Great lens for daylight shooting. Hold that thing still, it's a long lens. There is no stabilization on this lens, so get your yoga on. It's light weight and great during the day. I paired it with a knock off E65III lens hood. Never bought a lens cap for it, just the hood. 300mm is so much closer than 200mm. Just a great image. I take this thing skitouring with a heavy winter pack, I don't want to bring a 'good' lens, because it will get wet and broken. A $100 lens is just the ticket.

I am getting some good results with it regarding wild life photography. Good value for money. The AF is working very well. I bought it with some algae on the front element, and I am going to clean it in the near future, however it is not effecting image quality in any way. It arrived in good time, and I am very happy with it.

I thought perhaps all consumer-level zooms would be like this, but in fact this lens is quite sharp by comparison. Of course, it does not have any image stabilization and isn't terribly fast so a tripod is a must unless it is very bright outside. Don't expect to get great action-stopping shots. You can however, get great closeups of relatively still subjects. Wide open the bokeh is very nice, but as you stop down it looks uglier. USM is just awesome! This thing focuses really fast. You can lock on to birds flying by in a split second (they might still come out blurry due to movement, but hey at least you had them in focus!). Considering the price this is to be expected, and you can always correct this problem in photoshop (though you will lose some clarity). If you can live without IS and don't mind fixing CA, this lens is a pretty good buy. I'm certainly a happy camper. If however you demand higher speed and higher quality, you'll need to buy something more expensive.

While it's true that this lens is not as good as my 70-300 USM II Nano, it's pretty darn close. The Nano unit is one superior lens. No flaws. This one however, cost next to nothing. Yes, it has lens creep. At this price who cares? I took the shots below in the first five minutes after unpacking the thing. No edits. No photoshop. No cropping. Right out of the camera. Distance shots are clear, clean and crisp. The close up of the coffee cup speaks for itself. Yes, I have had the 75-300 and the 55-250. They're both junk compared to this unit and this cost less. That's a no brainer guys. I'm surprised that it's this good. Pleasantly surprised. Great deal.

Not the best lens out there, but very reasonable. I've found it's very sharp at 100-200mm, but at 300mm it gets distictly soft and a little dreamy. If you like a kind of ethereal look, shoot at 300mm! For those of you blaming the user for the soft images at 300mm (which isn't unreasonable), I've tested with a tripod and remote release and get the same dreaminess. I've also found I get the best results at 250th of a sec--remember this is a long lens without IS, so you have to shoot really fast shutter speeds to stop your movement.
