Coleman Instant Up Darkroom Tent

It did not disappoint! Such a breeze to set up- we had the outside and inside of the tent set up within 30 mins. Even easier to pull down and it fits back in the bag easily. Darkroom was great with the younger children- they even managed to sleep in a little. The hinged door can be a little annoying with the small amount of velcro to attach to but it works.

Couldn't handle wind.

Bought tent a week ago for the long weekend. Unfortunately we were very disappointed in how easily it would buckle if any wind arosed. All supports were locked and in correct position. With kids and a cot we had to pack up and leave. The size was great and the darkness seemed to be good as well. We never actually managed to use it for the night with the risk of having it fall on top of us was too likely. Looked like a great tent otherwise. Our local BCF was great and returned. Great customer service.

Do not buy.

Zips on the front fly weren’t attached to both sides meaning the tent leaked as the sides weren’t able to be closed. We also watched an instructional clip online and the people showcasing the tent had a faulty product and had to pull apart and glue it back together before constructing. I know why these tents were on sale! Disappointed we didn’t get the cost of the shipping refunded as well, only the product. Purchased 30/12/2022 returned 29/91/2023.

Leaks but great tent
7 August 2020

This is an easy tent to put up, one person can do it. There is plenty of room inside and you can easily stand in it. You need to crouch to get in and out of the doors but that's not a problem. The blackout technology is great. I sleep well in the tent. If it rains for more than a day then you are going to have issues with water coming up through the floor. Put the awning down when it rains otherwise it will hold water. I use a pole in the middle of the awning and that does the trick. Never had it leak in through the main part of the roof. It packs up as easy as it sets up and once you know how to fold it up properly then it really doesn't take up a lot of space for a big tent. I just wished the floor was waterproof since Coleman went through so much effort to ensure that the roof didn't leak. I don't pitch the tent in places where water can build up underneath but it makes no difference really. That floor just lets it all in. There are a couple of handy pouches inside. It holds the heat well in winter if you happen to have a small heater. It is also cool enough in summer with everything open. Love that you can have the windows zipped half way up or even just use guy ropes and pegs to peg the windows open on the outside. A gem of tent. I expect more of a high end tent and the leaky floor hurts.

Performed as expected
21 December 2022

I haven't used it in the rain yet but it was blowing up to 25 knots wind and it was no drama, so I'm not sure what other people are experiencing when they complain about performance in windy conditions.I used a spreader bar between the front awning uprights and attached an 2x3 awning side wall for extra cover and privacy. I also added LED strip lights to the outside frame of the tent during setup which allowed good lighting throughout the tent.Only let downs that I found was the lack of storage and the room divider may as well go in the bin.Another quick tip I found is if you roll the tent up it fits back in the back without having to expand the bag.

Poor quality
10 December 2022

Had this tent a couple weeks, it sets up fine, nice and dark inside however any wind harder than a soft fart it collapses. The wind has ripped two holes so far around the front poles and the back poles are nearly breaking through too. Also the black lining is coming off especially around the top. As a homeless person I will need to live in this while I am stuck in Western Australia, I am so upset with the poor quality I am close to ending it all, do not waste your money 🙁

Prey for light winds
23 January 2023

This is a fine tent for still or light wind conditions - anything above about 30kph and the problems start. From attempting to put it up in those sort of winds, to its inability to handle consistent 30-40kph (with gusts in the 50s) using this tent has been extremely stressful. Guy- ropes inadequate, a fly that is largely dependent on velcro straps, and appears to be a basically flawed design. Managing to cope at the moment with the use of proper guy ropes and spreader bars propping up the troublesome corners that kept collapsing. One week to go until we can get a replacement delivered.

Quick and easy follow instructions.
18 February 2023

Easy to set up. One of the arms/legs twisted when we repacked it making it harder to put up the second time until we found it was at 180 degrees. Next time we will make sure the tent is fully up before putting the tent pegs in (previous tents did base and pegs first). It was quite windy during the day causing one side to bow in.

Terrible design
27 January 2023

I'd just bought this tent and went to set up in my backyard. Two hours later I couldn't get it stabilised enough not to collapse in on itself. Up instant upright poles as part of the main frame are not supported enough. Particularly the front entry area. You are relying on the fly to pull out far and taunt enough to support the poles. Yet they still sag inwards with the full fly extended and pegged. Again, the front entry area saggs in on itself and the poles won't pull out to their supposed fullest capacity. When you stand inside the tent, all poles are tended to fall inwards. This is a terribly designed tent. I've bought Coleman tents for years and have trusted them. However this particular tent is a complete let down. Even with improvisation, I could not pitch ... MoreI'd just bought this tent and went to set up in my backyard. Even with improvisation, I could not pitch this tent to stand upright and not sage inward. The front room entry area need more structural support. Relying on the tent fly which only velcros in three places on each pole does nothing to pull out the poles outward to its fullest capacity. Taking it back for a full refund.

Waste of money
29 December 2022

We bought this tent as we love the Dark Room Technology. Setting up took ages, and one of the poles was manufactured wrong and we had to unscrew it and put it on correctly. The front but where the door is droops. The door is a nightmare to undo and zip up. The space inside was great and the dark room also. Packing up was a joke. We are seasoned campers and I recommend not buying this tent. Should've bought a slab of jack d instead.
