Good scope for my first. Easy to set up and use. Low power eyepiece is pretty good, the 10mm is a budget eyepiece. Spend another couple of hundred on a couple of decent eyepieces and you'll have a great amateur scope. Would have given five stars if both eyepieces were of decent quality, not just the reasonable quality low power one.

Great scope. Bought for the OTA, which is now mounted on a sturdier alt-az system. Dont care much for starsense but I assume it works well.

Internet very important!!

Make sure you have good internet outside. Where I live there is rubbish internet, so the app doesn't work. Anyone need a cheap as new telescope???

Is it the scope or is it me....

Not had much luck locating anything featured on the star sense explorer app. Aligned ok but poor imagery and non specific. Might be the wrong lens selected for magnification but now we have clouded up the past week so opportunity for swapping lens not available. Will persevere though ..fingers crossed.

Needs pretty clear skies but a great help for the novice.

I sympathise with the other reviewer. I had similar difficulties on the initial excursions. To plate solve effectively the app does need more than a few stars, but on a reasonably clear night, once aligned, its pretty good for this novice to find basic objects in the night sky. The red dot finder is a pain for an older neck but, when aligned correctly to the scope, it helps initially to check the scope is pointing where you think it should be. At present this scope is on par with binoculars for what I'm able to see, given the light polluted sky and bad weather recently. I shall persevere. Already bought a 2" diagonal and more eyepieces. I'm using an old Samsung J5 phone and the App works well. I expect a more powerful modern phone would be quicker. The tripod is stable enough on a still night.

Worth it for the buzz, and the inspiration.

I bought this as a Birthday present for my 11 yr old Daughter who wears a NASA hoodie at home. After a rather poorly considered ‘Toyworld’ purchase at 200 bucks. I felt so bad about her experience with that, that I probably went overboard. Naturally, pointed it at the moon first, the revelation was instant, and any qualms about the money spent where blown away over the next 30 minutes. The questions came thick and fast - what was the flat spot on the moon? How do we mount a camera? (oh boy). Seeing the moons of Jupiter, and just about making the bands out, even in dusk light with the lower power magnifaction lens… it was priceless, honestly. The Telescope itself is great - starsense works, although you do need to align it during the day, and then ideally leave the ... MoreI bought this as a Birthday present for my 11 yr old Daughter who wears a NASA hoodie at home. The Starsense app compliment it well though, with the suggested lists of targets being a great starting point for us as amateurs. The Telescope is light, which does mean that contact will make it wiggle a bit, but for now I’d rather have the portability. The lightness doesn’t translate to poor build quality though - the whole thing feels pretty well put together, although I definitely will be looking for specialised eyepieces in the not to distant future - the FOV of the higher power 10mm lens makes it a little awkward to use.Overall, absolutely a satisfying purchase for me. We’re already planning camping trips for dark skys. Thanks Jacob’s!
