The previous EF lens was excellent and was traded in with WEX Leeds to update to the new mount and this has been well worthwhile. Coupled to the R5 it is extremely well balanced and the macro results are just stunning. Manual focus is quick, accurate and easy. I'll find a use for the SA adjustment soon, maybe! Four RF lenses in the bag now with a couple more to add.

I've just bought this RF100mm L series macro lens to replace my original EF100mm macro without IS which I must say was hardly used.Hopefully this one will used more now, as this version has IS built in, together with my EOS R.Pictures so far have looked stunning; as you'd expect with an RF L series lens. I also liked the idea of the 1.4x magnification.I'm not so sure about the benefits of the SA ring yet?I feel it was still worth it for me as I have gained some extra features from the original EF version.I got a fair deal trading in my last EF items plus Canon's recent cashback offer making this expensive lens more affordable for me.

I rented this lens about 5 years ago, had it for 7 days and loved it. So I finally bought it and now that I have it and have used it even more I realized my memory seemed to like this lens a lot more then than now. The lens is sharp but using the switch to allow the camera to not run through the entire length of focus is a must. Also the IS seems much louder than my Mark I 24-105 which I use as a reference because I believe they are running the same IS motors and system from their time of release. Focusing can be difficult due to such a tight focusing zone, I am using this lens currently on a Canon 6D with 9 autofocus points, maybe your results with a 5D Mark III or better with more focus points would help. Overall I like the lens and will need to continue to shoot ... MoreI rented this lens about 5 years ago, had it for 7 days and loved it. This lens has opened up an entire new world of photography to me that I hadn't really paid attention too. The lens is very sharp and easy to use. It is fairly light and compact. I will have to get used to the depth of field with the macro lens. It blurs the background really nice. I just ordered an extension ring so I can get even closer with my shots. I'm looking forward to exploring the new world this lens has awakened me too. I would recommend this lens to anyone who wants to learn and explore the small worl of insects and plants around us. Oh, by the way it's a great portrait lens at 100mm.
Pros: I take photographs of small components from clocks and watches. The 1.4 magnification is useful especially when used with focus bracketing. The Canon Digital Professional package manages the assimilation of a number of images with ease. Images are easily achieved and sharp throughout the full range.Cons: The delay and the cost. I ordered in August and received delivery in October. Regular enquiries indicated the supply problem resulted from Canon failing to meet the number ordered but it was clear my order was steadily moving to the top of the queue. No reflection on the retailer. It is expensive, having previously used a Canon EF 100mm Macro lens, is the additional expense worth it? I am pleased so far but additional experience with the lens is required.
I have been agonizing about purchasing a Macro lens. Looking at add one and different lenses, reading reviews and fully in analysis paralysis. I finally decided to use money from some extra work to buy this lens and was so happy to have a kit so I wouldn't have to spend an additional unknown number of weeks trying to decide what filter to get.I am so glad I bought this lens. I don't get a chance to do as much photography as I'd like, but attended an event where I was able to use it right away as a portrait lens. I am beyond pleased with the pictures (even with the typical internal picking at every fault). Sharp, with some great bokeh, and smooth operation. I am still working on the macro part but what little I've been able to do is fun and when I've gotten it ... MoreI have been agonizing about purchasing a Macro lens. Gotta be one of Canon's all time great lenses! Super sharp wide to close; smooth operation; IS works great on wide hand held stuff. Focusing can be a bit touchy on really close macro subjects, and the DOF gets really thin the closer you get, closing it down helps a little. Super versatile, a really fun "walking around" lens and macro opens up a bunch of possibilities. Some people have knocked it for being plastic, and that criticism may be unduly harsh as it is a very high quality piece. I think the plastic allows it to be lighter and better handling. I've used it on a 5D4 and a 70D (on the smaller sensor cameras it makes it an effective 160mm or so, almost like adding a tele extender and you can get really close images because of that!) and a C100mk2. I would argue that this is probably one of the best macro lenses out there. Build quality is solid. Image quality and sharpness is amazing. Image stabilization is a huge plus, as I can shoot handheld photos that would otherwise require a tripod or a ring flash. Focus as expected is fast and accurate. It's also a great portrait lens.In short, I would highly recommend this lens to anyone. As for the bundled kit, the addition of the lens cleaning kit, filters, and focusing rail is nice and a good deal. I was a bit disappointed with the Corel software suite (in my opinion, Aftershot Pro 3 just doesn't compare to Lightroom), but the video editing software is nice especially if you don't want to upgrade to a more expensive adobe subscription and want a pretty decent ... MoreI would argue that this is probably one of the best macro lenses out there. Overall this lens is high quality as usual for any Canon L lenses. Yet performance of the lens is below my expectations. Even with good extra light it doesn't give impressive sharpness (actually you can easily get same image quality using other lenses 24-70 f2.8 or 70-200 f2.8). Was also disappointed that despite apertures of f8-f11 you are not getting enough sharpness of the full subject (even if it has small size). So I think if you already have 24-70 f2.8 and/or 70-200 f2.8 then this 100mm macro is not worth buying.
Pros: Absolutely stunning lens! Build quality is brilliant. Auto focus is super super fast. Manual focus works really well. Image contrast is good. Quality and sharpness is just next level. 1.4 magnification is super cool.I use this lens for product photography and it for just perfect for that. Highly recommended this lens!Cons: Once you go above f4 this lens has a bit of focus shift. Not really noticeable but there is a bit. Easy fix for that is just to use manual focus.
