As much as I would like to leave a positive review, on this occasion I am unable to do so. Only to discover to my dismay and massive disappointment that my bike that I had already waited for over 2 weeks for had been wrongly tagged and sent to a different customer, I couldn't believe it !I now faced yet another lengthy delay whilst tredz tried to recover my bike.So instead of waiting I decided to change the bike and order a different one, tredz compensated the error by letting me choose a slightly more expensive bike for the same price as my initial purchase.Frustratingly it was now a case of waiting again, tredz offered no fast track service as a form of compensation or a way of saying sorry. The delays caused me major problems with getting to work as i needed the bike asap for commuting,Not the way to treat potential returning customers in my opinion.Fast forward another week of waiting and I finally received my bike which will be fantastic when it's sorted out by a professional. A solid bike for road touring. It has all the braze ons for low rider front panniers, rear rack, etc. It had enough room to have a Kryptonite cable lock on the seat tube without a 3rd water bottle cage. If I do a rail trail, I'd put back the original tires. Road tires in 30mm width are more appropriate for road touring. There's road and sugar sand around here, nothing between. Hammonton, N.J. 6 foot, this is a large frame, rideable due to the sloping top tube. A bit short in the legs 31" inseam at 6 foot, but long in the trunk and arms. I was impressed by how softly and smoothly this one rides, and I've got the more durable aluminum version. This one is great for riding in a straight line which is what you need for a touring bike. The chainstays are long which provides good heel clearance for rear panniers, and like nobody seems to realize, straighter chainlines if crosschaining. No interferance problems with toes and front wheel due to that long front center on the large size! Cannondale is famous for proprietary components and quirky designs. They definitely stuck to widely available solid components on this one. No need to stockpile components since parts will be available 5 to 10 years from now. The gearing selection is well chosen in general, but with the 11-34 cassette and a heavy touring load, I'd be coasting before using that huge gear. I ordered a 12-36 which offers a lower ratio and a lower 2nd largest cog. The 36 is pushing it a bit on capacity, but this is known to work. This isn't a crit racer afterall! Assembly was near perfect. I checked all the bolt torques, took out the bottom bracket to check if the threads were greased as I've seen unprepped ones with out of square bottom bracket shells from the factory. ( Another brand) The preload on the front hub was a bit excessive. An easy fix, but most low end hubs have similar issues. The wheels are true and round, with even spoke tension. Still is true after 150 miles. Perhaps I'll build a 32 spoke rear wheel for it this winter. Until then I'll be carrying the Stein cassette tool , a correct spoke taped to the front rack, and a spoke key. In reality, with one broken spoke and that wheel/ frame clearance, it'd ride ok like that awhile. At least they chose to build the wheels cross 3 spoke pattern. Durability with what stresses disk brakes put on spokes, is a big priority. Cross 2 with radial spokes on the other side ,24 spokes would be a really dumb choice here. Again, this is no crit racer! If this one breaks down on tour, a good shop will have all you need. I'm very pleased to have been able to test ride 2 frame sizes before buying. Some shops have limited stock.

This is the first time I've ventured into gravel bikes and I must say what are you waiting for, it's great.I have always used mountain bikes for my excercise in the Forest where I live, don't get me wrong the Gravel Bike doesn't do the same as an MTB but it takes the rough with the smooth. My daily ride of 20mile in my lunch time break is quicker on the gravel bike.So far I've covered just over 100 miles on the Cannondale Topstone and every time I have a smile on my face, only drawback is my lunchtime break is reduced because this bike is smooth and responsive and comfortable and quick.Initial delivery of the bike I had a problem, but TREDZ dealt with the issue and resolved to my satisfaction.... Top marks TREDZ!Buying a gravel bike gives you the best of both worlds, gravel and tarmac taken with ease with some good improvement on my times compared with my MTB. Don't get me wrong they do different things, but if you want a bike that can handle gravel, tarmac and the odd bridleway the get the Cannondale Topstone.Gear shifts are satisfactory along with the brakes. Sizing spot on by TREDZ size guide and in line with the Cannondale website size guide. This is the third bike purchased from TREDZ, Great customer service and easy to communicate with 👍
I love the geometry of this frame, the handlebars are great. However, the brakes are known lemons that need replacing, cost of at least $250. The Sora derailleur set is hard to adjust, not fitted to the FSA crank, etc. Replacing the drivetrain is a huge expense, between that and the brakes you are already better off buying a topstone 1 or 2. I regret buying this.
Love the bike. Completed a fair few miles now since it was delivered and everything has been as smooth as i had hoped. The bike has obviously been built to a very high standard as all cables, brakes and gears have stayed tight and rigid. The bike didn't arrive with the tires advertised but that didn't concern me as the little touches out shone that specific mishap i.e. multi tool etc.
Opted for the Topstone 3 (S) given the decent price and my nostalgic affinity for Cannondales that dates back to the mid 1990. Plus, I wanted a bike that is better on the roads than my mtb.Bought the Topstone online through REI. Went with a Small given my below average height and inseam. Got dialed in pretty quickly and find the bike comfortable and compliant. From my non-expert perspective, the fit is as advertised, but ymmv.So far, it has handled the lighter trails as I expected and it's decently fast on paved roads. Given my weight (currently 230) I'm really pleased with how its handled. Given my weight (currently 230) I'm really pleased with how its handled. Same time, I'm currently putting together a second wheelset with proper road tires because my Topstone has become my primary bike for exercise and group road rides, and because I don't want to buy a third bike. Not to mention, I simply want to try out some decent carbon rims to go with the carbon fork.Feeling so-so about the Fizik Aliante Delta saddle, especially when the miles hit north of 15 on a ride. Haven't had any chaffing but my discomfort starts to increase a bit more than I'm accustomed to. I will probably try out a few different saddles in the near future but I'll give it some more time/miles first. The Shimano Sora gearing/FSA Tempo Adventure cranks have been smooth and problem free, and didn't get messed up even when I changed gears on an uphill under pressure. The Promax mechanical brakes are decent enough. They haven't failed and I haven't felt nervous about them at any point However their stopping power is noticeably inferior compared to the Shimano hydraulic brakes on my mtb. Then again, I don't plan on using my Topstone for chunkier, steeper downhill trails near me, at least not regularly, where such a difference would be magnified.Overall, it's a pretty bike to my eyes. I've long opted for more muted colors on my bikes. However the grey paint job seems much darker than depicted in the above picture. I was liking hard on that lighter gray and feel a little disappointed by the difference between what my eyes see in the picture and what I see now. It is what it is. Already over it. Bottom line is that for me, the Topstone is a capable bike on and off road. I'm stoked about it and any upgrades I might make beyond perhaps the saddle, are more about improvements specific to my needs, not about any true deficiencies or limitations of the bike.
I ride a MTB normally and have never seen the point of a gravel bike. However peer pressure got the best of me.Since getting the Topstone 3 weeks ago I haven’t ridden my MTB!!I’ve ridden it on the road, the fire roads of the South Downs and even some of the MTB trails. The bike is fast everywhere and to my surprise very compliant and capable. I’ve found this more comfortable than a hardtail MTB.The component spec is ok for the price point, I’ve had no issues with anything at all.I’m shocked at the beating the wheels have taken without a single dink and are straight and true. I’ve taken the bike over some rooty and rocky descents. The Riddler tyres provide so much grip the only time they struggled was in slimy mud.I went for the model with x2 gears, a mate has a ... I’ve taken the bike over some rooty and rocky descents. The Riddler tyres provide so much grip the only time they struggled was in slimy mud.I went for the model with x2 gears, a mate has a x1 set up and runs out down hills but also seems to struggle more on climbs. The only thing to watch is the sizing, three of us bought topstones and we all felt they were too long. I’m just over 6ft and felt stretched out on a large.I’ve replaced the stock stem for a 70mm stem with some flex/suspension and moved the saddle as far forward as possible and that has sorted my positioning on the bike. My mates had mediums and both put shorter stems on too.If you’re thinking about dipping your toe into the gravel bike world I’d highly recommend a topstone. This bike opens up different riding experience to that of my MTB and I’m pretty sure it will improve my technique for my MTB’ing.
I am coming from road cycling so I did not want to compromise too much on speed. I prefer the more solid feel of alloy over that slight hollow feel carbon offers. It’s a preference. The bike is fast on road, but there comes a point where you can’t push it. Or maybe it’s my fitness level. It really comes into its own over trails and gravel, once the wheels touch the uneven surface something just engages. In summary a good all rounder which opens up a wider range of riding options. And something needs to be said about the low brand profile which bucks the current trend of being a walking advert for other bike brands on the market.
Can’t believe my bike was shipped in a couple of days - picked it up today and and had my first ride - other reviews mention poor set up but I can’t fault whoever set mine up (L-B on mechanic’s note) - gears indexed - brakes worked fine (despite many negative soundings on mechanical discs) - the only gripe is that the front mech has a bit of chain rub in the higher gears - a wee fine tune should sort that out. The only component on the Topstone I will replace immediately is the saddle - always a personal choice. Obviously it’s day one so can’t give too much feedback on the bike yet. I got the turquoise colour - it’s a nice mid jade/minty hue - not the bright bathroom aqua in the Tredz pic.
