I bought this for camping in our van, since it can get warm in there at times. I had an old 12V clip-on fan, but it had only one speed, which was too strong and made too much noise. This fan has two speeds, and both are quiet. I ended up buying the optional clip-on mounting bracket, instead of using the included suction cup or permanent mount. I think this will work well on camping trips this summer, and is smaller and quieter than my old one.

I have bought Caframo fans many times over the years - for every boat we have ever owned. They are fabulous - a perfect personal fan, utterly quiet, with a tiny power draw. We put them everywhere, and generally leave them running day and night. Don't bother with other brands, thinking these are expensive - Caframos are superior to anything else available.

....they are great fans. For those that are afraid of the open blade, don't be. The blade is designed such that if you do hit it, it deflects and you simply stop the fan from turning. In fact, I frequently stop the blade with my hand to change speeds when the I've turned the fan in such an orientation that the switch is not easily accessible. The reason I chose these is because they move more air than any comparable fan I've tried and do so at a reasonable amp draw when one is at anchor. They are not the quietest fan, but anyone who truly understands airflow knows there is no such thing for a fan that actually moves adequate air.I really want to give these five stars, but there is one issue. I've used these fans for more years than I can remember. However, they tend to pick up a vibration. Since my wife keeps the fan blades clean, it is not a blade imbalance due to dust. I think the venting of the motor allows dust inside and causes vibration. This vibration is exacerbated in an area such as a quarterberth if the mounting is to a headliner rather than a solid bulkhead...it can sound like a drum at high speed. At that point, I replace the fan. I've not had to replace many, but it will happen. Given the amount of air they move compared to other fans, I accept this tradeoff. But I do wish the company would change the motor venting design so they would not vibrate quite so quickly.

I was a little afraid of using a fan without a guard, but the husband was insistent on giving it a go. It does put off a lot of breeze and easy to install. I accidentally got my fingers too close and was struck by the blade while turning it off and can verify it didn't hurt me. We used the fans on our sailboat and in our RV.
Living in a small camper, we need good air circulation, without the noise of cheap-o fans. (We sleep, watch TV within a few feet of this thing) This fan, as advertised, is very quiet, and moves alot of air without high electricity usage. In our experience, they last about a year and half to two years before starting to crap out, then we buy a new one. That being said, the sound coming even an old Caframo fan is about 25% of that coming from a typical $10-$15 compact fan. Definitely recommend.
Great fans for air circulation. Haven't had same experience as others. After 3-4 seasons of nearly continuous use, one failed due to brushes and one stopped working, blades will not turn. Replaced with same fan as we like them. Blades are easy to clean and love that they are finger safe.
Maybe I got a lemon but this fan is Loud! There is an annoying sound that sounds like electronic motor friction (that shouldn't be there) and the casing of the fan it self vibrate, so much so you can see it move quite a bit. I was looking forward to a quite fan but this one is not it. Other than that the product feels very sturdy.
This Caframo Ultimate 747 has really good airflow and uses less than 6 watts of power on the high setting! The downside is it's pretty loud, even on the low setting. Not dealbreaker loud, but not a nice, lull-me-to-sleep fan.
This little fan puts out a good amount of air, we have used it on the boat in both the DC outlet at the Helm, and by using a DC to AC converter which allows for regular outlet plugin. Even with the converter it works great, and our guests that need a bit more airflow on calm days have been happy or the below deck areas that don't have a DC plugin I can use the fan without issues. It really moves a decent amount of air for how small it is and although touching the blades when spinning gives you a "jolt" its more of a surprise than hurting at all.(which has been a fun joke on the boat, me telling people to be careful or it'll "bite" you..)
This fan is probably one of the best 12v fans as far as longevity. Over the past five years I have bought probably 30 fans for our boat. Most last 6 mos to a year. It is easy to clean because there is not cage. However, there is not cage so it does hurt a little if the blades hit you, but not bad. That is the pros. The cons are, they do not offer boxed clip mount version. You have to buy this version and then pay extra to get a clip on mount (to clip to sun visor or table..etc). The clip mount is a very popular version and would be easy to offer as an alternative choice. The fan is way too expensive for what it is. I paid $70 for the fan and $16 for a clip-on mount. I do not mind paying extra for a quality product and would happily pay to have a fan that lasts but ...Β MoreThis fan is probably one of the best 12v fans as far as longevity. I do not mind paying extra for a quality product and would happily pay to have a fan that lasts but $86 is too much. I just do not see $70 of materials and workmanship in this fan. It might be a good fan but not worth the hassle of the blades hitting me or the price.
