Boss RC-5 Loop Station Pedal

This is an awesome practice pedal. I bought this to help me with playing over chord progressions. It also has some great beats preloaded for long nights of practice. You can get lost in practicing with this great pedal. Kudos to BOSS and thank you to American Musical Supply for housing a great product!!

Exactly what I was looking for for home solo practice! The Boss RC-5 has replaced my Ditto looper - the drum track helps so much in terms of rhythm practice, and also ensures that the loops line up on the beat start/end - which was very hard to achieve on the ditto. This product is capable of much more and I am still learning the broader features

Big upgrade from the RC-1

I decided to buy a looper last year to use primarily for practice, and for easily capturing ideas and riffs. I settled on the Boss RC-1 and it performed great. The biggest limitation was only being able to capture one idea at a time. I started looking around for something with more memory locations and I found the RC-5 as an upgrade.I am blown away by the included drums and the device's ability to determine the tempo. As a tool for capturing multiple ideas and being able to back them up to a PC, this is perfect. I haven't tested the midi capability yet.I could easily see using this in an actual performance in the future. It's pedalboard-friendly size makes it very easy to carry around.

Bug needs fix

NOPEI use my RC5 to record my acoustic guitar track with its built-in drums, then play along with electric guitar and sing live for my solo act. There are a lot of drum choices and times signatures - but it occasionally drops the recorded drum track. It's annoying when performing live because it sounds shallow, and also seems to lower the original playback level of the acoustic guitar. This has happened several times, always duing a live performance, so I'm looking for a different brand looper. You apparently can't go back and add drums to my recorded acoustic track later because it doesn't match the time signature.

Great compact unit

Have not used it live yet. Still getting friendly with it.There are a lot of rhythm patterns to choose from but many of them are very similar. Some of the functions I would have thought would be accessible through MIDI are not, but there are ways to work around most of them. Overall it seems like a great unit for a moderate price. The sound quality is very good.One disappointment is that I had the impression you could download rhythm patterns to replace the ones you don't care to use - you can't download them as rhythms, only as backing tracks. Look for the reference manual (not the owners manual) and study it before you buy if you have specific expectations.

Great first looper

This has allowed me to focus on expanding a song I was working on and really get closer to finalizing the feel, due to the fact that I was able to work all parts of the song at once.Rhythm tracks are adequate and cover a few genres of music, and allows you to control volume, tempo, and more. You can also save a number of different song loops in it indefinitely, or work them on the spot.Honestly this thing is great and at a good price. I do wish I'd spent a bit more and gotten the RC500, simply because on the RC500 you can separately output the rhythm and guitar, and includes a mic input. I do think this a good pedal for any level of player.You will likely want to get one of the available footswitches for this as they can expand functions more easily and allow you to configure two more pedal switches to the function of your choice, such as loop selection, A/B rhythm changes, etc. I'm in the midst of ordering that right now.

Great looper pedal with lots of setting

I jam and solo over familiar chord progressions for fun. Having the drums and saving loops is a great upgrade from my Rc-1. However with all the built in technology it's been a little tricky to figure the thing out. I'm Still having fun with it.

Review of Boss RC-5 Loop Station Pedal

A boss product from Boss. This is the first loop pedal that I decidced to pick up but after having a few gos on my friends this blows it out the water. Custom drum loops, added effects and you can add more if you have a printer cable and a PC.

Simple looper does the job.

Simple looper does the job. Great package for price range. Wish it cam with a power pack standard though. Simple and great place to start for someone starting out or the expert.

one year recap

This is a year review, more a recap of the possibilities of the RC- 5 loop station I really didn't scratch the surface what the loop station can really do! The boss tone section I discovered 2 days age the even the loop stations have sound that can be added this is what happens when you become computer literate since 2010. The boss tones that you can add to the RC-5 is whatever style you like pop, rock, metal, jazz, Latin, fusion, electro: yet sadly no reggae or world music maybe boss will add it. I digress so playing to it these backing track it is like having a drummer or bass guitar with you which is excellent and enjoyable to play with!
