My partner picked out this in store as he loves the deep woody smoky scents and I wasn’t sure at first, however the scent is a great room fragrance. It’s woody without being too artificial or overpowering - it’s certainly not a pine scented fragrance! Great for autumnal evenings and the black wax colour is a nice effect. Only downside is that we seemed to burn through it quicker than other candles…hard to tell if just because we liked it so much but didn’t seem to last as long as similarly sized candles from other brands

I absolutely LOVE this candle!!!! The smell is the perfect mix of masculine and feminine, light but also rich and woody. Its always a crowd pleaser and get compliments on it when we have friends over. It lasts ages if you used it properly and cut the wick after each longer use!

Chai is a really distinctive candle scent. It reminds me of incense that's authentic to temples in Asia but also is grounded in those warm woodsy scents that reminds me of hiking in California. It fascinating and I find that it surprises me every time I light it. I will say that smelling incense every day can be intense so sometimes I will burn this for maybe 10 minutes and then burn Diptyque's Baies and the room smells FANTASTIC. I

Love, love, love this candle. I am on my 5th jar of this candle. I feel that it should be called, "Byredo's version of a Christmas scent". It is a spicy, woody scent, with notes of ginger, cinnamon and cardamon, while the violet notes and tea leaves, make for a really interesting scent. I think this is Byredo's trademark to make unique and subtle scents - excluding Biblioteque and Safran which are stunning but much stronger. Scents that are mysterious, surprising and beautiful. When I want a stronger scent I will go to Diptyque and Cire Trudon which have been my favourites for many years, but then when I want something different and more subtle I always turn to Byredo. If you like Chai, you might also like Byredo's Symphonique candle.
I had this candle on my wish list for about a year but finally took the plunge when a promotion came on the site. I had a feeling I would love it (I’d never actually smelt it before) and it exceeded my expectations. I’m a big fan of anything amber but this is just amazing. Even when it’s not lit I can still smell it when I walk in the room. I would buy 10 of these if they weren’t so expensive!
I love a number of Byredo scents and so I was really keen to try this candle. The black wax and jar are stunning and it burns evenly and cleanly. The scent is very unusual - a smoky oriental. Initially, I thought the scent was barely noticeable but on the second burn, it really kicked in. Maybe even a little too smoky and strong for my liking. It is definitely an acquired taste. I will burn this again on a cold evening which is more suited to enjoy this fireside scent. I think it will grow on me.
The scent is very calming. The packaging is beautiful and decorates my living room. The candle is very efficient. After opening, a beautiful calming chai scent comes out. When burning, the smell spreads throughout the house. Perfect for autumn and winter day. Perfect before s bed time.
This candle isn’t bad but from the description I was expecting something a little ‘spicier’. This candle has a deep, warm, sweet scent. Almost like a sticky maple syrup smell. The bourbon vanilla is definitely forward and the black peppercorn, coriander, sesame, and sandalwood definitely take a back seat, but are not totally undetectable. I typically like musky/spicy/autumnal deep scents so I thought this would work for me. I’m not a fan of super stron smells so I found the throw to be adequate for my space (400sq ft). Also, I purchased this scent because the biblioteque was out of stock. I later purchased biblioteque and was much happier with that scent. I still light this candle from time to time but will not purchase it again.

The unique spicy sweet aroma is great for winter and very distinct. I'm not sure I'd expect this simplicity from this brand, but it is still quite enjoyable. Has a kind of wintertime vibe that I am appreciating in the office! I would not say oh I won't buy again but I will say I am curious to try others in the line, as it is not as 'perfume-y' as other lines such as dyptique.
