Reading the reviews made me a bit skeptical, but it was on sale so we figured it was worth a shot. No one in the family has any experience with telescopes, but within minutes of setting it up (which was also extremely easy) we were looking at an amazing image of Sirius! I can't recommend this enough for someone who wants to start out star gazing. The diagonal could be a bit better, but for the cost, I'm still amazed at the quality!

Before I bought it, I read reviews on the product from different sites where sold the products. Those reviews were pretty good and that's why I decided to buy it. However, I tried it and see if I could telescope and see the moon or the planets in universe or stars... and I couldn't see anything. The manual that came with the product only showed how to assemble it but not how to use it. There were only TWO diff size lens but none of them made me see the sky. I tried to google to see if I could find instructions of how to use it. Well, none I could find. So I decided to return it since it became useless.

The telescope was easy to assemble, and is a terrific "toy" for my you child who just entered the sixth grade. He was extremely excited and could not wait to take his new "best friend" out for a "test spit." He's really discovering a fascination with science. He's not ABUSING his "phone" time as much. And, he really seems to be taking a second look at a career in astronomy. Thank you Wal-Mart for changing our lives.

I just wanted a simple scope to get me into the hobby. This Celestron was good value and easy to setup and use. You will need a Barlow 2x lens to see more distant objects but you will need to buy separately. This is a decent basic scope but I would recommend getting a larger objective lens (=>100mm) scope to get more light. On the positive note, the 70AZ is light, easy to setup, and use. It comes with a red dot finder which works well in aligning the scope to what you want to see. The tripod is well made and works well. Overall a good product for getting into the hobby without breaking the bank.
Amazing. With this I saw Jupiter and its moons, Saturn, the moon in great detail, the Andromeda Galaxy, an awesome star cluster, and, with a solar filter (not included), the Sun. It's also great for viewing terrestrial images in disturbingly sharp detail. Couldn't be happier with this purchase. Definitely a great and affordable choice to get into the hobby, and a wonderful gift for kids passionate about the stars.
This is a great beginner telescope. Easy for an adult to assemble. We’ve had fun viewing the stars and especially the planets recently. It would be good to have a case or bag included to transport to another locationn I’ve looked for a bag, case to transport it but haven’t found one.
This is so easy to assemble and use. Instructions are super easy and detailed with pictures. Comes with everything needed to assemble and use straight after putting it together. Bought this as a Christmas gift for my daughter and she loves it. She's 11 and has no issues using it. I put it together in about 6 minutes, by myself. Really stable and strong. It's not flimsy. Only thing worried me was when moving the telescope up and down with the handle it made a popping sound like bubble wrap, but it's the grease getting worked into the gears that allow the telescope to move. Came packaged very good and protected from shipping damage. Definitely recommend and I am extremely satisfied with product quality and price. Was pleasantly surprised with how large it extended on it's legs. Product is as described and comes with everything it shows. Love the cellphone bracket to attach the phone to take pictures with the remote. Celestron AstroMaster 70AZ LT Refractor Telescope Kit with Smartphone Adapter and Bluetooth Remote is a really quality product and a great buy for personal use or a gift for all ages.
Love the telescope. Got to see the moon in crazy detail! Take the time to line up the finders scope red dot to the main telescope. That made locating objects super easy. We used our phone apps to help us locate objects and got to see Orion Nebula! It was stunning. The Smartphone adapter was fun. Easy to shoot the moon with it.We are actually going to buy another one of these for a holiday gift for our nephew.
My 6-year-old future astronaut has been captivated with space and especially the Moon since she was a baby, so we got her a real "grown up" telescope for her birthday. She loved it! I was worried that she wouldn't be able to look through the telescope herself, but we just attached the phone adapter and she could see the Moon perfectly on the phone screen, plus we got some great pics. We also looked at Venus, which happened to be next to the Moon and will be trying to find more planets and stars soon. I agree with the other reviewer who said to line up the mini scope with the red dot and use that to find things. My husband set that up during the day and then when we used the telescope at night it was very easy.
The telescope itself isn't too bad, but the eyepieces and mount are abysmal. Yeah, you could buy better eyepieces and mount but at that point you're better off just buying a telescope in the $300 range that comes with an equatorial mount and better eyepieces. As for what I could see... Jupiter was hardly visible with the highest magnification, Mars and Venus were basically just dots of light, I was able to see the M43 nebula but it is quite dim. Works reasonably well for viewing the moon in decent detail, though. Absolutely not an astrophotography telescope kit. I will most likely return this and buy a larger refractor or reflector for my personal needs. If it weren't for the frustrating mount, I would say this would be a decent telescope for a child, but you can ... MoreThe telescope itself isn't too bad, but the eyepieces and mount are abysmal. Very lightweight, though. I will include some photos of the moon I took with the included smartphone adapter (which is also terrible).
