Have had this put away for a month, opened it on Christmas Eve to leave under the tree ‘from Santa’. I was expecting something similar to the Tonka Steel Classics (which is sold out everywhere, and has been for months). Not even close. The description of the product is very misleading. Only the body and bucket are steel. All the moving parts are plastic. The arm and bucket don’t stay in an ‘up’ position so the bucket drags on the ground while the toy is being pushed along. My husband was able to use the handle to keep it up while moving it, but I’m not sure how a little boy will manage that. The tracks don’t move well either.I’m very disappointed in the quality. Especially given the price point. Would’ve returned but this is what my boy asked Santa for, and 11 pm ... MoreHave had this put away for a month, opened it on Christmas Eve to leave under the tree ‘from Santa’. For the record - I did check it out in the box, based on a couple of the other reviews and it seemed ok. Out of the box, the shoddy design and choice of materials is far more obvious.

My 3yo daughter is obsessed with all things construction, so we were hoping she’d love this. And, to be fair, she does enjoy it—but the components to keep the boom and scoop up aren’t strong enough, so they fall a lot, and the tracks don’t work on ours without constant readjustment. This toy is advertised as steel, but the majority of it is actually plastic (which is why I think it’s not strong enough to hold up the steel parts). I think it would be a great sandbox toy though!

This Cat Excavator is my son's favorite new toy! He loves playing out back in his sandbox (and my garden) with this machine. This excavator is actually much larger than I expected, it's a great scale for him to dig with. The body is made of steel, but the arm is plastic. It seems to dig fine, but it would have been nice if they had made the entire toy out of steel. I really like that there is a lever on the top to make it easy to move the scoop while digging. If you have boys who love to dig outside, this toy will be a home run!

My toddler just loves his Cat Steel Excavator! He’s been calling it the blippi Excavator and singing the song over and over again, it’s super cute. I personally love that this children’s toy is made of out durable REAL STEEL I’m betting it will last kid after kid and still look great. I’m really loving the quality materials put into a simple children’s toy. My son can easily hop on and shovel dirt piles countless times over and over again with his Cat steel excavator and somehow he never gets bored of playing with it. A toy that can get him using his imagination and playing outside versus glued to something electronic is a toy that’s worth buying and this Excavator by Cat is that ultimate toy for any child.
I got the "Cat Steel Excavator" for my grandson to play with when visiting with me. I must say I was impressed with the toy as it is made of steel, and looks just like an excavator. We had a birthday party and being the only boy there, I brought the "Cat Steel Excavator" out as a surprise for him. He has many construction toy trucks but none that would load them. He immediately took off to play with it. This was great because the adults could sit and visit without interruptions. Well that didn't last long as the girls wanted to play with the trucks also. Needless to say the girls were not happy when asked to leave him alone. After the children left, my granddaughter ended up in the dirt pile with her brother, they played well together but every chance she got she ... MoreI got the "Cat Steel Excavator" for my grandson to play with when visiting with me. After the children left, my granddaughter ended up in the dirt pile with her brother, they played well together but every chance she got she was in control of that "Cat Steel Excavator".So I will be needing another so they both can be foreman of the consturction going on in my back yard.
The size of this toy is great. However the first time my grandson used it in the dirt, the bucket at the end of the arm broke. I didn’t pay that much attention to the arm, as the rest of the equipment is metal, but the arm that moves everything is plastic. I was very disappointed and did a refund. I am thinking I should have gone with the name brand
I got the Cat Steel Excavator mainly for my younger grandson who is 4 but shockingly the older grandkids like it also, even my 6 year old granddaughter. Its really well made and its held up for last few days with them playing pretty rough with it. Its not completely steel but we haven't had any issues with it breaking or bending or anything like that. I do wish the arm piece holding the bucket was steel but its holding up fine. They love pushing it and around and digging out mud puddles with it. I love seeing the kids enjoy playing outside like we did when we were young.
I love the steel construction line that cat offers. Mom of boys here and if you relate then you know how terrible plastic toys can be especially when it comes to construction trucks when your boys wanna be rough stuff up like the big guys. I have quite a few of the steel trucks & even have one from when I was a kid. Still no rust! Dents and scratches are a different story lol. I was a tomboy through and through. My youngest son sits on these and rides them through the house. We love our excavator!
My 3.5 year old LOVES all things construction, so why not get him this cool excavator?! I was disappointed in the item from the moment he got it out to use....the track tires would hardly move over our wood floor. I had to stand up, bend over the toy to try and get it to move. They definitely look cool, but may they should stick with regular excavator tires or reengineer these - they don't work well at all! Also the interactive digger is not good for first learners...it took me a few times to get down how to dig up and then pull up the digger to move it and then dump it. My 3.5 year old definitely got frustrated, he still tries doing it and with fail he usually grabs the bucket and scoops.
My daughter loves cars, tractors, and definitely construction equipment! I was super excited to show my daughter this toy as she loves excavators! We actually took this toy to the beach and it was quite the hit with her and her cousins. It’s very neat that you can control the digger and actually scoop the sand yourself. My daughter brings this toy everywhere with her and she will play with it for hours! It is also extremely sturdy and I am pretty confident my destructive daughter will not be able to break this.
