I've been using this microphone for over a year now and love it. The quality is unmatched to any other microphone setup. This edition to my setup elevated my zoom presence help me start my podcast up. For a USB microphone, it's going to be the best one on the market I think. I wish the stock set up came with a boom arm setup and a pop filter, but I bought a boom arm and pop filter set on Amazon for pretty cheap. If you set the stand on a desk, the microphone is very pick up all the vibrations from your hand and your keyboard hitting your desk. So a boom arm that isn't attached to the desk That's what I would recommend. I attached a photo of how I did it. Definitely watch videos about how to talk into it properly. I really only use one mode which ignores everything behind the microphone. I do have a really loud mechanical keyboard that people can hear on the microphone if I do not mute it. So it does pick that stuff up unless you have software that dampens background sound or keyboard clicks. Overall, this microphone is awesome. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to up their microphone game and not want to get into XLR microphones. Definitely a great USB microphone. Oh, and I have used this microphone on Windows, Mac, and Linux. I hope this was helpful to anyone looking at this microphone

When I was offered the opportunity to test, and review, the new Yeti X Professional USB Microphone from Blue, I jumped at the chance, and for a few reasons. First, I have been considering getting a mic for my computer for several months now, and Blue was the primary (ok, “only”) brand on my list. Second, knowing that Logitech now owns Blue, there are bound to be people praising, and condemning, this acquisition, as well as those who believe Blue’s quality would go down because of it. So, wanting to have first-hand experience, and be able to report the “results”, this opportunity was, as Spock would put it, “logical”. UNBOXING AND INITIAL IMPRESSIONS: Packaging is fairly high-end, with a box-within-a-box design…the outer box is your typical thin, but sturdy, box, ... The info is minimal, but is also presented in 6 languages. The inner box, however, is constructed of plain black corrugated cardboard…QUITE sturdy…and, it needs to be, considering the weight of the mic...this thing is HEAVY. Open the box, and you’re presented with a quick-start guide. Unfortunately, this isn’t your typical quick-start guide, which would have walked you through the steps of getting the mic set up & operational. Instead, it’s a quick guide walking you through the operation of the mic, itself…and it’s NOT very clear. While the images and named function are large enough, there are NO words to inform you as to what you’re actually doing. So, where is the actual manual. In-short…and this is VERY disappointing…there isn’t one. You can go to Blue’s website, and download the real quick-start guide, but it’s not really that informative - page 2 provides the “installation” info, page 3 provides some very brief info on software control options, pages 4-5 cover the buttons & meter info, pages 6-7 cover the “smart knob” & LED metering info, and page 8 covers “pickup patterns”. The remaining pages provide no operational info. SETUP: Setup was both simple, and difficult. Starting with the ‘difficult’, this is because there was no manual, nor quick-start guide included. Not even the aforementioned included sheet contained any info. It was only on a whim that I Googled ‘blue yeti x’, found my way to the product page, clucked “downloads”, and found the (so-called) “manual”…which, again, is actually nothing more than a ‘quick-start guide’. If you don’t already have it installed on your computer, you will also need to download/install the Logitech G-Hub software. After installing G-Hub, you’ll need to restart your computer, then plug the mic in…and wait…and, once the mic’s drivers (which are stored on a chip inside the mic) have been installed, you’ll need to restart your computer again. Think you’re done? Not quite. Once the computer reboots (and you’ve logged in, if your computer requires a password), you’ll need to go to your audio settings, and set the Yeti X as the ‘Default’ recording device. Only then is everything set up, and ready to go…well, once again, not quite. Next, you’ll need to start up the G-Hub software, wait for it to recognize the Yeti X mic (future occurrences of opening G Hub, it will instantly recognize the mic, as long as it’s already plugged into a USB port), and then go through the process of properly setting your gain, EQ, and (if you choose) “Advanced Controls”. Alternately, instead of playing around with the EQ & Advanced Controls, you can play around with the “Blue Voice” presets (of which there are 11). You can also download more presets, through the “BROWSE MORE PRESETS” option. NOW, you’re finally set. G-Hub: This is where all of the mic’s “magic” comes from. It’s also what Logitech uses for accessing all information & settings pertaining to Logitech G-series products, and products from other Logitech-owned brands. If you already have a G-series keyboard and/or mouse, then you’re already familiar with G-Hub, and how it functions. Not only does G-Hub update itself whenever a new version is available, but it also monitors the “attached” device’s firmware, and will inform you when new firmware is available. Having owned Corsair gaming products, and having had to deal with Corsair’s iCue software, G-Hub is much more user-friendly. While iCue is more powerful, G-hub is MUCH easier to use. CLOSING THOUGHTS: To be completely honest, I haven’t yet had time to test out all of the Yeti X’s functionality (that could take several weeks, if not longer, especially with my job), but, from what I’ve experienced so far, this thing is absolutely fantastic. several years ago, I was a DJ for an online radio station, ands, instead of using an actual mic, I used the built-in mic on my gaming headset. While it performed great for what I was using it for, in real-world usage, I would have barely considered it “adequate”. On a scale of 1-10, I would have given that Logitech headset’s mic a 3..maybe 4. The Yeti X, for now, deserves at least a 9 (the only reason I can’t (yet) give it a ‘10’ is that I have not spent enough time using it to make that decision. THE GOOD: • Simple to set up • Use of G-Hub software makes fine-tuning the Yeti X extremely easy • Outstanding sound quality THE BAD: • It takes 2-3 restarts of the computer to get the mic completely operational • Price - $170 is a lot to pay…although, considering the quality (build & sound), I’d say it’s worth it THE UGLY: • NO included manual, or even so much as a quick-start guide FINAL VERDICT: If I had seen a computer mic selling for $170 several years, I would have said, “Are you crazy?” knowing the quality of Blue microphones, while I still think the Yeti X is a bit on the pricy side, I’d still be willing to purchase it. For what it is, what it does, hoe well it’s built, and how good it sounds, if you’re in the market for a high-quality…VERY high-quality…USB microphone, I don’t think you’ll find anything better than the Yeti X. The Yeti USB Mics have been dominating the professional gaming and video streaming sector for years and each model has been able to incorporate additional technology in the form of sound condensers that allow the voice being recorded during the streaming with an amazing quality level that, once you tested, there is not way back to the less elaborate models. The patterns can be selected by a single click in the button behind the mic and are great when, for example you want to integrate a second voice during your recording by switching from the cardioid mode to the bidirectional mode. Basically all is about power and possibilities because, Yeti empowers you in the mode of how you are going to deliver your own voice to the listener. Because it comes equipped with a 3.5-millimeter headphone jack, you can listen what you're recording in real-time without latency delays and the control available on the front of the microphone with the led metering, allows you to also visualize your sound. Same control serves also to mute your voice. Finally, when you think that the simple options are over, you just need to download the two apps Logitech G HUB and Blue Sherpa to play and introduce more vocal effects and sounds: overwhelming!. The apps serve also to upgrade the firmware. In this area, I suffered my only disappointment and roadblock, I couldn’t make the Blue Sherpa app work on its own without installing the Logitech app first. Perhaps is somewhere in the manual or instructions but I didn’t see that and it took me a couple of hours of testing to figure it out. I feel like in a professional studio at a very affordable price.

Finally, when you think that the simple options are over, you just need to download the two apps Logitech G HUB and Blue Sherpa to play and introduce more vocal effects and sounds: overwhelming!. The apps serve also to upgrade the firmware. In this area, I suffered my only disappointment and roadblock, I couldn’t make the Blue Sherpa app work on its own without installing the Logitech app first. Perhaps is somewhere in the manual or instructions but I didn’t see that and it took me a couple of hours of testing to figure it out. I feel like in a professional studio at a very affordable price.

Packaged well and easy to install, I first removed it from the box along with the USB plug and play cord, positioned it vertically and tightened the screws on either side, and selected it as my favorite recording mic in my recording software. I then plugged my headset into the mic. Next, I downloaded Logitech G HUB software from the LogitechG.com website and installed it onto my desktop computer. When installed, the G HUB software allows customization of the mic’s vocal effects, lighting, EQ and provides detailed advanced options. This software allows you to test the mic and to adjust the volume, gain and blend. After this initial setup the real fun began. Features of this microphone are numerous. In addition to the four capsule condenser arrays built into the microphone, the Yeti X provides four pickup patterns. Selecting the proper one for your recording is the initial step to laying the foundation for success. The four pickup patterns are: 1. Cardioid - a setting for one-person podcasts and game streaming, 2. Omnidirectional - a 360-degree pickup for recording live performances and group podcasts, 3. Bidirectional – a perfect selection for one on one interviews because it provides front and rear pickup on the mic, and 4. Stereo - a pickup pattern which projects a wide, realistic sound that is ideal for recording acoustic guitar, etc. Any one of these four pickup patterns can be set by toggling through four clicks, each designated by a small LED light, on the rear button of the mic. The front control, through rotation of an 11-dot volume meter, allows the ability to set the mic gain, headphone volume, and blend the mic and computer sound in your headphones. Pushing this button instead of rotating mutes the microphone. There are only these two physical control buttons on the microphone itself. All other adjustments can be done to fine tune through your streaming or recording software and through the G HUB software. I used the G HUB to test my voice and vocals through several presets and heard a distinct difference. Some presets made my voice seem dull and other made it fuller and more professional sounding. I liked the “Classic Radio” preset best as it added clarity to my voice and made it stronger. When set as the default microphone, Yeti X is marketed to work with any streaming or recording software. I tried it with three different ones that are installed on my computer and it worked well with all three. It doesn’t matter which software you use, because the Logitech G HUB allows for fine tuning of the audio settings so that you can create your own ultimate, signature sound. System requirements for the Blue Yeti X are as follows: PC – Windows 7,8.1, 10 MAC – macOS 10.10 or higher USB 1.1/2.0/3.0 Internet access for Logitech G HUB software is optional, but through G HUB the firmware can be updated periodically as needed. The firmware can also be updated over the USB using Blue Sherpa found at bluedesigns.com/Sherpa. The Blue Yeti X Pro USB microphone is impressive and fun to use. It's very easy to install because of its plug-and-play capability. The four capsule condenser arrays, the four pickup pattern settings, the G HUB presets, and the numerous built-in mixer capabilities make this an exceptional buy. Its affordable, professional, built to last and has a variety of unlimited customization possibilities. I would highly recommend you look at this product if you are in the market for or considering the purchase of a good microphone. I expect to use it in a variety of capacities for many years to come. Like the original Yeti, you can plug a set of monitor headphones into the bottom of the Yeti X, so you can listen to your mic input overlaid with your computer’s audio. You can change the volume and balance of the monitor headphones relative to computer audio using the dial on the front or in the G Hub software. The Yeti X made the dial on the front clickable to activate the mic mute and change modes, which is a bit cleaner than having separate buttons and dials, although making adjustments with the physical controls during a recording will inevitably introduce some noise in your recording. The microUSB cable is positioned in a way that makes pulling it out by accident a concern, but that it is removable allows you to customize its length and replace it if that component fails. I also found the placement of the pattern selector button on the back a bit inconvenient as sometimes when moving the mic, I would accidentally press it and have to cycle back through the settings. This was not a problem on the old mic which used a physical analog dial that had to be twisted. With the gain set to zero, I thought the pickup wasn’t very strong. I found myself needing to set the gain to at least 3 LEDs (gain level 24 in G Hub software) to match the volume that I get from the original Yeti without gain from the same distance. When you turn up the gain, you can set the mic farther away from the sound source, but it will also pickup more ambient noise. That said, the mic sounds best when your mouth is practically right up against it, so you’ll want to make sure you get a pop filter if you’ll be speaking or singing into the mic to soften plosives e.g. ‘p,’ ‘t,’ and ‘k’ sounds. However, this wouldn’t be the best option for folks who want to record themselves in video and also keep their face visible. One advantage that the Yeti X has is its compatibility with Blue Voice filters which let you adjust and apply live processing to your voice on-the-fly in G Hub. This gives you fine tune control over how your voice sounds from EQ adjustments, to noise reduction, and compression settings. If you’re not sure where to start you can always choose a voice profile pre-set and customize them from there. Once you’ve found settings you like you can save it as a custom profile. The only thing is that you won’t be able to hear your filtered voice through the monitor headphones in real-time. You’ll still just hear your own unfiltered voice, so the only way to hear the output of the Blue Voice filter would be to record a sample and play it back, which thankfully there’s a ‘mic test’ feature in the Blue Voice settings of G Hub that does just that. In G Hub you can also customize the colors of the LEDs on the front of the unit for the various mode adjustments: mute, gain, live level monitoring, headphone volume, and headphone balance. The only feature that I found slightly unnecessary was the live level monitoring because when using the mic, your mouth is generally right up against it, which means that you’re never actually looking at the mic when you’re recording, so practically speaking, the levels indicator isn’t very useful. If you already own the original Blue Yeti, you know it already sounds pretty good, so it’s a judgment call whether or not you’ll want to invest in the more expensive Yeti X, given its marginal improvement in audio quality -- especially if you don’t think you’ll be using the live filters. But if you’re just starting out or are looking to upgrade a basic setup as a podcaster, livestream gamer, or for doing voice-over work, you’d be getting a beautifully designed and professional sounding mic with plenty of customizable features at an affordable price.

I'm a litigation attorney and I conduct depositions and other court proceedings from my basement. Several of my depositions have been televised (subsequently). I'm self conscious of my voice, and the parameters of this microphone alleviate many of my concerns. I don't have the "do I really sound like that?" reflex when I hear my own voice, if for no other reason, the attributes of my sound can be adjusted. It's incredibly easy to test out different voice changing effects within the software to see which ones you may want to use with your content. You can record a clip of your voice and play it over using any of the voice effects without having to record another clip! I would love to rate this mic better than 2 stars but I cannot. Based on the build quality it is a 1 star to me. I have taken this mic apart and the components inside are super cheap and super glued down on parts like the usb socket and the earphone socket. It is obviously because they used such a cheap adapter for each that they likely would fail very quickly if they were not superglued. My usb socket became loose and would constantly cut out and windows would redetect it and my audio would go through a weird reset everytime. So I took the bottom off and attempted to fix this as I can solder pretty well. It is near impossible to work on this. Cheap cheap cheap build quality, don't be fooled by the heavy weight of the mic stand and the mic housing, inside is light and cheap. With that said, it is an ok mic for what it is intended for. It records in decent quality for the price and is somewhat simple to operate once you learn how. I like the audio mode selections as well as the power meter LED's on the front. I have just bought another blue yeti x which is arriving today and I am contemplating just sending it back because of the issues I have run into with it. If you just need a mic for recording youtube videos or streaming on twitch this mic will work fine, just be easy with the usb socket and cord.
