up pretty well from a year-ish of moderate use. The chalk bag is a chalk bag, it holds chalk. I do have a soft spot for the black diamond chalk so that was nice to have. And of course the ATC is a staple belay device, the color I received matched the rest of my gear as well so that was a bonus. If you want to get into climbing, save some money and get the bundle. There's pretty much no downside here.
Based on the sizing specs, I tried this in a Medium, but I could not fully tighten up the waist and legs (kinda loose; not 'safe' snug). So I returned and picked up a Small. Strangely, on the Small I must open the waist strap as wide as it goes and even then I can just barely barely barely get it on over my (not particularly large) hips/butt with some aggressive wiggling and writhing, after which the remaining tag end of the waist strap is so snugged up to the buckle it's difficult to get enough finger purchase to back-strap for a proper fit. Can I make it work? Yeah, with some effort. But I'd like to burn my calories while climbing not while harnessing up. Other than this issue, which I admit might be unique to me at 165 pounds, 5'10", 32 inch pants size, generally trim and fit but--being in my 60s--not sporting rock hard abs, this would be a fine harness for the gym climbing I want it for. My recommendation would be to buy in person if possible or be prepared for some return-and-exchange shenanigans (which, thankfully, REI does make incredibly easy).
