I bought this for home use - to try to make some sense of the nest of cables behind various TVs/AV equipment, and also to simply label a load of boxes in the garage. This model is aimed at electricians, so it has some nice features like 'cable wraps' (where the text is repeated around the label) and 'cable flags' (where the text is repeated, so the sticker can be folded around the cable leaving a 'flag' with the wording on both sides). This works well. Normal labels work OK. My only criticism is the amount of tape wasted - there are options to reduce the margin around the text, and also options to print multiple labels without 'cutting' between each one, which means you waste less as the machine needs to feed some blank label after each cut. Even with these options, there's still a lot of tape that simply gets cut off and thrown away - probably about 30mm each side of a 'print' - so if printing small, single labels I often throw away more than I use. That said, compatible ribbons are readily available which are significantly cheaper than the branded Brother ones, so I'll look at these when the included ribbon runs out.

This is a good unit with plenty of scope for different labels. Unfortunately I had the impression that the power supply was a charger for internal batteries and that is not so. Either use the unit tied to a short cable or buy 6 AA batteries.

Excellent bit of kit.

Once you read the manual or look online for user instructions, this machine can deliver most label requirements when you are familiar with its operation. There are a number of different width tape choices up to 12mm and many tape types and colours that are compatible. Uses batteries or mains adapter, making it flexible. Only downside is the initial feed of tape (about 25mm) if you are printing single labels. Comes in a great box too.

Faceplate Feature is down graded to single items.
21 January 2019

This machine is NOT for trades who label circuit breakers and patch panels. The Faceplate Feature does not provide an option to regulate an even spacing between multiple labels as available on the next model up, which needed to produce a single length label, to identify multiple circuit breakers. It is simply a tape saving feature for single labels for example a warning label. Though it comes with a power supply, there is no rechargeable battery. Check out Tube Videos for more information. It has other uses for which the machine appears to be suitable, and so may suit some customers who do not need to label progressive items equally spaced via a single label.

Great wee machine

Great for labelling wires, switches, toolboxes, etc. Once you have this you'll realise that most things could do with a label. Light weight, easy to use and good value. There are many cartage colours available to suit the needs of most compulsive labellers. Comes in a nice handy plastic box to protect it whilst getting knocked around in the van.

Replacement
24 January 2023

Seems to be a pretty good & robust little label printer. I purchased this to replace an existing faulty Brother printer that didn’t last very long. Compared to my original faulty printer, it seems to be better designed for site work together with the included case for protection etc. Added advantage with this version is the included power supply unit. Save on Batts, and flat batts on a cold morning. Many more options for printed labels specific for labelling cables Dis boards etc. So far seems pretty good value, time will tell.

These are initial impressions: All the literature in the box in so many languages was scant and unhelpful. I registered the product online with ease, but the Brother website was unable to connect me to the Download Manual link. I did find this very quickly via a straight Google search. In "Auto" and "Faceplate" I never got any message of character "Overspill" etc. Instead, the machine seems to reduce the character size to fit label length, this to a inappropriate size for labeling. So that Preview Button is very important. In every other aspect, I love this machine, especially the comprehensive range of characters and styles. I am also glad I bought the machine with supplied AC adaptor. The carry case could have been much better design for the packing of the cable and spare cassettes carried better.I like my purchase very much and hope it will give many years of good service.

Very handy & professional bit of kit.
21 July 2020

I was looking for a label maker for some time and then this appeared at a price too good to let go. I’m so happy with it, the labels are clear and easy to make. Different size labels are available and cheap if you go with a non-branded compatible version.Over the standard consumer label maker, this gives extra options like printing flags & other professional style options. Well worth the money & I’m happy with my purchase.4 marks provided for product spec as unfortunately there is only 1 font. It would have been nice to print something a little softer on the eye for home organisation.

Well worth the money
9 December 2022

For the price this labeller is great value. It does everything a handyman like me needs. The huge library of symbols and flexible text options allow me to create labels for every purpose. Professional electricians will need the more sophisticated labellers but this, being both battery- and mains-powered, does a great job, and with a huge range of laminated labels.
