Decided after many years and family pressure from my Son mainly to start collecting vinyl again, went to Richer Sounds in Glasgow, was served by David who organised everything and honoured me with a VIP club discount also. Everything ordered arrived within a day and a half.Everything straightforward enough to setup and install. Frankly, CD audio quality on the vinyl from the Amp and speakers which are high quality items. Will be back to buy speaker stands as I still need them. Only additional cost to someone else walking in to buy the same, you need to buy the speaker cable as it doesnt come with them, but David pointed this out at the time, and i'd already bought them regardless. 10 out of 10 for price, customer service and delivery. Disappointed with the bass & treble!

I bought the Cambridge Audio AXA25 about a week ago to replace my ancient Acoustic Solutions Amplifier! (Yes, I'm that far behind the times!) however I was really disappointed that there was no bass or treble to speak of on this amplifier. The sales assistant at Richer Sounds did explain to me that amplifiers nowadays do not really have these functions anymore however I really am old school and like my music to sound bassy. I guess I really am showing my age but that's just what I like! However I do have to say that this amplifier definitely can belt out the volume but that's not quite what I'm after.

I was looking for a basic entry level turntable, amplifier and speaker solution. I discussed options instore at Brighton with Jay from the sales team who was excellent and the following week I picked up a great deal. This consisted of a Denon turntable, Cambridge amp and Wharfedale speakers. It was an easy set up and I'm amazed at the sound quality considering it was an entry level set up, the sound is excellent. I found all the instore staff to be helpful and very knowledgeable and I will use Richer Sounds Brighton for any other audio / TV product I require. Thanks

Great amp with 1 big flaw
28 June 2022

To answer the first question yes theres i enough power, how much i don't know, since cambridge audio only rates the power to 25 watt in 8 ohm. Some say let it get warm to get the most sound quality out of it (it doesn't get hot as in temps) , out of the box the sound is of high quality, a good balance between the highs and lows even when you turn up the volume the balance is good, i would describe it as clear and open without the highs getting to much at high levels like many cheap, entry level amps does, midrange has the fullness when listen to something like leonard cohen without being muffled, good dynamics, depth and soundstage, not being warm or up to working temps (could take a few hours) im not shure about micro detail, i think theres is what you would expectButton works smooth, very smooth volume knob, no resistance, tone controls are subtle ultimate boost/cut +/- 5.5dB @ 20Hz and 20kHz,low height of the amp makes it fit just about anywhere.

Great performance for a sensible price
10 February 2024

Bought a system a few weeks ago but just assembled it today in my caravan. Great second system for the money. I got a lot of advice from John in Glasgow. So, I put together a Cambridge Audio AXA25 amp and AXC25 cd player along with the Denon DP-29F turntable. Matched this with Dali Spektor 1 speakers.I found the speaker connections a bit footery due to not knowing how to prepare the ports properly for banana plugs. Phoned Glasgow store and got advice from Colin and also checked online videos. Turns out its really easy if you just pop out the little plastic stoppers on the end of the amp's speaker connection ports.

Great reentry to vinyl with this kit

Maybe me, but I thought it was on after the initial set-up, but it had gone into sleep mode (which is v. useful) but no visible indication. I didn’t twig, so changed the speaker leads over thinking this was why no sound. As I was reading the online manual I tried the button again and hey presto! I felt a bit stupid but didn’t care as I had sound. This is a design issue (green to red for sleep mode?) and if made aware it avoids self-doubt and costly therapy.

Not a high resolution amp but GREAT midband!
5 January 2023

I manage a hifi shop with huge amounts of inventory and integrated amps from $500 to $30k. I bought this amp to see what the lowest price a/b can do and I’m impressed! It clearly shaves off the leading edge of notes and lacks resolution BUT…. It’s really listenable and way more than those class D amps reviewed in Audio Science Review. That being said, this amp is no where near as resolves as the Yamaha AS801. Not close. Yet the Yamaha could get a little too excited and I find the SXA25 midband tone ( not resolution) and dynamics ti be more natural. I like this amp, I can get behind it as easily as much more expensive ones and find myself grooving along to music even if the soundstage and resolution are not fully fleshed out. It’s GREAT for $220!!! Wow! I’m keeping it.

This amp does what I need.
23 October 2023

I ordered this amp on Friday, and it arrived today (Monday).I had read a review which said the front panel was plastic, but this was not true. It is cold to touch metal, although the knobs are plastic. It is a replacement for my 40 year old Sony amp which randomly cuts out after playing a few CD tracks now.I just want to listen to my CDs.After connecting it up to my nice but equally old JVC CD player, and Goodmans plastic covered chipboard 3-way passive Q70 speakers, I turned it all on.With the tone and balance controls in the default positions, I tried a variety of CDs.I set the volume knob to my normal listening level, which pointed to about 'half-past-seven'. So the volume was hardly turned up at all.I'd say the sound was clearer than on my more expensive ... MoreI ordered this amp on Friday, and it arrived today (Monday).I had read a review which said the front panel was plastic, but this was not true. So the volume was hardly turned up at all.I'd say the sound was clearer than on my more expensive Sony amp. This amp will do just fine.I don't need a remote control. There is one slight niggle. The power button has a white LED in the middle, which remains lit whether the amp is turned on or off.It just serves to tell you that mains power is coming to the amp. You have to work out for yourself whether the amp is actually on or off.To extinguish the LED, I will have to reach between furniture to flick a switch on my extension lead.Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No 4 sounded amazing, and the early Marc Bolan sounded good too.I have got what I wanted. Before ordering online, I tried to visit the Bournemouth RicherSounds shop during the advertised opening times, only to find it had the metalshutter down, even though I could see TV screens turned on through a gap. I waited half an hour, but the shop did not open. I gave up, after having paid to park my car. I may have spent more money, if the shop had been open.

Very good value for money
8 April 2024

Bought this as part of a deal for £300 along with a Basic Denon turntable and small Wharfedale speakers. This was because I h had a lot of vinyl just stored away. However vinyl is back in fashion, and I have not had a system in over 49 years. I just wanted to see if it was satisfying to play vinyl again, or just a passing fad. Anyway it’s as good as I remember, and have bought loads of both new and second hand since. Something strangely satisfying watching vinyl spin on a turntable. Added retro Technics tuner , 5 cd player and a cassette deck. To buy separately I believe it’s over £200. Another bonus is exercise, I have to get up to change a vinyl record, none of this “Alexa, volume up””Alexa next track” etc
