Black Diamond Solution Guide Harness - Women's - Coral XS

(16 reviews)

The Solution Guide Harness Women's is built for trad climbing and has a women's specific rise fit making it more comfortable. It is made from an extremely durable construction of Super Fabric - which is an abrasion resistant fabric that is infused with very small guard plates, this means the Solution Guide Women's can handle the day to day beating that trad climbing and multi-pitch climbing can have on you and your gear. Along with this durability, the Solution Guide Harness Women's is extremely comfortable so you won't even notice that you have been wearing it all day. The reason it is so comfortable is because of its contoured fit and Black Diamond's Fusion Comfort Technology, this is three separate strands of low-profile webbing in the fixed leg loops and the waist which creates load distribution and in turn reducing pressure on sensitive areas. The Solution Guide Women's has four pressure moulded gear loops and a fifth one on the back, so you don't have to worry about not having enough space to fit your gear on for those extra long pitches.

Belay is my way

I’m not a climber at all but recently my 13 yr old son picked up the sport and is loving it and when we go to competitions he didn’t have anyone to belay for him so I ordered this harness and it works great once I get it fitted correctly to me. Probably the only complaint I would have is that the front strap where I tighten it like a belt to my liking is pretty stiff right now and is going to take some work but that’s more on me than anyone. It just means I need to belay more. 😁. One last comment, Back Country and Black Diamond gear is awesome for the situation I’m in, if I needed more bells and whistles, they offer that but they also offer the value equipment at a lower price point (harness in this case) which is perfect for me. šŸ‘

Gear loops are way smaller than the Men's Solution Guide!

I bought this harness on recommendation from my partner, who is also a climbing guide. He found the material to be way more durable with heavy use, so I was excited to try it after my current harness got shredded pretty quickly in Joshua Tree. I was frustrated to find after opening it that the gear loops on the Women's Solution Guide harness that I ordered are significantly smaller than his Men's version. There is no reason that a female guide or trad climber would need to carry less gear than a male guide / climber. There is nowhere near the space I'd need for long routes with a double rack, slings, and all the other tools I need while guiding / climbing. Super disappointed and will be returning this harness.

Good Entry Level.

During hikes and backpacking trips we always end up climbing something, bouldering and rappelling something. I typically take my mountaineering harness (Petzl Altitude). It is so compact and light. It fits everywhere. But I wanted something still on the light side but more on the comfortable side. Don't get me wrong, the petzl altitude is awesome for mountaineering. But when you are climbing or anything in the middle of summer and have to hang with it for a while, it gets uncomfortable. So I ended up getting this one. It is a little more bulky than I wanted it to be but works. It is comfortable. It is a good beginner, entry level or climbing on a budget. I will recommend it more as an indoor, GYM sport climbing type of harness. The gear loops are asymmetric and sometimes it feels awkward on lead trad climbs. Due to that asymmetry it does not get a 5 stars from me. But I will definitely recommend it as an entry level.

Good Value For The Price
6 February 2023

It's pretty commonly accepted that the BD Momentum ought to be your first harness; either it or the Petzl Corax. I used both and found this one a little more comfortable in the legs when hanging, FWIW. The ONLY reason I dinged it one star is because of the single waist buckle; which, if you are at the cusp of a size range, can cause the belay loop to be off-center. If you ARE at a cusp, I strongly recommend you consider the Momentum 4S, with two waist buckles, assuring your ability to center the belay loop. Either one represents excellent value and will provide you with comfort and performance, indoors and out.

Great deal on previous model
22 July 2024

BD understandably didn't have all sizes and colors left over from last year, but I found two harnesses that fit family members for a great price. Highest quality, quick shipping, and great fit for long periods of climbing. Momentum is quite comfortable for climbing with long periods of use. Doesn't chafe or grab uncomfortably like cheap webbing harnesses. Would buy again.

Not Perfect for Women Guides
3 April 2021

I bought this harness based upon the BD description as a women's' guide harness, the implication being that it was comfortable, durable and really thought out for a female wearing it many days per week and hours per day. Turns out that's not really the case.THE defining feature of a women's harness is the ability to easily drop the leg loops to pee. This harness is far from perfect in that regard. Decades ago, the XX Harness did a great job with that. This current harness is unfortunately a far cry from that revolutionary harness. As others mentioned in their reviews, the gear loops are very small on this harness. Not just a beginner harness
6 December 2022

I bought my first Momentum harness 20 years ago, as a teenager just starting out. While even though it’s a ā€œbeginnerā€ harness, there’s nothing about it that says low quality. The thing served me well even after I was no longer a beginner. I used it heavily for sport climbing, canyoneering, ice, you name it. I sent it through the wringer and only retired it because you’re supposed to retire these things after 7 years just to be safe. I then upgraded to a more expensive model but now that I have kids, guess what the first harness I went to for them? The Momentum! Even though it’s a beginner harness, it works amazing and will serve the wearer well even after ā€œmoving upā€ in skill level.

Runs small/runs large? Yes to both!
19 January 2023

Based on the sizing specs, I tried this in a Medium, but I could not fully tighten up the waist and legs (kinda loose; not 'safe' snug). So I returned and picked up a Small. Strangely, on the Small I must open the waist strap as wide as it goes and even then I can just barely barely barely get it on over my (not particularly large) hips/butt with some aggressive wiggling and writhing, after which the remaining tag end of the waist strap is so snugged up to the buckle it's difficult to get enough finger purchase to back-strap for a proper fit. Can I make it work? Yeah, with some effort. But I'd like to burn my calories while climbing not while harnessing up. I plan to now return the small, go into a store and try other brands for a more reasonable fit and hopefully somewhat easier on-off mechanics. Other than this issue, which I admit might be unique to me at 165 pounds, 5'10", 32 inch pants size, generally trim and fit but--being in my 60s--not sporting rock hard abs, this would be a fine harness for the gym climbing I want it for. My recommendation would be to buy in person if possible or be prepared for some return-and-exchange shenanigans (which, thankfully, REI does make incredibly easy).

Standard Harness
22 January 2024

Comments to get to 5 stars:1. An option for this harness with added gear loops would be nice.2. The top tie in loop is not soft like previous models, I'm not a fan of this.3. Tie in loops are small, hard to tie in with multiple personal anchors.4. Waist buckle strap could be longer.5. Waist buckle could be easier to loosen (petzel has a good one). this may get better over time as the strap wears in.6. Vertical butt loop (for chalk bag?) does not hang down which makes it not very useful.*7. Some of the webbing, specifically the belay loop, has threads that are already separating and will very likely break as they are prominent. This doesn't give off the best quality/safety vibes.

Won't last long
16 March 2024

The harness is comfortable and the price is right, but relatively short lived. I got this for gym climbing and now, about 6 months from purchase, the adjustable part of the waist belt has started to fray. Could try a warranty claim but pretty sure they will call that normal wear and tear. Plus it's a $60 harness. Probably have to spend a little more money if you want something to last a whole year.
