Don't get me wrong, this is a really great shoe. If you're just beginning climbing this might be the shoe for you. I only rate this 3 stars because I had issues with sanitation of the shoes. After each use I would spray them with Lysol disinfectant spray. But over time the shoes became VERY smelly and started to grow a type of fungus/gunk I'd rather not know about. I've since read that certain climbing shoes are made of materials that are more prone to this behavior. I would guess whatever material this shoe is made of is more prone to it. Otherwise it is a great shoe, especially for beginner climbers. The price point is right and the rubber is great. If you plan on upgrading shoes in the next several months, I would feel confident buying these shoes.

A lot of climbing shoes in my local stores were sold out so I decided to chance it online. I read the reviews and got one size larger than my street shoe. I’m glad I did because these fit perfectly. Super snug but not painful, extremely comfortable that you forget you’re wearing climbing shoes at all and miles ahead of the rentals I was using. They shipped extremely quickly, were packed well and overall just a great experience. I was worried about buying online because everyone says not to, but these worked out fantastically.

I bought these shoes 6 months ago when I started indoor bouldering. The cheap price and the cool colors really caught my eyes. This is in my opinion on of the best begginner’s shoe. Not only will it get you started, but it will follow you during your progression. For example, my shoes follow me on V6’s. The only down side is that the top of the foot is not enough covered by the sole. A gap is already forming on top of my big toe because of toe hooks. As with any climbing shoes leave them to dry or they will smell really bad. After using these shoes two times per week for 6 months, I have enough experience with these to tell you that if you are a beginner, stop nsearching.

Great shoes for bouldering/ quick turn climbing
4 August 2023

These turned out to be a great shoe for my use case. I mostly go bouldering in these and am constantly undoing and putting back on the shoes for quick runs. This is the perfect situation for these. They only show signs of mild wear and tear, (scuffs and scratches) after about 20 bouldering sessions and 4 or so top lead rock faced climbs. These shoes were a little on the small side for my typical size but that can be the case with many brands of climbing shoe.

My go to shoe

If you’re a beginner or experienced looking for a gym burner (when you don’t want to destroy your TC pros), this is the shoe. The quick and dirty: in my experience, order a 1.5-2 sizes up from your street shoes for comfortable fit (able to wear socks with them on cold crag days). For reference - in brooks running shoes, I’ll wear 11.5, and I buy these in 13.Details:These are not aggressive and considered a “softer” shoe, that being said, they are comfy and do their job. Once worn down a bit after breaking in, you can really feel the small foot holds/chips on higher graded routes in gyms (think 5.11 and up).As for outside, you won’t have a problem wearing them for extended period of time (multi pitch belay and climb, for example), and in theory you could keep ... MoreIf you’re a beginner or experienced looking for a gym burner (when you don’t want to destroy your TC pros), this is the shoe. I believe this shoe is meant to have a wider toe box so it would be better for those with wider feet. Also, I like the white and black version of this shoe - the previous model looked pretty nice too (grey and blue), but I can’t find them anymore.I hope this review helps at least someone out there who is looking for a pair of climbing shoes, thanks for reading.

My go-to climbing shoe
2 June 2023

BD Momentum is my default climbing shoe for the gym and long days of climbing. There are few factors I like:1) fit. I have rather wide "high volume" feet and those shoes fit me well. I wear 44 / 10.5W street shoes and BD momentum 11.5 are a very tight fit2) price. I wear-out the shoes in 3-4 months of gym/outdoor climbing. Those are cheap enough to not bother with resolingFor harder projects I might pool out some high performance shoes, or for cracks I might use shoes with more rubber on the top, but for 99% of climbing those are fine

Not bad, ok for beginners
23 May 2023

These shoes stink! I don't know if it's the hemp footbeds or knit (presumably synthetic) uppers. These are my 5th pair of climbing shoes (my first Black Diamond ones) and I've never had such a problem with shoe odor. Overpowering when taking them out. Still very stinking after letting them air out overnight on the patio. Boot Bananas help somewhat. Definitely don't just leave them in your crag bag until the next use. That being said, they are comfortable, durable, and perform well. Great beginner shoe. Runs a bit small - even for climbing shoes.

Perfect Climbing Shoe for Beginners(& Deep Water Soloing!!!)

*** Note: My shoe is the previous years model/color, but essentially the same shoe***This was my first climbing shoe and was great. However, as I began climbing hard and more frequently, I busted through the toe rubber in about 3-4 months. After this, I upgraded to Scarpa Vapor’s which was a great upgrade and a shoe I still use today for gym climbing. Now you’re probably thinking, why am I giving these a 9/10 recommendation and 5/5 stars? Well, I remembered how comfortable they were walking around the gym for long periods while still holding up well on moderate to hard routes. So, when I saw some barely used ones for sale at an REI garage sale, I decided to scoop them up again. Now, they are great shoes that I let new climbers wear when they come out with me AND I have found them to be PERFECT deep water solo shoes. It’s obvious these are perfect shoes for beginners, but they have been absolutely perfect for DWS. They are super comfortable to wear while chilling/paddling on the kayak, the flexible material makes them super easy to put on in the water, and I feel that the rubber hold just as sticky when wet. Having to trust wet hands and shoes can be hard, but I’ve found that I haven’t had to compromise at all with these! In conclusion, I would definitly recommend these shoes to a beginner or someone who has a lot of recreational DWS around!

The Black Diamond Momentum climbing
23 March 2023

The Black Diamond Momentum climbing shoes are a great option for those who are just starting out with climbing. These shoes are comfortable and provide good support for beginners, and the fit is relatively true to size. They are a little hard, which decreases sensitivity, but they are quite comfortable overall. One thing I would have liked to see in these shoes is a little more rubber on the instep and heel. This would make it easier to do more technical steps and would make them more versatile overall. However, they are still suitable for those who are falling in love with the sport and want to spend long days in the gym without doing routes that require too much technicality. In comparison to other climbing shoes in the same price range, the Black Diamond Momentum ... MoreThe Black Diamond Momentum climbing shoes are a great option for those who are just starting out with climbing. However, there are probably better options on the market for those who are looking for something with more technical features. Overall, I would recommend these shoes for beginners or those who are just starting out in the sport, but more advanced climbers may want to look elsewhere.

These are great for beginners!
30 May 2023

I did a lot of research and knew climbing shoes needed to be tight. I read the reviews and bought my actual size instead of going down a size as recommended online. When they arrived they were very snug. I could just get them on my feet. I tried them on a few times before going to my first indoor climbing class. I am kind of a shoe addict, so I really feel I could not have gone smaller with these. They felt very secure for climbing. I was very happy to have these. I am so new to this, but I love bouldering so far! Having shoes rather than renting was a great decision for me.
