Boss Pocket GT Pocket Effects Processor

The BOSS Pocket GT is perfect for late-night/early-morning private jam sessions! The sound quality is impressive; however, not nearly as impressive as the myriad of effects and sims built into this smartphone-sized gadget. The degree to which one can customize the effects and amp simulations is mind-boggling. I wonder how they fit all that in there! :-) Now, the downsides - battery life isn't long enough for me. Lasts for four hours as advertised - should have been engineered to last six to eight. Also, either the BOSS Tone Studio app (Windows AND Android) or the MIDI implementation in the Pocket GT, or both, are absolutely abysmal. Ultimately, you're better off using the desktop app versus the mobile version - the MIDI over BT for mobile is unreliable. With the desktop app, MIDI over USB is utilized with SOME degree of stability. The Pocket GT is incredible in its' capabilities, but limited by its' battery life and lack of reliable editing tools.

An amazing little box for serious practice sessions

The product videos show a lot of great features and they all hold true and are easy to use. One of the stand out features that they gloss over is the fact that it is 100% compatible with the GT-1 patches. If you own a GT-1 floor unit, back all your patches up to the cloud and then pull them into your mobile device to write them to your Pocket GT. Have all your patches at your finger tips on this little practice box. Use the app as the front screen of the unit to turn on/off your delay, reverb, FX, .... settings. It's a true copy of the GT-1 in a tiny box. Except for the fact that the GT-1 floor unit is setup with control inputs (pedals switches and an expression pedal) for live situations, the Pocket GT could actually provide all but the expression pedal ... MoreThe product videos show a lot of great features and they all hold true and are easy to use. The 1/8" headphone out will drive a 1/4" amp input with the right cable. It's worth the money if you want an awesome practice signal processor, don't have a GT-1 yet and was thinking about it, have a GT-1 and want an awesome accessory to compliment it when you want to tuck away and practice some riffs under your headphones with your guitar and your sound patches, or don't have any of this and just want the best practice setup that can also provide an input drive to your favorite amp or pedal signal chain also.

Great sounds and great for practice. Few annoying things. - Android app looks pretty rudimentary. You cannot use it in horizontal mode. - no output socket and only mini stereo jack for headphones/line out. That is definitely design choice to avoid this device to be used in any type of proper performance. The 3.5mm phone jack looks pretty flimsy and I have a suspicion it will not last many plugin/out cycles.

I would buy this Product again

I was concerned about bluetooth conectivity with my Samsung S22 ULTRA as I read a lot of comments about how tricky it could be. It took me 30 seconds to set the phone and Boss pocket gt.The bad thing about this product is the youtube feature. Most of the youtube videos can't be played on the app. It means you can't use the most exciting feature of this little device. Anyway I still can open the youtube app on my s22 play the video and hear the music while boss pocket gt app is running on the background producing the effects and emulation for your guitar. What i have found most exciting is that you only need a phone, pocket gt and headphones to star your practice session.

I would buy this product again and again and again.

This product is outstanding! It does exactly what it says it does. Great sounds in a small compact package. This is the product I have been waiting for. I needed something portable with ease of use. But, the sound has to be there and boy does this little puppy sound great. To some of the other reviews on here that are saying it's missing features I'll try and answer. 1. There is an app for it. At least on IOS. I've been using the app since I got it when this product first launched. App works awesome. Simple search on the interwebs and YouTube showcases it. 2. The review saying you can't plug into amp is wrong in a way. The person playing in the review you mention was connected to their DAW on their computer and playing thru studio monitors. Hope that helps. This was not designed for live play. I don't think it ever was. It's a practice tool and the best portable one I've ever used. The only better practice tool out there is the Spark but it ain't portable. I've been playing for 10 years and have tried and used everything. I've finally have exactly what I have been looking for with the Boss Pocket GT and the Spark. For live play I would use a actual amp or some of the other amazing products designed to do that like the new Boss core, Helix stomp etc. etc. Try it out for awhile and put it thru it's paces. Guitar Center has a very good return policy but I don't think you'll return it. I'm not.

Perfect For My Use

I'm a professional guitar tech touring with a well known country artist. The band's lead guitarist introduced me to this device as he uses his on the bus constantly. At home in Nashville, I play with a 90's cover band and because I'm on the road so much, needed a portable practice solution and this thing totally does what I needed. I'm easily able to Bluetooth my iPhone X, put on headphones, plug in a guitar and and play along to tunes on Apple Music, YouTube or any audio being output from my phone. That said, I've read a bunch of reviews complaining about the transport buttons and one review that said it worked great with an iPad but not on the iPhone. First off, if you Bluetooth the unit to your iPad, to use it with the iPhone you MUST first tell the iPad to disconnect before it will work on your phone... even if the iPhone says it's connected. As for the transport controls, everything works perfectly with Apple Music. Not so much with YouTube. Full rewind or jumping to the next song works but rewind and fast forward (in my case) don't. Personally, that doesn't bother me because I can just do that on the phone or iPad screen. I also had no problems downloading the additional patches as shown on the Sweetwater video. Everything worked exactly as shown. As for the tones, I'm not really sure why anyone is complaining. It sounds great and if you really want to get into it, there are a ton of user accessible tweak options, especially using app. I have no desire to use this for live performance but as a killer device to learn and practice songs, I absolutely love this thing!

To much fun!

This works as advertised. Great way to watch and pause instructional videos on YouTube. The patches are pretty good. I like being able to play incognito and hear myself through headphones. Looking forward to using the computer interface so I can record my playing. This is a great tool for guitar. I'm enjoying it very much. At this point, the only thing that could improve the experience is being able to listen with ear buds. Unfortunately, you can only monitor through wired headphones. Maybe a future generation will make this improvement, but for now I'm loving this device!

Top of the line in headphone amps!

I have had this for only a short time but, it has given me all that I want and more. Boss is known for great products and the pocket gt is no exception! As far as headphone amps go there is the Fender unit which I'm sure is a good choice but, I didn't like that the navigation was done all on the unit itself an app gives way more control and, no fiddling with controls on the unit. I actually tried the NUX Mighty Plug and, I really liked it. The app was great to navigate all the parameters and was quite easy to use and get a great sound but, after 2 weeks I went to use it and, went bad, terrible static, squeeling, and, almost no sound at all. Tried 3 different guitars all the same result. Sent it back for a refund. A little more expensive but, well worth it. You can plug straight into it with a guitar and, simply use the controls on the unit itself for great sounds, 99 presets that can be used or tweaked to your taste. Tuner also. Bluetooth it and, here's where the good stuff happens. Opens everything up for a world of good stuff. The app lets you play along with YouTube videos, backing tracks, and has an aux input for anything that you would want to jam with. Nothing plugs into your guitar but your cable. The plug in units to your guitar are a pain to deal with and the headphone cable is always getting in the way. It would be nice if Bluetooth earbuds would work but, they can't, maybe down the road they may develop this feature. The Boss unit is far superior than all the rest in sounds, navigation, features and, ease of use. You get what you pay for period. Highly recommend this unit for any guitarist looking for an excellent way to get some good practice time and, enjoy some great sounds! If you really want have some fun just run a line from the headphone jack to an amp, bring up your favorite tunes or backing tracks and prepare to have your mind blown !!!!!!!! I've been playing over 50yrs and, I've never had this much fun!!!!! Let er Buck!!!!!!!!
