The CoolCabana 5 reimagines what a beach shade can be. No need to worry about your umbrella flying down the beach, not having enough shade, or overheating in an enclosed shelter. UPF 50+ protection 64ft² of shade (Large) Folds down to 3'2" (Medium) and 3'5" (Large) Sand pockets provide 35lbs to keep you on the beach How does this compare to a large beach umbrella? A large CoolCabana provides more than double the shade. A large beach umbrella is typically 6ft in diameter, which provides 28ft 2 of shade, less than half of the 64ft 2 of shade from a large CoolCabana.

Best beach shade I've every used (and I've used a LOT)

This year we finally tried a large CoolCabana. It was AMAZING. VERY stable in wind that knocked down all the stretchy canopies around us as well as blowing over a few umbrellas. The CoolCabana flapped and shook in the wind but stayed in place. The large version is an 8ft square shaped umbrella with cloth legs that you fill with sand and that keeps them in place. It works great and it provides 64 sq ft of shade! That’s 66% more shade than a commercial umbrella at about 40 sq ft. Almost 2 umbrellas worth of shade. The CoolCabana packs smaller and lighter than a commercial umbrella and takes only a minute longer to set up or take down. My brother-in-law liked it so much he ordered one from the beach so he’d have it when he got home.My crew is very sun sensitive, and we have always relied on umbrellas (or other) for beach shade. We’ve been going to the beach for 60+ years. My father was devoted to commercial grade canvas umbrellas. The commercial grade canvas umbrella is a 7.5 ft octagon (almost 40 sq ft of shade). These umbrellas are very good even in gusty heavy winds. To accommodate our crew we need to set up 4 or 5 in a row.We have tried other umbrellas (large Patio tilting (very heavy), lighter weight retail style (very weak), etc.) and none compare to the commercial item.We have tried the stretchy canopy thing but gave up after a two seasons because it wasn't good in the wind (these don’t work well in wind and it’s always windy on the beach. I spent half my time adjusting and resetting it whenever the wind came up or changed direction)We have tried the framed 10 ft party tent. We gave up on this after one season because of the weight and setup (These are very heavy, difficult for one person to set up and take down, not great in heavier wind)We have tried fiberglass dome tent style things for little kids (These work okay but they are small and have sides and usually a bottom that detract from the beach experience). Only babies and toddlers used it.We did NOT try, but sat next to, a few of the free flying arched shades. These are TERRIBLE! They make a constant flapping noise, and they fail whenever the wind changes direction. They also flap in the users faces whenever the wind dies down a bit. And if the wind is from land and not sea then the flapping part faces the ocean and constantly obstructs your view as well as hits you in the face. You need to always be facing out from the front of the arch, so if the wind is not directly from the sea, then you are pointed in an odd direction.Do yourself a favor and get a CoolCabana. I promise you will not be sorry.

Easy, quick, and FABULOUS!

We bought two of these for our family beach trip and party of 7, using one or both of the cabanas depending on the circumstances. These were SO incredibly easy and fast to set up that I couldn't imagine using anything else! There were no awkward stakes or annoying mechanisms to deal with. Just anchor, expand, add sand to the pockets, and good to go! Our kids loved helping add sand to the pockets, too, so each cabana only took us maybe a couple of minutes to set up. The color options are also very stylish. It definitely helped to have two for our large group, especially to help provide more shade depending on the angle of the sun. The one thing that would have been even better for us would have been an optional roll-down panel on at least one side to add more shade ... MoreWe bought two of these for our family beach trip and party of 7, using one or both of the cabanas depending on the circumstances. I’ve tried the Neso tent, Tommy Bahama umbrella, and a few other ‘gimmicky’ tents I saw online but I just got back from a week of using our new Cool Cabana - I was really impressed with it and its our new go to beach tent. We’ve taken our Neso and Tommy Bahama umbrellas and donated them to the local Goodwill. It was very easy to set up / take down but more importantly it withstood the wind at the beach. A few days we had gusts near 30 mph and I wasn’t worried about it blowing away. The hardest part was getting it to fit back into the bag but I got the hang of it after a few days - I found it best to take the fabric ‘arms’ that come down at each corner and tie them around the folded up umbrella. It made it much easier to fit back into the bag. It took me a long time, but I finally got one
9 June 2024

I go to the beach a lot, and often off-season when there's a lot of wind. I have a commercial beach umbrella, a Shibumi, and a Neso Grande. On this last trip when there was a lot of wind, we were using our Shibumi as usual, but finally got tired of the jet-engine level of sound. I had noticed Cool Cabanas on the beach before and how they all seemed to do fine in strong winds. On the last trip to the beach, we were near a family who set one up and was amazed how quickly it went. I went over to talk to them and they let me know how pleased they were with their Cabana. I was determined to try one this trip and found one for sale a couple islands over and had one that evening to try the next day.I also went to the hardware store, though, and bought a commercial ice ... MoreI go to the beach a lot, and often off-season when there's a lot of wind. I was determined to try one this trip and found one for sale a couple islands over and had one that evening to try the next day.I also went to the hardware store, though, and bought a commercial ice scoop - one of those large aluminum shovely things, since the only issue I saw was people taking a while to fill up the sand pockets. The scoop was amazing for this task - two scoops more than filled each pocket and took about 5 seconds. Within a couple of days, we were setting up and taking down the Cool Cabana like pros in less than 5 minutes. When it is extra windy, you can scoop out a couple inches of sand below where the pockets will sit, and drive the stake in a little more, to get the Beach Cabana lower and even more resilient to strong wind, although this isn't really necessary.

My Cabana
9 August 2024

My Cabana was a great item to have. Its room enough for 4 people (only 2 were in it) with room all your gear. The setup and strike (breakdown) were easy. It stood up to the slight wind, however, the sand pockets were set up with the wind direction to stabilize it until the cabana was fully upright. The color is vibrant. The sand pockets are very large, and the double corner pockets are convenient and large for misc items. The carrying case is of good structure, whereas, the strap carry for shoulder or back is convenient. The support ground poles you insert them into one another, and push into the sand up to the sand level mark. I don't recall reading that part of the instructions. I like the advertising protocol of the name brand on each right corner of the cabana's top edge.

OBX Shade
2 July 2024

We purchased a cool cabanas 3 years ago. We spend 2 weeks every year on the OBX where shade is a requirement. We had an LL Bean beach shelter that we have had for years, setting that up was a series of steps, threading poles through material and tying everything down. It was well made but didn't provide the square footage I needed for my family. The cabana can be set up in less than 5 minutes, it handles the breezes at the beach and actually was handling the gusts with out difficulty. There are pockets in every corner to hold everything you want out of the sand. The best thing is, it looks great, cleans easily, it's compact and has a shoulder strap to make it easy to carry. We liked our first one so much we bought a second.

Phenomenal beach shelter
27 May 2024

We have the larger shelter. It's very easy (although not entirely intuitive) to put up and take down, and comes with carry bags for the center poles and the canopy, so they stay separated. We considered buying a shibumi shade until we heard them at the beach - way too loud for us.We've used our CoolCabana twice this weekend alone. It's large enough to keep all of our beach stuff and ourselves shaded and cool. We're going to see if the shelter will work on grass if we use rice or sand bags to weigh it down; if that works, we'll bring it along when we visit the grandkids. We ended up buying one for my husband's sister, and my brother bought one as well. These are phenomenal!

Poor service and experience
10 September 2024

There was something unclear when I ordered. I ordered one on sale for Labor Day. When I was billed I believed it to be incorrect. I inquired and found that the sale price that was quoted, was for a smaller unit. I asked the instructions on how to return as I wanted to buy a more cost effective one. I was told there was a $64 fee to return an unopened item. I advised that I saw other colors were cheaper and just want to return for the cheaper other color one as color doesn’t matter to me. They would not come off the $64 fee. I asked what if the item were damaged or I was unhappy? They still said there would be that return fee. I then asked if I kept this unit could they prove match the one one sale which was only $10 cheaper. They said “no, we don’t price match”. ... MoreThere was something unclear when I ordered. They force you to keep the product with a ridiculously high return fee. And, it’s not the $10 difference either, just was looking for some understanding and customer service. Well, you won’t find any of that at Coolcabana. Would never use this organization again based on this experience.

So simple and so cozy!
3 July 2024

This thing is truly impressive. It's really simple to set up, really stable, and worth the money! It makes you feel like you're in a cozy tent even though it's really just a super sturdy and stable umbrella. Two minor issues I saw: 1) It was not immediately apparent how the poles all stayed together or how you were supposed to use the spike pole. I had no idea instructions were actually sewn onto the inside of the carry bag until after I figured it out, and I only figured it out after watching a YouTuber demonstrate the setup. The company's official video demonstration setup is not helpful because it doesn't show you that you're supposed to drive the spike pole into the sand FIRST, then use a second pole to slide over the spike pole and use it as a hammer to drive ... MoreThis thing is truly impressive. The company's official video demonstration setup is not helpful because it doesn't show you that you're supposed to drive the spike pole into the sand FIRST, then use a second pole to slide over the spike pole and use it as a hammer to drive the spike deeper. The fact that it came with two regular poles and a spike pole and none of them clipped securely into each other left me scratching my head. I reached out to customer service and they were completely unhelpful, but by the time they replied, I had found that one helpful YouTube video. Some kind of indication written on the poles themselves, like a sticker with an IKEA-style figure demonstrating the hammering action would've been really helpful. 2) Unless the beach is more or less totally flat, 1-2 corners will not touch the ground. I had two dangling (weighed down with sand) because the small beach I was on had a slope that was steeper than most large beaches. I imagine on windy days, this might cause some instability, but it didn't cause any issues for me because I was on a quiet little beach in a bay area. I wonder if there is a way to make the sand pouches in each corner adjustable by a few inches to accommodate slopes?
